Book Curriculum based Measurement s Role in Guiding Instruction

Download or read book Curriculum based Measurement s Role in Guiding Instruction written by Lance McClard and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Educators have searched for an early reading assessment that is aligned and could be given prior to their respective state's high-stakes test. Information gleaned from the early assessment could be used to guide instruction and assist with the monitoring of student progress prior to the first year of state high-stakes testing. Too often students in need of extra reading supports are identified too late for interventions to have a maximal impact (Reynolds & Shaywitz, 2009). The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between early assessments given prior to Missouri's state high-stakes test, the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP), in a school district located in the southeast of Missouri. The researcher examined scores of early literacy tests utilized by the district from the same year of the first MAP administration. Curriculum based measurements in reading (R-CBM) and cloze task word selection (maze), Developmental Reading Assessments (DRA), and district summative common assessments and compared them to scale scores on the Communication Arts portion of MAP. The dependability of each district utilized assessment (R-CBM, maze, DRA, and district summative common assessments) in predicting MAP scores should assist with the improvement of instruction within reading. If the R-CBM, maze, DRA, and/or summative common assessments do not accurately measure the performance of students on the MAP, schools utilizing one or a combination of these assessments will either be devoting resources, time, and/or money to students that do not need additional help. Furthermore, schools could be ignoring students who were in need of interventions and modified instruction. Additionally, local assessments are used to inform and adjust instruction in order to maximized student learning (Stiggins & DuFour, 2009). If the local assessments do not accurately reflect the state test, invalid decisions could be made that lead to poor teaching or gaps in the delivered curriculum.

Book A Study of the Relationship of the Diagnostic Reading Assessment 2 to the Missouri Assessment Program in Communication Arts

Download or read book A Study of the Relationship of the Diagnostic Reading Assessment 2 to the Missouri Assessment Program in Communication Arts written by Ruth Ann Orr and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cape Girardeau Public School district has participated in summative assessment practices as mandated federal requirements. As required in Missouri, the district currently uses the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) as its summative measurement. To gauge progress throughout the school year, the district also uses a variety of formative assessments. One of the assessments used to measure progress in the area of communication arts is the Diagnostic Reading Assessment, Second Edition (DRA2). The purpose of the study was to conduct a correlational analysis of the DRA2 and the MAP to determine if the performance on the DRA2 could predict a student's performance on the MAP. Correlation coefficients were computed between the DRA2 scores and MAP scores for grades 3 and 4 for both the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years. Correlation coefficients indicated a strong to very strong correlation for both cohorts when comparing both the Grade 3 and 4 DRA2 scores to the Grade 3 and 4 MAP scores. There was also a very strong correlation when comparing the Grade 3 DRA2 scores to the Grade 4 MAP score. Therefore, the DRA2 does appear to be a good predictor of performance on the MAP.

Book Comparison Between Student Math Fluency as Assessed by AimsWeb MCOMP Test and Grades 3 4 5 Student Achievement as Measured by State Assessments in the State of Missouri

Download or read book Comparison Between Student Math Fluency as Assessed by AimsWeb MCOMP Test and Grades 3 4 5 Student Achievement as Measured by State Assessments in the State of Missouri written by Kristina Rinard and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just as in most other states in the United States, educators in the state of Missouri are eager to predict student outcomes on the state mandated test, in this case the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP). Schools and districts are anxious for students to perform at a proficient or advanced level in both mathematics and reading. The more information they can collate to tell them where their students are performing at the beginning of the year, the more specialized and specific educators can be in their instruction. Many schools have turned to private assessment and data collection systems, like AimsWeb, to help them ascertain which students are at risk for performing below the proficient level on the MAP. For this study, individual student MAP scores were collected from the district as well as individual scores on the AimsWeb Math Computational Assessment. Research indicated that there is a moderate correlation between students' scores on the AimsWeb M-COMP assessments and the MAP test.

Book Curriculum based Measurement as a Predictor of State Standardized Test Performance for Third and Fourth Grade Students

Download or read book Curriculum based Measurement as a Predictor of State Standardized Test Performance for Third and Fourth Grade Students written by Roxie A. Smith and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM) performance as a predictor of student performance on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) and the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) for third- and fourth- grade elementary students in a rural inland northwest elementary school. Regression analyses indicated that CBM basic skills measures were significant predictors of iTBS and WASL subtest performance. Oral reading fluency, as measured through CBM reading probes, was the strongest predictor of performance across all subject areas of both standardized tests"--Document.

Book Curriculum Based Measurements and State Assessments in Math

Download or read book Curriculum Based Measurements and State Assessments in Math written by Amanda Kay Schmaltz and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project analyzed the relationship between one district's math curriculum based measurements (CBM), reading CBMs, and North Dakota State Assessment (NDSA) scores in math. The author reviewed data from 535 students from a small city in North Dakota. The district collected AIMSweb Math Concepts and Application, Math Computation, and Oral Reading scores from second graders. The researcher then compared the same participants' third grade math state test scores to measure the predictive validity of the CBMs.The results of this study found a moderate correlation between math and reading CBMs and the distrct's state assessment scores (r=.496-.585). A regression analysis also found the combination of four sets of benchmark data collected using different math and reading CBMs accounted for the highest amount of variance on the state assessment analyzed.

Book Curriculum based Measurement in Mathematics

Download or read book Curriculum based Measurement in Mathematics written by Katherine Ann Stinson and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Curriculum-Based Measures (CBMs) in reading and their relationship to state standardized tests have been established and an important feature of CBMs. This study will examine the predictive relationship of CBMs (i.e. computation and application) in mathematics on a state standardized assessment for elementary students. This will assist educators in the early identification of problems and the adjusting of their instructional practices in order to promote proficiency on state assessments. The current study used 97 students from one school (35 third graders, 25 fourth graders, and 37 fifth graders). Students were given three probes, two weeks apart. The average scores on the probes tended to increase in all three grade levels for both computation and concepts/applications. A regression analysis indicated that both computation and application probes were significant in predicting WKCE results, indicating that math CBMs can be a valid tool in predicting future performance on WKCEs.
