Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.
Download or read book Frontiers of Particle Beams Factories with e e Rings written by M. Dienes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-04-24 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is presently the best available source on design and optimization of particle factories using e e - circular accelerators at the same time givingthe physical background for their construction. It addresses scientists and graduate students which is clearly reflected in its pedagogical style. The book aims at summarizing all the currently available knowledge on the motivation to construct particle factories, the design considerations of each of the different machine options including their lattices and interaction regions, practical details of the major systems constituting the machines, as well as a wide view of possible factories worldwide. It is the most up-to-date and unique collection of information of particle factories presently available.

Book excerpt: The week-long Lake Louise Winter Institute starts with three days of pedagogical lectures by invited speakers, and the remainder of the time is for short presentations on current research topics. This year, the theme of the Institute was 'Topics in Electroweak Physics'. The invited lecturers were Drs E G Adelberger, G Altarelli, J Ellis, J-M Poutissou, B Sadoulet and S Wojcicki.
Download or read book B Physics And Cp Violation Bcp4 Proceedings Of The International Workshop written by T Ohshima and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-09-25 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers the first strong evidence of the existence of CP violation in neutral B decays extracted from sophisticated B factories in the US and Japan. It also holds out the expectation of rare B decays and D, K physics in the near future. In addition, new physics beyond the Standard Model is described. Both experimental and theoretical points of view are given.

Download or read book Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics VII written by Thomas Ferbel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The seventh Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics was held for the second time at the Club St. Croix, in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. The ASI brought together a total of 75 participants, from 19 countries. The primary support for the meeting was again provided by the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO. The ASI was cosponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, by Fermilab, by the National Science Foundation, and by the University of Rochester. A special contribution from the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust provided an important degree of flexibility, as well as support for worthy students from developing countries. As in the case of the previous ASIs, the scientific program was designed for advanced graduate students and recent PhD recipients in experimental particle physics. The present volume of lectures should complement the material published in the first six ASIs, and prove to be of value to a wider audience of physicists.
