Book excerpt: Environmental concerns regarding continuous use of synthetic dyes saw a revival in the demand for natural dyes as natural dyes exhibit better biodegradability and generally have a higher compatibility with the environment. However, one of the limitations on the use of natural dyes or pigments is the low extraction yield factors (a few grams of pigment per kg of dried raw material). Therefore, the exploitation of other biological sources such as fungi, bacteria and cell cultures offers interesting alternative. Microbial pigments such as from bacterial origins offer the advantage in terms of production compared to pigments extracted from vegetables or animals, due to its simple cell and fast culturing technique. This book offers interesting insight into initial works carried out to demonstrate the potential use of bacterial pigment as colorant for various applications.

Por tal razón, se presenta un informe de anteproyecto a la empresa Paabran S.A. con el objetivo de evaluar la prefactibilidad del mismo, teniendo la visión de poder incrementar los ingresos por medio de nuevos centros productivos. Pues la necesidad de mayores ingresos y escases de recursos es un problema que afecta a todo el sector productivo a nivel nacional. Por lo cual las empresas se ven obligadas a buscar nuevas alternativas. El objetivo planteado por la empresa es de 50 libras de producto por semana, y para alcanzar una estimación real, se realizó un estudio técnico considerando los factores que influyen en el área específica de interés. El cuál ayudó a pronosticar una producción anual de 2,400 libras de hongo Ostra. Con los datos del estudio técnico se procedió a realizar el análisis de prefactibilidad y se pudo concluir que el proyecto es factible, y se solventa en el primer año de producción.
