Book Cutting the Gordian Knot the Final Solution

Download or read book Cutting the Gordian Knot the Final Solution written by Kevin Marsh and published by Paragon Publishing. This book was released on 2016-07-14 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TWO MONTHS AFTER their disastrous holiday, Orlagh and Jerry are at home in Ireland recovering from their terrifying ordeal. The Belgae Torc is at last on display at the National Museum and Orlagh is under increasing pressure to divide her time between her work at the museum and heading up an archaeological dig in County Meath. She is convinced that an ancient battle between Iron Age tribes took place here and is determined to prove her theory, but as archaeologists begin to unearth the truth, they are faced with some unexpected surprises. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, Jack Harrington is making discoveries of his own and finds himself juggling personal and professional commitments. His organisation is still recovering from recent events in the Mediterranean and is loathed to be drawn into another deadly conflict, but like it or not, there are unresolved issues that cannot be avoided. The Phoenix Legion is about to implement the final phase of its master plan and this time Schiffer is convinced that nothing can stop him from realising his goal. With the past merging with the present, the elements of a deadly conclusion are finally coming together. Will history repeat itself or can another worldwide catastrophe be avoided? Book Generosity and the Christian Future

Download or read book Generosity and the Christian Future written by George M. Newlands and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2008-07-17 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the 1995 Henson Lectures, delivered in the University of Oxford, this study takes as its theme the Christian future, and the development of a theology of generosity in response to the challenges likely to face Christian faith in the twenty-first century. In particular, Professor Newlands wishes to explore the suggestion that Christ represents the ultimate generosity of God for humankind. This leads him to concentrate on the contribution made by Christian doctrine to public issues, and especially the relationship between Christology and human rights. The author is centrally concerned that faith should remain in the public square, and that the circle of faith should always be outward facing. The result is a liberal, pluralistic theology, which regards the generous love of God, in incarnation and reconciliation, as a powerful stimulus to imaginative Christian thought and action. In its robust portrayal of what Christianity ought properly to look like, this book--which emerges from the pen of the leading Scottish liberal theologian of his generation--will be sure to stimulate and engage a wide variety of readers.

Book excerpt: Numerous opinion polls, reported from time to time in the daily newspaper, reveal that approximately 40% of Americans believe in Creationism, 40% in Intelligent Design and 20% in Evolution. Have you ever wondered why there are three such drastically different explanations of our origin? Evolution: The Inevitable Consequence of the Need for Species Survival explains why there are three, and how and why three were developed. Perhaps you are a Creationist; you will meet Stephen Geoffrey who was once a Creationist. He describes his agonizing reappraisal of his beliefs and eventual abandonment of Creationism. Take a look; it might change your views. The Bible states in Genesis, Chapter 7, verse 19, regarding the biblical Flood, that ..".the waters prevailed so mightily upon the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered." That's a lot of water - did it really happen? Chapter 9 answers this question by examining the biblical Flood in detail, such as the 820 million cubic miles of water required to cover the highest mountains, for which there is no credible source. If you do not believe in Evolution, the powerful and detailed facts in Evolution might cause you to pause and reconsider; even if only for a moment.

Book The First English Empire

Download or read book The First English Empire written by R. R. Davies and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2000-10-05 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The future of the United Kingdom is an increasingly vexed question. This book traces the roots of the issue to the middle ages, when English power and control came to extend to the whole of the British Isles. By 1300 it looked as if Edward I was in control of virtually the whole of the British Isles. Ireland, Scotland, and Wales had, in different degrees, been subjugated to his authority; contemporaries were even comparing him with King Arthur. This was the culmination of a remarkable English advance into the outer zones of the British Isles in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The advance was not only a matter of military power, political control, and governmental and legal institutions; it also involved extensive colonization and the absorption of these outer zones into the economic and cultural orbit of an England-dominated world. What remained to be seen was how stable (especially in Scotland and Ireland) was this English 'empire'; how far the northern and western parts of the British Isles could be absorbed into an English-centred polity and society; and to what extent did the early and self-confident development of English identity determine the relationships between England and the rest of the British Isles. The answers to those questions would be shaped by the past of the country that was England; the answers would also cast their shadow over the future of the British Isles for centuries to come.

Book excerpt: “People had died because of the Belgae Torc and somehow she felt responsible.” Twelve months has passed since the traumatic events that almost claimed her life and Dr Orlagh Gairne is looking forward to a well-earned holiday. With her partner, Jerry, they jet off for the Aegean coast where they plan to make the most of the Mediterranean sun and visit the ancient sites of Anatolia. The Phoenix Legion, still reeling from a humiliating defeat, have re-grouped and are now planning the next phase of their quest. They are in possession of the Belgae Torc, but this is not enough to ensure total power so they must rely on the druids and their connection with the spirit world. Whilst searching for treasure in the Sea of Azov, Jack Harrington and his team make an unexpected discovery and with the past merging with the present are unable to avoid being drawn in to another deadly battle. The Belgae Torc, Jack Harrington and The Phoenix Legion are far from her thoughts, but as Orlagh enjoys her holiday with the man she loves, these forces come together. Will she manage to avoid another conflict or will she become a victim of circumstances that are beyond her control? Also by Kevin Marsh: The Belgae Torc

Book excerpt: A dynamic exploration of infinity In Infinity and the Mind, Rudy Rucker leads an excursion to that stretch of the universe he calls the “Mindscape,” where he explores infinity in all its forms: potential and actual, mathematical and physical, theological and mundane. Using cartoons, puzzles, and quotations to enliven his text, Rucker acquaints us with staggeringly advanced levels of infinity, delves into the depths beneath daily awareness, and explains Kurt Gödel’s belief in the possibility of robot consciousness. In the realm of infinity, mathematics, science, and logic merge with the fantastic. By closely examining the paradoxes that arise, we gain profound insights into the human mind, its powers, and its limitations.
