Book Philosophy of Globalization

Download or read book Philosophy of Globalization written by Concha Roldán and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-06-11 with total page 659 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not so long ago, it seemed the intellectual positions on globalization were clear, with advocates and opponents making their respective cases in decidedly contrasting terms. Recently, however, the fronts have shifted dramatically. The aim of this publication is to contribute philosophical depth to the debates on globalization conducted within various academic fields – principally by working out its normative dimensions. The interdisciplinary nature of this book’s contributors also serves to scientifically ground the ethical-philosophical discourse on global responsibility. Though by no means exhaustive, the expansive scope of the works herein encompasses such other topics as the altering consciousness of space and time, and the phenomenon of globalization as a discourse, as an ideology and as a symbolic form.

Book Elecciones y cambio de lites en Am rica Latina 2014 y 2015

Download or read book Elecciones y cambio de lites en Am rica Latina 2014 y 2015 written by Manuel ALCÁNTARA SÁEZ and published by Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca. This book was released on 2016-06-15 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Enhancing Democracy

Download or read book Enhancing Democracy written by Gonzalo Delamaza and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the end of the Pinochet regime, Chilean public policy has sought to rebuild democratic governance in the country. This book examines the links between the state and civil society in Chile and the ways social policies have sought to ensure the inclusion of the poor in society and democracy. Although Chile has gained political stability and grown economically, the ability of social policies to expand democratic governance and participation has proved limited, and in fact such policies have become subordinate to an elitist model of democracy and resulted in a restrictive form of citizen participation.

Book Politicians and Politics in Latin America

Download or read book Politicians and Politics in Latin America written by Manuel Alcántara Sáez and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The premise of this book is, simply, that politicians matter, that an understanding of the role played by politicians in the way that politics is carried out in their countries is, far from constituting a resurrection of outdated elitist theories, of vital importance in present-day Latin America. pioneering field research on the opinions of Latin American legislators in 17 countries, they focus on two broad topics: political systems, as reflected in politicians' perspectives on the democracies and party organizations of which they are a part; and the role played by ideology, not only in shaping positions on issues, but also as a factor that gives coherence to parties. Their seminal work is central to the current political dynamics in the region, as well as to broader debates in political science.

Book The Pentecostal World

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael Wilkinson
  • Publisher : Taylor & Francis
  • Release : 2023-04-01
  • ISBN : 1000871223
  • Pages : 743 pages

Download or read book The Pentecostal World written by Michael Wilkinson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-04-01 with total page 743 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pentecostal World provides a comprehensive and critical introduction to one of the most vibrant and diverse expressions of contemporary Christianity. Unlike many books on Pentecostalism, this collection of essays from all continents does not attempt to synthesize and simplify the movement’s inherent diversity and fragmented dispersion. Instead, the global flows of Pentecostalism are firmly grounded in local histories and expressions, as well as the various modes of their worldwide reproduction. The book thus argues for a new understanding of Pentecostal and Charismatic movements that accounts for the simultaneous processes of pluralization and homogenization in contemporary World Christianity. Written by a distinguished team of international contributors across various disciplines, the volume is comprised of six parts, with each offering a critical perspective on classical themes in the study of Pentecostalism. Led by a programmatic introduction, the thirty-six chapters within these parts explore a variety of themes: history and historiography, conversion, spirit beliefs and exorcism, prosperity, politics, gender relations, sexual identities, racism, development, migration, pilgrimage, interreligious relations, media, ecumenism, and academic research. The Pentecostal World is essential reading for students and researchers in anthropology, history, political science, religious studies, sociology, and theology. The book will also be very useful for those in related fields, such as culture studies, black studies, ethnic studies, and gender studies.

Book The Social Outburst and Political Representation in Chile

Download or read book The Social Outburst and Political Representation in Chile written by Bernardo Navarrete and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-16 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book in English to present a comprehensive analysis of the October 2019 social outbreak in Chile and its consequences for the country’s political system. For almost 30 years (1990-2019), Chile was recognized as a model of political and economic stability in Latin America, but the 2019 protests put into question the whole structure of representation based on programmatic political parties. This contributed volume analyzes the causes of the social outbreak by examining the interaction between political parties and social movements in Chile since 2000, establishing bridges between the sociology of social movements and the political science of parties and forms of traditional political representation. The book is organized in three parts. The first part analyzes the collapse of the political party system in Chile. The second part shows how social movements introduced innovative forms of political mobilization that challenged the traditional forms of political representation. Finally, the third part presents case studies focusing on specific social movements and their contributions to the renewal of political representation in Chile. The Social Outburst and Political Representation in Chile will be a valuable resource for sociologists, political scientists and other social scientists interested in understanding the challenges posed to political parties and institutions by social movements formed by citizens who no longer see themselves represented by the traditional forms political participation.
