Book Almost French

Download or read book Almost French written by Louis Jansen van Vuuren and published by Jonathan Ball Publishers. This book was released on 2020-10-12 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When he first visited Paris as a young student, artist Louis Jansen van Vuuren could never have imagined that one day he would end up owning a château in rural France. Almost French is the entertaining, often hilarious account of his induction over the past 21 years into all things French: snooty waiters, highbrow countesses, numerous faux pas with the French language and, of course, encounters with the infamous French bureaucracy. Turning the dilapidated Château de la Creuzette into a celebrated boutique hotel with his life partner, Hardy Olivier, required patience and perseverance. Many lessons were learnt the hard way. For instance, four heaters are not enough to hear an entire château and they will blow your power supply. Louis interweaves the stories about his life in France with fascinating snippets of history, culture, food and drink, and tradition. A must for all Francophiles and anyone who loves good living.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is my great pleasure to introduce this special issue of LNSV comprising the sci- tific publications presented at ehealth 2009: The second Congress on Electronic Healthcare for the 21st Century, which took place in Istanbul, Turkey during September 23–25, 2009. Building on the first ehealth 2008 congress held in London, UK, the key topic of ehealth 2009 was investigating a realistic potential of the Internet in providing e- dence-based healthcare information and education to patients and global users. The proudly defined aim of ehealth 2009 –– bringing together the three medical sectors: academia, industry and global healthcare institutions –– was met and made the c- gress a truly unique event. The formal and informal discussions among the conference participants led to numerous stimuli for new collaborations. We accepted 26 full and 10 short technical presentations by speakers from all over the world, having received over 80 submissions. In addition to two keynotes, the commercial angle was provided by invited industrial speakers representing a wide range of healthcare IT companies including Corinne Marsolier of Cisco, Glenn Kenneth Bruun (CSAM Health), Luis Falcón (Thymbra) and Johan Muskens (Philips Research Europe), as well as international healthcare organizations such as Med-e-Tel represented by the international coordinator Frederic Lievens.

Book Administrative Subdivisions of Countries

Download or read book Administrative Subdivisions of Countries written by Gwillim Law and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2010-12-03 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In marked contrast to the United States, with its territorial stability, some countries, such as Bulgaria and Ethiopia, reorganize their regional subdivisions frequently. This large-format reference work simplifies the comparison of decades' worth of data from such countries: "With this book in hand, one can answer any administrative subdivision question about any state or province in the world from 1900 through 1998"--Abstracts of Public Administration, Development and Environment. For each country there is at least one table, and usually several. Histories of subdivision changes and lists of alternate names for subdivisions in each country add to the work's research value. All relevant national and international standards such as ISO and FIPS codes are listed, as well as time zones, populations, areas and capitals for each subdivision. There is a comprehensive index of names.
