Book excerpt: You may be asking yourself what the Cloud represents. Well, the Cloud is God's Presence. A manifestation of His glory. When God descended on Sinai the place was filled with a cloud. When Jesus was transfigured a cloud appeared above Him, and in it the Voice Of the Father thundered. The cloud is also the place to discover yourself as you fellowship with your Creator. In the Cloud you can dance, sing, paint, play, or just be still. Whether or not you have experienced a personal encounter of the Lord's presence, this book is for you. Although "Dancing In The Cloud" relates to dance, it deals with much more; it invites you to allow yourself to commune with God through movement and stillness, to practice being in His presence in your daily life, and to learn how to let yourself be dazzled by Jesus as you learn to live like Him. It also teaches your soul the art of joyful dancing before Him. This book tells of a powerful encounter from a person who was raised in religion and lived a tormented life, and was set free through a live and vibrant relationship with Jesus. Jesus is still in the business of setting the captives free. The book also narrates unique stories of sharing the testimony of Jesus to a dark world and will inspire you to be bold sharing your faith wherever you go. Draw from the deep wells of bridal union that Chris has birthed in intimacy with the Lord. Draw from what he has gleaned into whilst waiting on Jesus and let your creative side be ignited. Creativity is of great importance in this book because of its relation to the Creator of heaven and earth as stated in the Bible (Genesis 1:1). Furthermore, this book expounds on the fact that you are creative and that you can create with God. And David danced before the LORD with all his might. 2 Samuel 6:14About the Author: Chris enjoys dancing in the cloud of God's presence, experiencing His love and bringing to the church innovation and creativity through the creative arts of artistic movement, whether it be freestyle or choreographed. He loves to share his unique gift to the world and witness to the lost with the love of Christ.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the depths of sorrow following the sudden death of her closest female mentor, Brenda Hillman asks anguished questions in this book of poems about separation, spiritual transcendence, and the difference between life and death. Both personal and philosophical, her work can be read as a spirit-guide for those mourning the loss of a loved one and as a series of fundamental ponderings on the inevitability of death and separation. At first refusing to let go, desperate to feel the presence of her friend, the poet seeks solace in a belief in the spirit world. But life, not death, becomes the issue when she begins to see physical existence as "an interruption" that preoccupies us with shapes and borders. "Shape makes life too small," she realizes. Comfort at last comes in the idea of "reverse seeing": that even if she cannot see forward into the spirit world, her friend can see "backward into this world" and be with her. Death Tractates is the companion volume to a philosophical poetic work entitles Bright Existence, which Hillman was in the midst of writing when her friend died. Published by Wesleyan University Press in 1993, it shares many of the same Gnostic themes and sources.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the global vicissitudes of migration unfold so does ethnic difference in the classroom, and this book offers a timely examination of teaching about culturally different dances. At a time when the world of dance is, on the one hand, seemingly becoming more like fusion cookery there is another faction promoting isolation and preservation of tradition. How, if at all, may these two worlds co-exist in dance education? Understanding teaching about culturally different dances from postmodern, postcolonial, pluralist and critical perspectives creates an urgent demand to develop relevant pedagogy in dance education. What is required to support dance educators into the next phase of dance education, so as to avoid teaching from within a Eurocentric, creative dance model alone? An ethnographic investigation with teachers in New Zealand lays a foundation for the examination of issues, challenges and opportunities associated with teaching about culturally different dances. Concerns and issues surrounding notions of tradition, innovation, appropriation, interculturalism, social justice and critical pedagogy emerge. Engaging with both practice and theory is a priority in this book, and a nexus model, in which the theoretical fields of critical cultural theory, semiotics, ethnography and anthropology can be activated as teachers teach, is proposed as informing approaches to teaching about culturally different dances. Even though some practical suggestions for teaching are presented, the main concern is to motivate further thinking and research into teaching about dancing with cultural difference.
