Et sur quoi repose son imaginaire dans une société de plus en plus marquée par les effets de la mondialisation ? Pourquoi les romanciers africains préparent-ils souvent une fin tragique pour leur héros ? Questions ambitieuses que l'oeuvre de Mudimbe et sa fiction romanesque en particulier, abordent en montrant les préoccupations socio-économiques de l'Afrique d'une part, et l'opacité, de la politique des gouverneurs africains, qui permet l'anarchie d'autre part. Mudimbe stigmatise les religieux et les politiques qui exercent la politique à courte vue et s'enferment dans les citadelles des idéologies importées. La situation nébuleuse provoquée par l'histoire coloniale et les indépendances africaines truquées ont provoqué la crise psychologique et l'errance des personnages dans le temps et dans l'espace. La domestication de l'espace humain africain et la violation de sa culture par l'Occident sont des causes profondes du manque des repères historiques. Les frontières artificielles de l'Afrique mettent les héros dans une impasse qui créé à son tour l'incertitude devant l'avenir ; d'où leurs multiples interrogations qui fondent la raison de leur quête du bonheur qui, malheureusement, dans la plupart des cas, débouche sur la tragédie. La prise du pouvoir par les dirigeants africains n'a pas résolu les problèmes hérités de la colonisation. Ainsi, la création de mythes de fondation et des identités sous le fond du mimétisme devient le sujet à la mode. Les mythes sont-ils des remèdes à la crise sociale ou des moyens de compenser le manque et faire oublier aux populations africaines désabusées leurs misères, afin de leur donner des nouveaux espoirs ? Secouée de toutes parts par les effets de la mondialisation, la littérature africaine francophone post indépendance, reste cependant très dynamique. Elle recouvre des rythmes variables qui dépendent malheureusement des pesanteurs occidentales. La poussée des identités culturelles, loin d'apaiser les personnages, attisent les passions et alimentent parfois des débats parfois superfétatoires. Au final, les héros dans leur combat pour les libertés et leur quête du bonheur, paient un lourd tribut : la mort physique. Faut-il conclure que la mort symbolise l'incompétence des héros face aux situations socioéconomiques et politiques jugées hostiles et pour lesquelles ils n'ont pas de solutions ? Est-ce le signe de l'impuissance devant les réalités sociales ? Est-ce en fin de compte, l'image de l'Afrique déboussolée et dont le destin apocalyptique a été fixé d'avance par l'Occident ? La littérature n'a-t-elle de devoir qu'envers le passé catastrophique et le présent ? où doit-elle se projeter dans l'avenir, de faire le plébiscite de la culture qui est le lieu privilégié du bonheur partagé. En revanche, la transposition littéraire de l'invraisemblable : le génocidaire, le colonisé et le subalterne comme héros dans la fiction romanesque introduirait une nouvelle dialectique, une autre manière de décrire les faits sociaux afin de démysthifier le tragique et non d'en faire l'apologie. Sylvia Washington Bâ analyzes Senghor's poetry to show how the concept of negritude infuses it at every level.
