This book was released on 2018-07-13 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new microcomputer based controller for the 0.3-m Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel (TCT) has been commissioned in 1988 and has reliably operated for more than a year. The tunnel stagnation pressure, gas stagnation temperature, tunnel wall structural temperature and flow Mach number are precisely controlled by the new controller in a stable manner. The tunnel control hardware, software, and the flow chart to assist in calibration of the sensors, actuators, and the controller real time functions are described. The software installation details are also presented. The report serves as the maintenance and trouble shooting manual for the 0.3-m TCT controller. Balakrishna, S. and Kilgore, W. This book was released on 2018-11-03 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NASA Langley 0.3-m Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel is to be modified to operate with sulfur hexafluoride gas while retaining its present capability to operate with nitrogen. The modified tunnel will provide high Reynolds number flow on aerodynamic models with two different test gases. The document details a study of the SF6 tunnel performance boundaries, thermodynamic modeling of the tunnel process, nonlinear dynamical simulation of math model to yield tunnel responses, the closed loop control requirements, control laws, and mechanization of the control laws on the microprocessor based controller. Book Image Degradation in Langley 0 3 Meter Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel

Download or read book Image Degradation in Langley 0 3 Meter Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The optical quality of gas in a cryogenic wind tunnel was determined by observing Sayce targets through different pathlengths of the medium. The data were used to determine the square wave response of the test gas. At conditions corresponding to 15 times ambient density, considerable decrease in response to higher spatial frequencies was noted even in the absence of flow. Under flow conditions, vibrations further degraded the response. The results are interpreted in terms of possible photogrammetric approaches to measure model deformation in large cryogenic facilities such as the National Transonic Facility. Snow, W. Book Hardware and Operating Features of the Adaptive Wall Test Section for the 0 3 Meter Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel

Download or read book Hardware and Operating Features of the Adaptive Wall Test Section for the 0 3 Meter Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-18 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 13- by 13-inch adaptive wall test section was installed in the Langley 0.3-Meter Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel circuit. This test section has four solid walls and is configured for two-dimensional airfoil testing. The top and bottom walls are flexible and movable, whereas the sidwalls are rigid and fixed. The test section has a turntable to support airfoil models, a survey mechanism to probe the model wake, and provisions for a sidewall boundary-layer-control system. Details of the adaptive wall test section, the tunnel circuit modifications, the supporting instrumentation, the monitoring and control hardware, and the wall adaptation strategy are discussed. Sample results of shakedown tests with the test section empty and with an airfoil installed are also included. Mineck, Raymond E. Langley Research Center RTOP 505-61-21-03...

Book Sensitivity Analysis of Cool Down Strategies for a Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel

Download or read book Sensitivity Analysis of Cool Down Strategies for a Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-08-13 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guidelines and suggestions substantiated by real-time simulation data to ensure optimum time and energy use of injected liquid nitrogen for cooling the Langley 0.3-Meter Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel (TCT) are presented. It is directed toward enabling operators and researchers to become cognizant of criteria for using the 0.3-m TCT in an energy- or time-efficient manner. Operational recommendations were developed based on information collected from a validated simulator of the 0.3-m TCT and experimental data from the tunnel. Results and trends, however, can be extrapolated to other similarly constructed cryogenic wind tunnels. Thibodeaux, J. J. Book Calibration of the 13 By 13 Inch Adaptive Wall Test Section for the Langley 0 3 Meter Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel

Download or read book Calibration of the 13 By 13 Inch Adaptive Wall Test Section for the Langley 0 3 Meter Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by . This book was released on 2018-11-10 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 13 by 13 inch adaptive wall test section was installed in the 0.3 Meter Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel circuit. This new test section is configured for 2-D airfoil testing. It has four solid walls. The top and bottom walls are flexible and movable whereas the sidewalls are rigid and fixed. The wall adaptation strategy employed requires the test section wall shapes associated with uniform test section Mach number distributions. Calibration tests with the test section empty were conducted with the top and bottom walls linearly diverged to approach a uniform Mach number distribution. Pressure distributions were measured in the contraction cone, the test section, and the high speed diffuser at Mach numbers from 0.20 to 0.95 and Reynolds numbers from 10 to 100 x 10 (exp 6)/per foot.
