Book Human Activity Social Practices and Lifelong Education

Download or read book Human Activity Social Practices and Lifelong Education written by Marc Durand and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-14 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a scientific and practical trend in lifelong education, which focuses on "human activity". This trend is particularly apparent in French speaking countries where a seminal tradition of ergonomics, born in the middle of the 20th century, produced studies about work and workers’ activity in various contexts. Results demonstrate that working activity, firstly, is always complex, creative and enigmatic despite the efforts done by the designers to create prescribing working environments and by managers to control production procedures, and secondly, cannot be understood without specific field studies about real work. This approach influenced adult educational researchers and trainers to develop programs in order to help trainers to better know human activity and its transformations in various social practices (and not only in working context). It also helps them to design learning environments accompanying human activity transformations at various time scales. The chapters in this volume present a range of original studies on human activity in various social practices, such as tourism, theatre prop-makers in opera, manual job environments, management in a small company, high level athletes illegal practices, school teaching and finally during teachers retirement ceremonies. These studies of the relationships between social practices and human activity and its transformations, give empirical and conceptual bases for designing programs aimed at emphasizing and accompanying specific individual and collective learning, and human development in a lifelong perspective. This book was published as a special issue of International Journal of Lifelong Education.

Book Integrating Advanced Technology into Technology Education

Download or read book Integrating Advanced Technology into Technology Education written by Michael Hacker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technology is a dynamic field in which new developments take place continuously. Education traditionally lacks behind the latest developments in this subject area. Therefore it is necessary to consider updating education regularly. The NATO Advanced Research Workshop "Integrating Advanced Technology into Technology Education" discussed necessary changes in technology education caused by new developments in technology. It was held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, October 9-12, 1990. Our impression is that there was a fruitful interaction between educationalists, policy makers, and industrialists. These groups all have their own way of approaching technology education and the conference gave them an opportunity for sharing ideas that come from these various approaches. The participants felt that the issue of integrating advanced technology into technology education was quite relevant. There was a high degree of commitment in presentations and discussions. This led to the formulation of a number of recommendations to people in NATO countries who are involved in technology education. We as organizers appreciate the contributions of many people to this conference: NATO for financing it; Dr. Thomas Liao in particular for stimulating both NATO and us to realize it; the presenters for setting the scene for discussions; all participants for sharing ideas and perspectives; and finally Springer-Verlag for publishing the proceedings. April 1991 Michael Hacker Anthony Gordon Marc de Vries Introduction From the main theme of the conference --Integrating Advanced Technology into Technology Education --we distilled six questions: 1.

Book Foundations of Bilingual Memory

Download or read book Foundations of Bilingual Memory written by Roberto R. Heredia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundations of Bilingual Memory provides a valuable update to the field of bilingual memory and offers a new psychological perspective on how the bilingual mind encodes, stores, and retrieves information. This volume emphasizes theoretical issues, such as classic memory approaches, Compound-Coordinate Bilingualism, Bilingual Dual Coding Theory, and Working Memory, about which relatively little has been written in the bilingual domain. Also covered are: • The neuropsychology of bilingual memory • Applied issues (such as false memories and bilingualism, emotion and memory) • Empirical findings in support of the uniqueness of the different memory systems of the bilingual individual • Connectionist models of bilingualism The volume represents the first book of its kind, in stressing a memory perspective with regards to bilingual speakers. It can serve as an advanced text for both undergraduate and graduate level students and it will be of great interest to the growing number of bilingual teachers and university classes interested in understanding the bilingual mind, as well as in preparing teachers to work with the bilingual individual.
