Book excerpt: When humanity first settled Molorthia Six, they thought it was uninhabited. Apparently the treelike Greens were holding still and hiding their fangs. These days, humans live in the Molorthian desert, far from the bloodthirsty forests. Life is going rather miserably for widowed Sheriff Dalton Kane, so it's no real surprise when unexplained forest fires send refugee Greens fleeing toward town. When a violent Green attack leaves several citizens dead, Dalton and his new deputy, an ex-conman named Chumley Fanshaw, make the treacherous journey north to see if they can stop the fires that keep sending Greens in their direction. They soon find themselves fighting not only for their lives, but for the lives of every human on Molorthia Six. Will Dalton's oldest enemy become his greatest ally?

Book excerpt: 'NDiaye is a hypnotic storyteller with an unflinching understanding of the rock-bottom reality of most people's life.' New York Times ' One of France's most exciting prose stylists.' The Guardian. Obsessed by her encounters with the mysterious green women, and haunted by the Garonne River, a nameless narrator seeks them out in La Roele, Paris, Marseille, and Ouagadougou. Each encounter reveals different aspects of the women; real or imagined, dead or alive, seductive or suicidal, driving the narrator deeper into her obsession, in this unsettling exploration of identity, memory and paranoia. Self Portrait in Green is the multi-prize winning, Marie NDiaye's brilliant subversion of the memoir. Written in diary entries, with lyrical prose and dreamlike imagery, we start with and return to the river, which mirrors the narrative by posing more questions than it answers.

Book Mechanisms of Inorganic and Organometallic Reactions

Download or read book Mechanisms of Inorganic and Organometallic Reactions written by M.V. Twigg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series provides a continuing critical review of the literature concerned with mechanistic aspects of inorganic and organometallic reactions in solu tion, with coverage over the whole area being complete in each volume. The format of this second volume is very similar to that of the first, with material arranged according to reaction type and compound type along generally accepted lines. Papers discussed are selected on the basis of relevance to the elucidation of reaction mechanisms but may also include results of a nonkinetic nature, such as stereochemical studies and product ratios, when useful mechanistic information can be deduced. In this volume extra space has been given to areas concerned with electron transfer processes and substitution reactions of inert complexes, and to improve convenience for the reader the text has been further divided to form three additional chapters. Electron transfer processes are discussed in three chapters: "General and Theoretical," "Reactions between Two Complexes," and "Metal-Ligand Redox Reactions," while six chapters are concerned with substitution and related reactions. Here reactions of inert chromium and cobalt complexes are discussed in separate chapters. The period of literature coverage is January 1981 through June 1982 inclusive and in a few instances, where delays in delivery of journals have been encountered, the issues not covered will be included in the next volume.

Book Inorganic Reactions and Methods The Formation of Bonds to Elements of Group IVB C Si Ge Sn Pb Part 4

Download or read book Inorganic Reactions and Methods The Formation of Bonds to Elements of Group IVB C Si Ge Sn Pb Part 4 written by A. P. Hagen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-09-17 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time the discipline of modern inorganic chemistry has been systematized according to a plan constructed by a council of editorial advisors and consultants, among them three Nobel laureates (E.O. Fischer, H. Taube and G. Wilkinson). Rather than producing a collection of unrelated review articles, the series creates a framework which reflects the creative potential of this scientific discipline. Thus, it stimulates future development by identifying areas which are fruitful for further research. The work is indexed in a unique way by a structured system which maximizes its usefulness to the reader. It augments the organization of the work by providing additional routes of access for specific compounds, reactions and other topics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: McGowan traces the evolution of the Catholic community from an isolated religious and Irish ethnic subculture in the late nineteenth century into an integrated segment of English Canadian society by the early twentieth century. English-speaking Catholics moved into all neighbourhoods of the city and socialized with and married non-Catholics. They even embraced their own brand of imperialism: by 1914 thousands of them had enlisted to fight for God and the British Empire. McGowan's detailed and lively portrait will be of great interest to students and scholars of religious history, Irish studies, ethnic history, and Canadian history.
