One of its major advantages is that although the system is very easy to learn and play, it leads to exciting middlegame positions where White often launches a violent attack against Black's king. The Colle is a particular favourite amongst club players, but is also seen at grandmaster level; perhaps its most well-known exponents are the former World Championship Candidate Artur Yusupov and the twice World Junior Champion Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. This book is a further addition to Everyman's best-selling Starting Out series, which has been acclaimed for its original approach to tackling chess openings. International Master Richard Palliser examines the fundamentals of the Colle, elaborating on the crucial early moves and ideas for both sides in a way that is often neglected in other texts. The reader is helped throughout with a plethora of notes, tips and warnings highlighting the vital characteristics of the Colle and of opening play in general. Starting Out: The Colle is a perfect guide for improving players and those new to this opening. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the success of his award-winning book ‘Keep it Simple 1.e4’ International Master Christof Sielecki is back. His new repertoire based on 1.d4 has a similar profile: variations that are straightforward and easy to remember, and require little or no maintenance. Sielecki has created a reliable set of opening lines for chess players of almost all levels. The major objective is to dominate Black from the opening, by simple means. You don’t need to sacrifice anything or memorize long tactical lines. His main concept is for White to play 1.d4, 2.Nf3, 3.g3, 4.Bg2, 5.0-0 and in most cases 6.c4. Sielecki developed this repertoire while working with students who were looking for something that was easy to understand and easy to learn. This new 1.d4 repertoire may be even easier to master than his 1.e4 recommendations, because it is such a coherent system. Sielecki always clearly explains the plans and counterplans and keeps you focussed on what the position requires. Ambitious players rated 1500 or higher will get great value out of studying this extremely accessible book.

Book The Tactical Grob

    Book Details:
  • Author : Claude Bloodgood
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2007-12
  • ISBN : 9784871878661
  • Pages : 78 pages

Download or read book The Tactical Grob written by Claude Bloodgood and published by . This book was released on 2007-12 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By 1996 Claude Bloodgood was rated 2702 and was the second highest rated chess player in the United States, behind only Gata Kamsky, who was the US Champion and was playing a match against Anatoly Karpov for the World Chess Championship. Many people including myself accused Bloodgood of manipulating the rating system. For example, it was widely believed that when a new chess player would enter the prison system, Bloodgood and the other players would lose games to this new player giving him a high rating. Once the high rating was established, then the new player would start losing, raising everybody else's rating. This sort of crude manipulation would not have worked in Bloodgood's case because of the large number of players in the Virginia prison system. Others have tried this and have been caught.Bloodgood did not manipulate the rating system. His games were legitimate. His rating rose to astronomical levels because of a flaw in the system. When the rating system was started in 1950, every player who got an even score of 6-6 in the 1950 US Open was assigned a rating of 2000.That was the starting point. Players rated over 2100 were classified as experts, over 2300 were masters, over 2500 were Senior Masters and over 2700 were grandmasters.Within about two years, it was noticed that everybody's rating was dropping. The only two players over 2700, Reshevsky and Fine, had lost those ratings.
