Book excerpt: For most of my life, people thought I had it all. I won pageants, singing competitions, debate tournaments and more. But what no one knew is that I was a severe food addict who was digging an early grave with my teeth. My health problems culminated when I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and a laundry list of other problems at age 21. I knew that if I wanted to live, I had to figure a way out and fast! I found healing by trading in my fake lifestyle for an authentic one-one that focused on real food instead of the convenient, yet harmful ones. This book is a story about how I got sick, my struggle with food addiction, how I overcame debilitating health problems, and the plan I developed to reverse irritable bowel diseases such as Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis.

Book The IBD Healing Plan and Recipe Book

Download or read book The IBD Healing Plan and Recipe Book written by Christie A. Korth and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 2012-04-10 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly 1.4 million Americans suffer from inflammatory bowel disease and this number climbs every year. Christie Korth, a nutrition expert, helps those with Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis understand their food intolerances and lays out a holistic approach to dealing with their IBD that can help them lead healthy and pain-free lives. Korth also helps the reader explore the possibility of emotional involvement in the disease onset, making this the first book to address both the nutritional and the emotional factors of the disease. Korth herself suffered IBD and writes with insight, supplementing the nutritional and lifestyle information in the book with her own account of achieving wellness. She also includes stories of IBD relief told by those who have worked with her. The compassionate tone, understanding, and humor in this book offer emotional support for the reader, which is a key component for his or her recovery. Much of the focus of the book is on nutrition, and Korth introduces and explains menu planning, food choices, the concept of heating and cooling foods, common Crohn’s disease drug side effects and how to counter act them nutritionally, acid/alkaline imbalance and the major one--food intolerance. The nutritional information is enhanced by a thorough discussion of beneficial vitamins, herbs, natural chemicals that readers can take to supplement their diets. Korth shares tips on what to buy and how to take certain supplements, giving readers a complete idea of the nutritional options available to them. In addition to the groundbreaking information on digestive wellness, this book contains 100 recipes suitable for those with IBD. All recipes — for everything from beverages to vegetables, from salad to dessert — are free of the top eight common allergens. There are recipes that are supportive to those having a flare up, and lists of foods you should eat and foods you should avoid. The book is also complete with shopping substitution cards for those who have food intolerance. Along with the abundance of recipes, Korth includes daily ideas for lunches “on the go” so busy readers can eat convenient, healthy meals. The book also includes sample menus, exercises, worksheets, and personal habit quizzes that can help readers reflect on their own habits and explore the benefits of committing to digestive health. Illustrations, photos, and charts enhance the book’s message, and a directory of helpful websites directs readers to further information. The IBD Healing Plan and Recipe Book gives readers the knowledge they need to manage their pain and offers companionate emotional support during the process. The book does not advocate a “one size fits all” solution, nor does it leave readers reliant on prescription drugs or surgery. Its recipe and diet advice allows readers to achieve digestive health. Though Korth is not claiming to cure IBD, she believes that with appropriate intervention, there is great hope for someone to live symptom-free using natural methods.

Download or read book A Cure for Crohn s written by David N. Armstrong and published by . This book was released on 2021-06 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Cure for Crohn's is a true life medical mystery of how the cause of a disease which affects 1.5 million Americans, mostly adolescents, has been kept undercover from the public. An identical disease occurs in cattle, called "Johne's disease" (pronounced Yo-nee's), which is caused by a bacterium, mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis, or "MAP." The bacterium is carried by flocks of migrating birds, which contaminate the pasturelands, causing Johne's disease in dairy cattle. MAP is then secreted in the cow's milk, finds its way into consumer milk products, and causes Crohn's disease in susceptible individuals. Supposedly to avert a public panic, the link between Johne's disease, Crohn's disease, and milk has been suppressed by government agencies. Originally, MAP could not be seen by conventional microscopy in Crohn's disease specimens, and the theory was dismissed as fearmongering. However, with more modern DNA analysis, MAP's genetic fingerprints have been identified in practically every Crohn's disease specimen examined. Finally, the perpetrator has been uncovered. Tel Aviv's RedHill Biopharma has developed an antibiotic cocktail - designated RHB-104 - which is effective against MAP- and Crohn's disease. The results from the first Phase 3 clinical trial, released in December 2020, were a spectacular success. At last the real cause of Crohn's disease has been proven and an effective treatment is emerging. At last - A Cure for Crohn's.

Book excerpt: "A Cure for Crohn's" is a true-life medical mystery of how the cause of a disease that affects 1.5 million Americans, mostly adolescents, has been kept undercover from the public. A Cure for Crohn's examines an extremely complex and controversial topic. It explains the radical rethinking of Crohn's disease from an "idiopathic" disease (unknown cause) to a proven zoonotic disease (transmitted from birds to animals to man), caused by the bacterium mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis, or MAP. Flocks of migrating starling (the "vectors") contaminate pasturelands with MAP, causing Johne's disease in dairy cattle ("the reservoirs" of disease). Finally, MAP is transmitted to susceptible individuals as Crohn's disease via contaminated dairy products or runoff water supplies. Whenever, wherever, and however MAP is introduced, Johne's disease emerges, and eventually Crohn's disease surges. Supposedly to avert a public panic, the link between Johne's disease, Crohn's disease, and milk has been dismissed by government agencies. Originally, MAP could not be identified in Crohn's disease specimens and the theory was dismissed as fearmongering. However, with more modern DNA analysis, MAP's genetic fingerprints have been identified in practically every Crohn's disease specimen examined. There are numerous unexplained Crohn's "coincidences" throughout the world, "hotspots" and "clusters" which defy conventional medical logic. Why did twelve children in a single street in Winnipeg develop Crohn's disease out of the blue? Why is Crohn's disease in Australian children escalating when the disease was previously unknown? Why, in the 1990s, did the rate of Crohn's disease in Iceland increase by a factor of twenty, from a standing start? Why did Crohn's disease become a mini epidemic in Czechoslovakia, thirty years after independence from the USSR? Why did twelve children in a French village all develop Crohn's disease, within a few years of each other? Why did seven unrelated pupils at the Mankato, MN Class of 1980 simultaneously develop Crohn's disease? Finally, after decades of denial by regulatory authorities, disappointment for researchers, and despair from Crohn's disease patients, we have a proven perpetrator- MAP. The mold has been broken: Crohn's disease is a zoonotic disease caused by a bacterium and can be successfully treated by an antibiotic combination - RedHill Biopharma's RHB-104, the first step toward - A Cure for Crohn's. Bio Dr. David Armstrong is a colorectal surgeon in Atlanta GA and has extensive experience in treating patients with Crohn's disease. Born on a small dairy farm in North Yorkshire, England he saw cattle die from Johne's disease. Migrating to the US as a surgeon at Yale University, Mayo Clinic, and Atlanta GA, he saw the same wasting disease in his patients, but now the name changes to Crohn's disease. Dr. Armstrong has published extensively on Crohn's disease, has developed multiple innovative surgical devices, and even developed medication for Crohn's disease. He established the first Colorectal Surgical Fellowship teaching program in the Southeastern United States. Dr. Armstrong is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons. He lives in Atlanta with his wife and two sons.

Book I Healed My Crohn s Colitis

Download or read book I Healed My Crohn s Colitis written by Robert A. Stickles and published by BalboaPress. This book was released on 2011-12-27 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of my life stories and beliefs and how I healed myself using thought and the art of meditation. There was a time when I was so sick that I felt hopeless and fed up. I was not finding answers to any questions I had about my Crohns Colitis. When I got the doctors final recommendation that the only cure was removing part of my intestine and replacing it with something manmade (a colostomy bag), I realized I had to take a stand. I asked myself why my body was fighting me. I asked what in my brain was telling my body to attack itself. These are the questions that seemed to have no answer because I had no one to ask. I felt alone. Twenty years have gone by now and using meditation I have learned that the answers are within me. I am in the right time of my life and everything has come together to a point where I truly understand what I have done and can share it with you. Each one of these stories shows the power of thoughts of healing. Each story leaves you to ask the important questions of yourself so that you can find your own answers. This book is about healing from the inside-out. In this book I share my stories and a simple meditation technique that you can follow on your path to empower yourself. Book excerpt: Crohns Disease (CD) is one of the most important chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) that can affect the whole gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus and whose inflammation extends through all layers of the gut wall. Treatments normally consist of controlling the symptoms, maintaining remission, and preventing relapse. Despite many years of study, the exact aetiology and pathogenesis of this disorder still remains unclear; however, great advances have been made in the last decades and have provided insights into the complex, multi-factorial processes and mechanisms that can result in chronic intestinal inflammation such as those present in Crohn's Disease. This book will describe etiological factors (host-microbiome interactions, nutrition, immune system, genetic and life-styles), novel and conventional diagnostic tools (magnetic resonance enterography, multidetector contrast-enhanced computed tomography, small bowel magnetic resonance imaging, intestinal ultrasound, endoscopy and histology), complications (musculo-skeletal, and intra-abdominal) along with conventional and novel treatment options (strictureplasty techniques, use of biological agents, probiotic micro-organisms and genetically engineered lactic acid bacteria) for CD and other IBD. This new book is a compilation of topics that have been written by experts from all over the world (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States of America) who work in medical, clinical or research settings offering different viewpoints on the most up-to-date information currently available on Crohns Disease.
