Book Realism in Cyclic Cabinet Corrosion Testing of Coil Coated Steel for Building Applications

Download or read book Realism in Cyclic Cabinet Corrosion Testing of Coil Coated Steel for Building Applications written by JB. Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ASTM B-117, Method of Salt Spray (Fog) Testing, is one of the most widely used methods for accelerated materials testing. The test is often used both for quantitative and for relative (i.e. ranking) performance testing of uncoated and particularly coated materials. Although the test is well accepted, the use of a continuous spray of 5% NaCl solution does not reproduce natural weathering conditions. In addition, assessment criteria are generally based on subjective methods such as visual standards. For these reasons the use of the unmodified test has recently become subject to extensive criticisms. Specific data from a controlled test programme on pre-coated steel panels are reported here and provide a direct comparison between B-117 and a cyclic wet/dry spray test using artificial acid rain solution. Results show that the angle to the vertical at which the samples are set (the pitch) is a major factor in achieving realistic data. This has relevance in the testing of coil coated products for use in the roofing and siding of buildings. Also the wet/dry test de-emphasises less important factors (such as blistering) while retaining significant discrimination to edge and scratch disbondment (at shallow pitch). Additionally, the use of objectivity in assessment of coating performance, for example by accurate measurement of degree of disbondment, is demonstrated in this work. The use of image analysis and digital imaging of current photographic standards as a properly objective tool is suggested.

Book Corrosion Testing for Metal Finishing

Download or read book Corrosion Testing for Metal Finishing written by V. E. Carter and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion Testing for Metal Finishing provides metal finishers with a range of test methods as well as guidance in the choice of method for a particular finish. There is a wide range of corrosion test methods available, the majority being the subject of Standard Specifications or being brought to Standards status. With many product Standards there is a choice of test methods available to met the Standard requirements. It is hoped that the relevant choice may be obtained more easily as a result of the information published in this book. The book outlines the apparatus and procedure for each test method and discusses its applicability to different metals and finishes. Indications are given of the nature and extent of the corrosion which develops in the test. Reference is also made to the relevant Standards for each test method. The book begins with a discussion of the basic requirements for corrosion testing of finished metal products. Subsequent chapters are devoted to testing procedures such as humidity tests, salt fog tests, industrial atmosphere test, porosity test, and anti-perspiration tests.

Book Laboratory Cyclic Corrosion Test

Download or read book Laboratory Cyclic Corrosion Test written by Automotive Corrosion and Prevention Committee and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The SAE J2334 lab test procedure should be used when determining cosmetic corrosion performance for a particular coating system, substrate, process, or design. Since it is a field correlated test, it can be used as a validation tool as well as a development tool. If corrosion mechanisms other than cosmetic or general corrosion are to be examined using this test, field correlation must be established.

Book Guidelines for Laboratory Cyclic Corrosion Test Procedures for Painted Automotive Parts

Download or read book Guidelines for Laboratory Cyclic Corrosion Test Procedures for Painted Automotive Parts written by Automotive Corrosion and Prevention Committee and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These guidelines are intended for those engineers and scientists who evaluate the corrosion performance of painted automotive parts in laboratory cyclic tests. The guidelines are intended to help ensure that the results of the tests can be used to reach conclusions concerning the variables under study without being confounded by the test procedure itself. The guidelines also serve as a means to assist users of this type of test in obtaining good inter-laboratory agreement of results.

Book Corrosion and Electrochemistry of Zinc

Download or read book Corrosion and Electrochemistry of Zinc written by Xiaoge Gregory Zhang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humankind's use of zinc stretches back to antiquity, and it was a component in some of the earliest known alloy systems. Even though metallic zinc was not "discovered" in Europe until 1746 (by Marggral), zinc ores were used for making brass in biblical times, and an 87% zinc alloy was found in prehistoric ruins in Transylvania. Also, zinc (the metal) was produced in quantity in India as far back as the thirteenth century, well before it was recognized as being a separate element. The uses of zinc are manifold, ranging from galvanizing to die castings to electronics. It is a preferred anode material in high-energy-density batteries (e.g., Ni/Zn, Ag/Zn, ZnJair), so that its electrochemistry, particularly in alkaline media, has been extensively explored. In the passive state, zinc is photoelectrochemically active, with the passive film displaying n-type characteristics. For the same reason that zinc is considered to be an excellent battery anode, it has found extensive use as a sacrificial anode for the protection of ships and pipelines from corrosion. Indeed, aside from zinc's well-known attributes as an alloying element, its widespread use is principally due to its electrochemical properties, which include a well-placed position in the galvanic series for protecting iron and steel in natural aqueous environments and its reversible dissolution behavior in alkaline solutions.

Book Plastics for Corrosion Inhibition

Download or read book Plastics for Corrosion Inhibition written by V.A. Goldade and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the key problems of failure-free operation of machinery is prevention of corrosion. The global scale of modern production makes this problem even more critical. At the beginning of the 21st century industrial contami- tion and the corrosion-active nature of the environment reached a level such that corrosive damage of materials became commensurate with their prod- tion volume and expenditure on anticorrosion protection of machines became comparable with investments in basic production. Anticorrosion techniques changed from being an auxiliary service to industrial enterprises into a dev- oping, scienti?cally intensive and generously ?nanced branch of production. Polymers occupy a very speci?c place amongst anticorrosion techniques. Polymers combine good chemical resistance with impermeability to di?- ent media and unusual deformation characteristics. The main principle of their application as anticorrosion means is the creation of a tight barrier that insulates metal machine parts or constructions from corrosion agents. The advantages of polymers allow the creation of such a barrier at minimal cost, providingprotectionoftheworkingmachinesfromcorrosion, combining their manufacture with preservation and decreasing the cost of anticorrosion. This is one of the main reasons why world production of polymer materials increased by almost 50% in the past decade.
