Book Tracking Industrial Energy Efficiency and CO2 Emissions

Download or read book Tracking Industrial Energy Efficiency and CO2 Emissions written by International Energy Agency and published by OECD/IEA. This book was released on 2007 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industry accounts for about one-third of global energy demand. Most of that energy is used to produce raw materials: chemicals, iron and steel, non-metallic minerals, pulp and paper and non-ferrous metals. Just how efficiently is this energy put to work? 'Tracking Industrial Energy Efficiency and CO2 Emissions' shows how industrial energy efficiency has improved over the last 25 years. Yet important opportunities for additional gains remain, which is evident when the efficiencies of different countries are compared. This analysis identifies the leaders and the laggards. It explains clearly a complex issue for non-experts.

Book International Comparisons of Energy Consumption

Download or read book International Comparisons of Energy Consumption written by Joy Dunkerley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-17 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1978, this report summarises the results of a workshop on why energy consumption is much higher in the United States than other industrialised countries with similar living standards. The papers included in the workshop make interesting comparisons between countries such as Japan and the United Kingdom and the United States, raising interesting questions about environmental policy-making. This title will be of interest to students of Environmental Studies.

Book Indicators of Energy Use and Carbon Emissions

Download or read book Indicators of Energy Use and Carbon Emissions written by Lee Schipper and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract This article reviews energy indicators, which are developed to describe the links between energy use and human activity in a disaggregated manner. After briefly reviewing a number of early and current efforts to develop indicators, we discuss the basic concepts of various indicators and the methodologies used to derive them. We also review the use of decomposition methods to aid in the analysis of trends in energy use and comparisons of uses between countries. Findings from our comparative and time-series analyses of several industrialized countries illustrate the application of these methods. Using simplified methods for estimating the carbon released in direct combustion of fossil fuels, and in electricity and heat production, energy indicators can be extended to carbon emissions. These carbon indicators can play an important role in aiding negotiations over carbon reduction targets and evaluating progress toward meeting abatement goals.

Book International Comparison of Residential Energy Use

Download or read book International Comparison of Residential Energy Use written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This summary report presents information on the end-uses of energy in the residential sector of seven major OECD countries over the period 1960-1978. Much of the information contained herein has never been published before. We present data on energy consumption by energy type and end-use for three to five different years for each country. Each year table is complemented by a set of indicators, which are assembled for the entire 20-year period at the end of each country listing. Finally, a set of key indicators from each country is displayed together in a table, allowing comparison for three periods: early (1960-63), pre-embargo (1970-73), and recent (1975-78). Analysis of these results, smoothing and interpolation of the data, addition of further data, and analytical comparison of in-country and cross-country trends will follow in the next phase of our work.

Book Data on Energy End use Patterns and Energy Efficiencies in Major CO Sub 2 Emitting Countries

Download or read book Data on Energy End use Patterns and Energy Efficiencies in Major CO Sub 2 Emitting Countries written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a report of the basic data regarding energy end-uses and efficiencies in major CO2 emitting countries. The task is part of the multi-lab carbon dioxide energy system research program. Fossil energy production and use are the largest anthropogenic source of CO2 emissions. To gain an insight into the relationship between CO2 emission and energy use, the global energy consumption patterns and the changing energy efficiencies must be better analyzed and understood. This work attempts to collect and organize the data on energy use and energy efficiency for the ten major CO2 emitting countries: USA, USSR, the People's Republic of China, Japan, the Federal Republic of Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Italy, and Australia. A wide variety of information sources have been examined. The data base is presented in tabular format. It is documented by three main parts, the first shows the total final energy consumption by fuel type and end-use sector for each nation. The second shows the detailed energy use by fuel type and function for each end-use sector: residential, commercial, transportation and industrial. The third part shows the country-specific energy balances for electricity generation and use. The data base is a living document and will be updated as additional information becomes available. The data base is to be used to accomplish the ultimate objective of improving the reliability of future CO2-emissions estimates. 7 refs., 12 tabs.

Book The Benefits of Creating a Cross Country Data Framework for Energy Efficiency

Download or read book The Benefits of Creating a Cross Country Data Framework for Energy Efficiency written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As manufacturers now sell a similar range of consumer electronics and home appliances to major markets around the world, the task of identifying a product?s energy efficiency rating has usually been the responsibility of each country and its respective government agency. This has led to a multitude of energy efficiency testing procedures, ratings, and certifications, resulting in disparate data being captured on identical products. Furthermore, lack of consistent product identification criteria means product energy performance is not easily connected to relevant information about the product such as market availability, price or real world energy consumption. This paper presents a new data standard for reporting energy performance and related product information that can be adopted internationally. To inform the development of this standard, we explore the existing energy efficiency market data for the two example products of TVs and Room Air Conditioners. This paper discusses current/future use cases of appliance level energy efficiency data across all stakeholders, including consumers, retailers/manufacturers, global standards organizations, third party service providers, and regulatory agencies. It also explains the key benefits of moving to a common international data framework for energy efficiency, such as: 1) a centralized product information repository for comparing energy use, ratings/certifications, and pricing data 2) improved access to relevant consumer electronics and appliance data to facilitate new policy development and harmonization across markets 3) enablement of retailers and other third parties to embed actionable energy efficiency information as part of the consumer experience.
