Download or read book Lessons from the Masters written by Robert Gendler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-13 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are currently thousands of amateur astronomers around the world engaged in astrophotography at a sophisticated level. Their ranks far outnumber professional astronomers doing the same and their contributions both technically and artistically are the dominant drivers of progress in the field today. This book is a unique collaboration of individuals world-renowned in their particular area and covers in detail each of the major sub-disciplines of astrophotography. This approach offers the reader the greatest opportunity to learn the most current information and the latest techniques directly from the foremost innovators in the field today. “Lessons from the Masters” includes a brilliant body of recognized leaders in astronomical imaging, assembled by Robert Gendler, who delivers the most current, sophisticated and useful information on digital enhancement techniques in astrophotography available today. Each chapter focuses on a particular technique, but the book as a whole covers all types of astronomical image processing, including processing of events such as eclipses, using DSLRs, and deep-sky, planetary, widefield, and high resolution astronomical image processing. Recognized contributors include deep-sky experts such as Jay GaBany, Tony Hallas, and Ken Crawford, high-resolution planetary expert Damian Peach, and the founder of TWAN (The World at Night) Babak A. Tafreshi. A large number of illustrations (150, 75 in color) present the challenges and accomplishments involved in the processing of astronomical images by enthusiasts.

Book One Shot Color Astronomical Imaging

Download or read book One Shot Color Astronomical Imaging written by L. A. Kennedy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-04-05 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows amateur astronomers how to use one-shot CCD cameras, and how to get the best out of equipment that exposes all three color images at once. Because this book is specifically devoted to one-shot imaging, "One-Shot Color Astronomical Imaging" begins by looking at all the basics - what equipment will be needed, how color imaging is done, and most importantly, what specific steps need to be followed after the one-shot color images are taken. What is one-shot color imaging? Typically, astronomical cooled-chip CCD cameras record only one color at a time - rather like old-fashioned black & white cameras fitted with color filters. Three images are taken in sequence - in red, blue, and green light - and these are then merged by software in a PC to form a color image. Each of the three images must be taken separately through a suitable color filter, which means that the total exposure time for every object is more than tripled. When exposure times can run into tens of minutes or even hours for each of the three colors, this can be a major drawback for the time-pressed amateur. "One-Shot Color Astronomical Imaging" describes the most cost-effective and time-efficient way for any amateur astronomer to begin to photograph the deep-sky.

Book The Nuts and Bolts of Astrophotography Hardware Software and Images

Download or read book The Nuts and Bolts of Astrophotography Hardware Software and Images written by LeRoy Goering and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-10 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for those interested in the basics of deep space viewing and astrophotography. The contents identify and describe the components which are necessary for a personal observatory. Methods of observation are discussed including the software tools and procedures used for imaging of deep space objects, and the processing steps required to get the best results from the raw images. Included are discussions of options and the rationale for the my choice of components. All images were acquired using the hardware, software, and methods described in this book. Three cameras were used (DSLR, Color CCD, Mono CCD) with differing telescope configurations and F-ratios of the EdgeHD 280mm reflector. The images in this book provide realistic examples of the capabilities and image quality the reader can expect with the different options. All the images are also accompanied with descriptions. The literature in many cases contains conflicting information on the objects, rough estimates of size, distance, structure and composition. Approximations are all there is, some better than others. I have composed a descriptive paragraph for each image in the collection which includes basic attributes on each object, along with a sprinkling of comments, telescope and camera configuration, object names, locations, and time of year availability.

Book excerpt: Deep-Sky Video Astronomy is a concise guide to using modern integrating video cameras for deep-sky viewing and imaging with the kinds of modest telescopes available commercially to amateur astronomers. It includes an introduction and a brief history of the technology, camera types, etc. The authors then examine the pros and cons of this unrefrigerated yet highly efficient technology, which is already beginning to compete with expensive astronomical cooled-chip CCD cameras in quality and ease of use. There is a thorough examination of accessories used to achieve particular results. Examples are focal reducers, Barlow lenses, and optical filters. However, the focus is mostly on the practical side of creating beautiful and detailed astronomical portraits using image-stacking software, enhancement tools like PhotoShop, and creating color images with a black-and-white camera. Practical step-by-step examples supported by tried and trusted tips show how to achieve the best possible deep-sky video portrait!
