Book Kant Critique of Practical Reason

Download or read book Kant Critique of Practical Reason written by and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-01-26 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Critique of Practical Reason is the second of Kant's three Critiques, one of his three major treatises on moral theory, and a seminal text in the history of moral philosophy. Originally published three years after his Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals, the Critique provides further elaboration of the basic themes of Kant's moral theory, gives the most complete statement of his highly original theory of freedom of the will, and develops his practical metaphysics. This revised edition of Kant's Critique of Practical Reason - which contains Mary Gregor's acclaimed translation - is now the authoritative translation of this work. A substantial and lucid introduction by Andrews Reath places the mains themes of the Critique in the context of Kant's moral theory and his critical system. For this edition, the introduction has been revised and the guide to the secondary reading completely updated.

Book The Critique of Practical Reason

Download or read book The Critique of Practical Reason written by Immanuel Kant and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-05-17 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Critique of Practical Reason is the second of Immanuel Kant's three critiques. It follows on from Kant's Critique of Pure Reason and deals with his moral philosophy. The second Critique exercised a decisive influence over the subsequent development of the field of ethics and moral philosophy, beginning with Johann Gottlieb Fichte's Doctrine of Science and becoming, during the 20th century, the principal reference point for deontological moral philosophy. Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) was a German philosopher, who, according to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is "the central figure of modern philosophy." Kant argued that fundamental concepts of the human mind structure human experience, that reason is the source of morality, that aesthetics arises from a faculty of disinterested judgment, that space and time are forms of our understanding, and that the world as it is "in-itself" is unknowable. Kant took himself to have effected a Copernican revolution in philosophy, akin to Copernicus' reversal of the age-old belief that the sun revolved around the earth.

This book was released on 2015-11-19 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is called the Critique of Practical Reason, not of the pure practical reason, although its parallelism with the speculative critique would seem to require the latter term. The reason of this appears sufficiently from the treatise itself. Its business is to show that there is pure practical reason, and for this purpose it criticizes the entire practical faculty of reason.

Book Volume 10 Philosophy of Religion

Download or read book Volume 10 Philosophy of Religion written by Guttorm Fløistad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-31 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is a continuation of the series Contemporary Philosophy. As with the earlier volumes in the series, the present Chronicles purport to give a survey of significant trends in contemporary philosophy. The need for such surveys has, I believe, increased rather than decreased over the years. The philosophical scene appears, for various reasons, more complex than ever before. The continuing process of specialization in most branches, the increasing contact between p- losophers from various cultures, the emergence of new schools of thought, particularly in philosophical logic and in the philosophy of language and ethics, and the increasing attention being paid to the h- tory of philosophy in discussions of contemporary problems, are the most important contributing factors. Surveys of the present kind are a valuable source of knowledge of this complexity. The surveys may therefore help to strengthen the Socratic element of modern philosophy, the intercultural dialogue or Kommunikationsgemeinschaft. So far, nine volumes have been published in this series, viz. P- losophy of Language and Philosophical Logic (Volume 1), Philosophy of Science (Volume 2), Philosophy of Action (Volume 3), Philosophy of Mind (Volume 4), African Philosophy (Volume 5), Medieval Age P- losophy (Volumes 6/1 and 6/2), Asian Philosophy (Volume 7), Philo- phy of Latin America (Volume 8), and Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art (Volume 9).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: L'IMPERATIF MORAL DE KANT, QUI PEUT SE RESUMER PAR LA FORMULE "N'INSTRUMENTALISER PERSONNE" PRESUPPOSE CE QU'IL NIE, A SAVOIR L'USAGE INSTRUMENTAL DE LA RAISON. EN CE QUI CONCERNE LA RELATION ENTRE L'HOMME ET LA NATURE, L'IMAGE QUE LA SCIENCE SE FAIT D'ELLE-MEME, FONDEE SUR LES CRITERES D'OBJECTIVITE, DE PREVISION ET DE CERTITUDE EMPIRIQUE, SE CARACTERISE PAR L'USAGE INSTRUMENTAL, AUQUEL LE SCEPTIQUE AXIOLOGIQUE PRETEND REDUIRE LA TOTALITE DE L'INTERET DE LA RAISON. QUANT AUX RELATIONS ENTRE LES HOMMES, LA RAISON INSTRUMENTALE EST CARACTERISEE PAR LA VOLONTE DE DOMINATION, L'USAGE DE LA FORCE SE PASSANT DE VALIDITE ET DE JUSTIFICATION. OR LE SCEPTIQUE MORAL N'EST PAS EXACTEMENT UN IMMORALISTE. COMME KANT LE MONTRE, LE SCEPTIQUE MET EN DOUTE NON L'IMPORTANCE PRATIQUE DES DEVOIRS MORAUX, MAIS LA CAPACITE HUMAINE DE LES ACCOMPLIR. AINSI, LE SCEPTICISME SUSCITE UNE CRITIQUE ANTHROPOLOGIQUE DES PRETENTIONS "ILLUSOIRES" DE LA RAISON EN QUETE DE TOTALITE. D'UN AUTRE COTE, EN OPPOSITION AUX LIMITATIONS CONTINGENTES QUI MENACENT LA VALIDITE UNIVERSELLE DE CE PRINCIPE, ON PEUT AFFIRMER LE CARACTERE SUBJECTIF DES REGLES MORALES, TOUT EN CONSERVANT L'USAGE PHILOSOPHIQUE DE LA RAISON ET SON EXIGENCE DE TOTALITE. CEPENDANT, FACE A LA CRITIQUE DU SCEPTIQUE, IL S'AGIT DE PRETENDRE ACCORDER UNE VALIDITE INCONDITIONNEE AU PRINCIPE MORAL EN OPPOSITION NON PLUS A TOUTES LES LIMITATIONS POSSIBLES, MAIS A CELLES QUI SE MANIFESTENT DANS LA PRATIQUE EFFECTIVE HIC ET NUNC. EN TANT QUE CRITIQUE, LA RAISON PRATIQUE CONJUGUE LA FORME INCONDITIONNEE DU PRINCIPE IDEAL AVEC LES LIMITATIONS REELLES DE L'AGENT MORAL HUMAIN.
