Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One would think that peace, a term that occurs as many as one hundred times in the New Testament, would enjoy a prominent place in theology and ethics textbooks. Yet it is surprisingly absent. Willard Swartley's Covenant of Peace remedies this deficiency, restoring to New Testament theology and ethics the peace that many works have missed. In this comprehensive yet accessible book Swartley explicates virtually all of the New Testament, relating peace -- and the associated emphases of love for enemies and reconciliation -- to core theological themes such as salvation, christology, and the reign of God. No other work in English makes such a contribution. Swartley concludes by considering specific practices that lead to peacemaking and their place in our contemporary world. Retrieving a historically neglected element in the Christian message, Covenant of Peace confronts readers anew with the compelling New Testament witness to peace.

It does not discuss disputed questions in theology, or issues be tween science and religion, nor is it an attempt to te state the truths Of the Gospel in the terms of modern science. It endeavors to deal, in a direct and practical fashion, with certain hard, painful, and puzzling phases of Christian experience, and with certain mischievous mistakes in popular Christian conceptions of duty and of privilege. It is for the tempted, the unsuccessful, the discouraged, and the weary: for souls fighting for life and Victory under the burden of infirmity and the sting of sorrow. The sermons are the outgrowth of a pastor's experience. They are printed substantially as they were delivered, without any attempt to eliminate their collo quialisms, or to convert them into finished specimens of. Book The Death of the Messiah and the Birth of the New Covenant

Download or read book The Death of the Messiah and the Birth of the New Covenant written by Michael J. Gorman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-06-27 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this groundbreaking book, Michael Gorman asks why there is no theory or model of the atonement called the "new-covenant" model, since this understanding of the atonement is likely the earliest in the Christian tradition, going back to Jesus himself. Gorman argues that most models of the atonement over-emphasize the penultimate purposes of Jesus' death and the "mechanics" of the atonement, rather than its ultimate purpose: to create a transformed, Spirit-filled people of God. The New Testament's various atonement metaphors are part of a remarkably coherent picture of Jesus' death as that which brings about the new covenant (and thus the new community) promised by the prophets, which is also the covenant of peace. Gorman therefore proposes a new model of the atonement that is really not new at all--the new-covenant model. He argues that this is not merely an ancient model in need of rediscovery, but also a more comprehensive, integrated, participatory, communal, and missional model than any of the major models in the tradition. Life in this new covenant, Gorman argues, is a life of communal and individual participation in Jesus' faithful, loving, peacemaking death. Written for both academics and church leaders, this book will challenge all who read it to re-think and re-articulate the meaning of Christ's death for us.

Book God s Covenant with Animals

Download or read book God s Covenant with Animals written by J. R. Hyland and published by Lantern Books. This book was released on 2000 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Genesis to Christ, the Bible testifies to God's love and concern for animals. The same self-centeredness that led to the violence and abuse that has marked human relations also caused the abuse and exploitation of animals. The Bible, argues the author, calls upon human beings to stop their violence and abuse of each other and all other creatures. It promises that when they do, the sorrow and the suffering that marks life on Earth will give way to the joy and peace that God ordained at the creation of the world. In these compelling essays, Rev. J. R. Hyland explores the Old and New Testament and reveals the prophetic voices that called for compassion over killing, and humane concern for all of God's creation.

Book excerpt: Are you experiencing upheaval, and circumstances that have taken away your peace. Or made it elusive? Could the loss of a job, family, business, health, dreams, hopes and aspirations be causing unrest in your live? For those who are separated, going through the process of divorce, or already divorced, this life transition can be accompanied by a lot of questions, worry and anxiety. For the widowed, the event and impact of losing a spouse can make you feel all alone and without help. However, the Lord's will is for you to have peace at all times. He has already made provision for that in his word and in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is typically in the valley; the difficult, insurmountable, and life-altering seasons that the Lord physically comes to be with us- whether we see him or not. The Lord wants you to have, and experience peace - always. God is our source of peace John 16:33 God's peace is not of this world. He is with you in the storm as much as he is present in the still and quiet moments. In every situation the Lord's perfect will, and promise is peace. This manifests in security, stability, covering, protection, and defense in spite of the circumstances. We have access to this PEACE through faith in Jesus Christ. Receive it by faith as we journey through each verse in Isaiah 54. Peace is a person, and his name is Jesus For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6 NLT) This book will exercise your prophetic muscles, to decree, declare and engage in other prophetic actions to align with what the Lord wants to accomplish your life. Peace; the SHALOM of the Lord be with you. Nothing missing, nothing broken.
