Book Classification of DMIC Reports and Memoranda by Major Subject

Download or read book Classification of DMIC Reports and Memoranda by Major Subject written by and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To aid in quick identification and easy location of specific technical data and information in the various reports and memoranda which have been prepared and distributed by the Defense Metals Information Center, as well as by DMIC's forerunner, the Titanium Metallurgical Laboratory, a classification by major subject matter was prepared. The classification covers reports through DMIC Report 193 and memoranda through DMIC Memorandum 183. (Author).

Book Electron beam Welding of Tungsten

Download or read book Electron beam Welding of Tungsten written by R. E. Monroe and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reported progress on the electron-beam welding of commercially pure W indicates that sound crack-free welds can be made if the weld is not restrained during welding. Although the data are not all consistent, welds which are smooth and have minimum fusion and heat-affected zone width should be the strongest and most ductile. Tensile strengths are equivalent to the base metal near the recrystallization temperature but are appreciably lower at room temperature. The ductile-to-brittle transition temperatures for electron-beam-welded tungsten are above that of the base metal. The impact resistance of electron-beam-welded tungsten is very low. Electron-beam welding of tungsten parts should be thoroughly evaluated on production prototypes before specifying its use. (Author).

Book The Emittance of Stainless Steels

Download or read book The Emittance of Stainless Steels written by W. D. Wood and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compilation is presented of original test data in the form of graphs on emittance, reflectance, and absorptance of stainless steels. The data were extracted from the literature published from 1940 to 1959 inclusive, and some 1960 literature. The data are separated according to material and to the type of measurement, whether spectral or total. The referenceinformation sheets accompanying each graph gives the names of the investigators and the reference from which the data were obtained. Notations of composition, surface condition of the test samples, and methods and conditions of measurement are given when available.

Book Review of Recent Developments in the Technology of High strength Stainless Steels

Download or read book Review of Recent Developments in the Technology of High strength Stainless Steels written by D. A. Roberts and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research and development in the field of high-strength stainless steels appears to be directed along two principal paths: (1) the development of alloys with improved strength properties and (2) the accumulation of information on the properties and physical metallurgy of existing alloys so that they may be used more effectively. By and large, the development of new alloys is being carried out by the stainless-steel producers, while the accumulation of property data for the most part is being undertaken on Government contracts. Book Glass Fiber for Solid propellant Rocket motor Cases

Download or read book Glass Fiber for Solid propellant Rocket motor Cases written by R. J. Runck and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Present rocket motor cases are being made with Type E commercial glass fibers because of the relative ease of manufacture, high resistance to weathering, strength and low cost. Processing improvements are considered the best immediate means to physical improvements. Some improvement in the modulus of elasticity of Type E glass is possible by modified and improved manufacturing processes, but this may be accompanied by a loss in strength. Significant improvement in the modulus will create new problems in the glass bonding with plastics. The most effective additive for improving the glass modulus is BeO. Continuous filament glass fiber of this type is available, but expensive and difficult to manufacture. While increased modulus of elasticity is needed in fiber glass, only a fraction of this increase can be realized in the bulk modulus of the structures made from the fibers.

Book Compilation of Tensile Properties of High strength Alloys

Download or read book Compilation of Tensile Properties of High strength Alloys written by J. E. Campbell and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tensile properties that may be obtained in highstrength alloys for use from -423 to 4000 F are presented. Representative properties are given for high-strength alloys of the common base metals having melting points from that of Mg to that of W. The primary purpose is to illustrate the upper limits of the yield strength to density ratios for these alloys within the range of possible service temperatures. The temperature and time effects are combined in the LarsonMiller parameter for 0.2% offset yield strength or 0.2% plastic creep strain for limited creep data. The time for 0.2% offset yield strength determination is assumed as 0.01 hr. This permits use of yield-strength data from tensile tests and 0.2% plastic-creep-strain data from creep tests in the same charts. The LarsonMiller parameter may not be strictly applicable for certain alloys. In some instances, the data are for current production alloys with standard heat treatments. (Author).
