Book Modern Techniques in Cytopathology

Download or read book Modern Techniques in Cytopathology written by M.M. Bui and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2020-01-13 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the era of precision medicine, physicians are increasingly in need of more definitive diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive information derived from small biopsy specimens such as cytology samples in order to guide effective patient care. Cytopathology is well poised to meet this challenge. Whilst the traditional cytomorphologic component of cytology practice is still valid, enormous advances have been made in the field of cytopathology thanks to transformative technology and innovative individuals that have augmented the cytologists' ability to meet the demands of modern medicine. The purpose of this book is to describe, illustrate, and review many of the most recent developments regarding modern techniques employed in cytopathology. This latest monograph is intended for all cytologists including cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, cytology lab assistants, trainees, research scientists, and anyone who is interested in the field of cytopathology. We have invited pioneering experts in their respective fields to author these chapters. This book is not only the culmination of their groundbreaking work and effort but also presents a critical review of the current literature. We have attempted to provide readers with an informative and comprehensive aid so that they may better appreciate how emerging technology has been applied to cytology. Each chapter in this book presents a stand-alone contemporary review of emerging topics in cytopathology. We hope that you will find this monograph thought-provoking and a valuable reference for your practice.

Download or read book Veterinary Cytology written by Leslie C. Sharkey and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 1024 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a state-of-the-art, evidence-based reference to all aspects of veterinary cytology. Truly multidisciplinary in its approach, chapters are written by experts in fields ranging from clinical pathology to internal medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, and dermatology, drawing the various specialties together to create a comprehensive picture of cytology's role in diagnosis and treatment of animal disease. Firmly grounded in the primary literature, the book focuses on companion animals, with special chapters for species with fewer publications. Chapters are logically organized by body system, with additional chapters on tumors of particular import and diagnostic decision making. The first two sections of Veterinary Cytology focus on cytology techniques, quality control, and special laboratory techniques. Subsequent sections are organ/tissue-based and reflect what is known about the canine, feline, and equine species. This is followed by chapters on non-traditional species, including exotic companion mammals, rabbits, cattle, camelids, non-human primates, reptiles and birds, amphibians, fish, invertebrates, and sheep and goats. The last section highlights some unique features of the applications of cytology in industry settings. Provides a gold-standard reference to data-driven information about cytologic analysis in companion animal species Brings together authors from a wide range of specialties to present a thorough survey of cytology's use in veterinary medicine Offers broader species coverage and greater depth than any cytology reference currently available Veterinary Cytology is an essential resource for clinical and anatomic pathologists and any specialist in areas using cytology, including veterinary oncologists, criticalists, surgeons, ophthalmologists, dermatologists, and internists.

The book also presents case studies of typical and rare presentations, and introduces readers to a new procedure for intra-operative cytology: the modified fields stain, which stains the slide within 2 minutes, allowing quick, accurate reporting. This book uses concise text and a consistent point-wise format that makes reading and reviewing easy. The radiological and pathological correlates of brain and spine tumors serve as a ready-reference resource for residents, surgical and neuropathologists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists and research scientists.

Book Atlas of Prostatic Cytology

  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642701108
  • Pages : 354 pages

Download or read book Atlas of Prostatic Cytology written by W. Leistenschneider and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diagnostic and exfoliative cytology has today achieved a status that few could have envisaged 20 years ago. While exfoliative cytology has long been employed in gynecological diagnosis, new and rewarding spheres have now developed in which cytological diagnosis plays an important role. Exfoliative cytology, for example, is widely employed as an aid in the continuous assessment of urinary tract tumors, and aspiration cytology in the diagnosis of thyroid dis eases. This has given rise to a growing demand for pathologists experienced in cytological diagnosis. However, clinicians with an interest in morphology were often the first to adopt these simple and safe methods, being naturally attracted by the chance to avoid conducting biopsy, which, in the last analysis, is nothing less than a surgical operation. In this Atlas of Prostatic Cytology Leistenschneider and Nagel expertly demonstrate what can be achieved when clinicians skilled in morphology take an interest in cytological methods. Not only do they have direct contact with the patient, but they also profit from immediately being in a position to assess the results of their diagnostic procedures by examining the specimen obtained. From the technical point of view aspiration biopsy of the prostate is by no means a simple procedure and the difficulties involved would seem to have been underestimated in the initial phase of enthusiastic acclaim. Consequently it has been not unusual for clinicians and pathologists to be disappointed by the high rate of unsatisfactory samples obtained by this method.

Book Molecular Applications in Cytology

Download or read book Molecular Applications in Cytology written by Fernando C. Schmitt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-24 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for practicing pathologists and cytopathologists, as well as for pathology trainees and cytotechnicians. It starts with a detailed description of the extremely important pre-analytical phase for molecular testing followed by a presentation of the key tests and their application in different organs, e.g. the lung or thyroid. Step-by-step instructions for the different assays, reporting and clinical integration of the test results are discussed. The authors help the reader to benefit from their experiences by providing a valuable tool for the implementation of these techniques in daily practice. Though the use of molecular techniques is well established in surgical biopsies, to date they are not widely used in connection with cytological material. However, in some fields like lung cancer or aspirates from the pancreas and biliary tract the only available material for diagnosis is the cytological preparation a fact that has created a need for the standardization of molecular techniques on cytology.
