Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Weaving together the stories of activists, American Jewish leaders, and Israeli officials in the wake of the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948, Covenant Brothers portrays the dramatic rise of evangelical Christian Zionism as it gained prominence in American politics, Israeli diplomacy, and international relations after World War II. According to Daniel G. Hummel, conventional depictions of the Christian Zionist movement—the organized political and religious effort by conservative Protestants to support the state of Israel—focus too much on American evangelical apocalyptic fascination with the Jewish people. Hummel emphasizes instead the institutional, international, interreligious, and intergenerational efforts on the part of Christians and Jews to mobilize evangelical support for Israel. From missionary churches in Israel to Holy Land tourism, from the Israeli government to the American Jewish Committee, and from Billy Graham's influence on Richard Nixon to John Hagee's courting of Donald Trump, Hummel reveals modern Christian Zionism to be an evolving and deepening collaboration between Christians and the state of Israel. He shows how influential officials in the Israeli Ministry of Religious Affairs and Foreign Ministry, tasked with pursuing a religious diplomacy that would enhance Israel's standing in the Christian world, combined forces with evangelical Christians to create and organize the vast global network of Christian Zionism that exists today. He also explores evangelicalism's embrace of Jewish concepts, motifs, and practices and its profound consequences on worshippers' political priorities and their relationship to Israel. Drawing on religious and government archives in the United States and Israel, Covenant Brothers reveals how an unlikely mix of Christian and Jewish leaders, state support, and transnational networks of institutions combined religion, politics, and international relations to influence U.S. foreign policy and, eventually, global geopolitics.

Book The Gospel According to ANE Covenant Understanding

Download or read book The Gospel According to ANE Covenant Understanding written by Dave Schoch and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-01-15 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most Christians in the Church today in the West do not know about Ancient Near Eastern (ANE) covenants, nor do they understand that the covenants God has made with mankind are based in form on ANE covenants and their governing principles. In fact, the Old and New Covenants are ANE covenants. Scholars and theologians know that the greater understanding we have of the historical and cultural roots of Christianity, we can come to a more accurate interpretation of the New Testament Scriptures. This is particularly true since Biblical archaeology has unearthed information regarding ANE covenants which the Fathers of the Reformation did not have access to when formulating their doctrinal beliefs and creeds. Because the New Testament is an ANE covenant, the governing principles of ANE covenants affects how we must interpret the Scriptures emanating from that covenant. The information brought forth in this volume demands dissemination throughout the grassroots levels of the Church and Christian academia.

Book Covenant and Commandment

  • Author : C. W. Christian
  • Publisher : Smyth & Helwys Publishing, Inc.
  • Release : 2004
  • ISBN : 9781573124263
  • Pages : 214 pages

Download or read book Covenant and Commandment written by C. W. Christian and published by Smyth & Helwys Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covenant and Commandment at first seeks to establish that the heart of Hebrew faith and thought is a vision of God as one who makes covenants - with Israel, with all humankind, and, indeed, with the whole creation. As a covenant-maker, God binds himself through his promises. It is Israel's conviction that God is the kind of God who makes promises and keeps them. This conviction, as Christian contends, has given creative power and shape to the whole of Hebrew and Christian history. As the books continues, C. W. Christian contends that the Hebrew law, especially that expression called the Ten Commandments, can best be understood as a joyful response to God's covenant grace, a response that embraces every aspect of our being: community with God, with each other, and with God's world. Each of the commandments is then examined to discover how it may provide guidance in living unto God and in human community.Covenant and Commandment is ideal for either personal or group study on the nature and use of the Ten Commandments. A study guide with relevant questions is provided for reflection and discussion.

Book New Covenant of Reconciliation Reformed Theology Modified Through Covenant Understanding

Download or read book New Covenant of Reconciliation Reformed Theology Modified Through Covenant Understanding written by Dave Schoch and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-09-14 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the printed form of a Doctoral Dissertation, the focus of the Paper is the application of Ancient Near East covenant principles to exegesis of New Testament Scriptures. This is an important work, for such application demonstrates many fallacies within currently held to Reformed Theology. Application of covenant principles to interpretation of New Testament Scripture is a more complete hermeneutic than what the Reformers had, and must be incorporated into the modern codified set of Biblical Hermeneutics. Because the New Testament is not a testament but a covenant modeled after ANE covenants, understanding what a covenant is and how a covenant operates is paramount to a more complete and accurate set of interpretative rules for comprehending ancient documents. This work is no less important to preachers, teachers, scholars and theologians than is Mendenhall and Trumbull's seminal work on covenants, Kline's work on covenant law, or Sander's work on the law.

Book Covenant

    Book Details:
  • Author : Chris Woodall
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2011-09-14
  • ISBN : 1630879231
  • Pages : 217 pages

Download or read book Covenant written by Chris Woodall and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-09-14 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The premise of this book lies in its title. God makes himself known to us in a number of ways: through the created order, by way of human conscience, the unfolding of world events, the inherent religious need in man, through his written Word, and ultimately, of course, in the Person of Jesus Christ. Why he does so is a mystery, which we can only assign to sovereign choice. The basis upon which he does so, however, is covenant. This being the case, not only is the idea of covenant a valid hermeneutic by which to understand Scripture, but a vital one without which it would be impossible for us to fully appreciate the divine revelation that is available to us in and attainable to us by the Bible. Many Christians will be familiar with the idea that Christ fulfills the Old Testament prophecies and promises concerning God's people in the Old Testament. But when we begin to see this, too, in terms of covenant, then we begin to more fully understand precisely what it was that Christ fulfilled and what the implications of this are for those of us who are what the Bible calls "in Christ." Not only did Jesus meet all the requirements of the overarching theme of the Old Testament in general terms, but he filled out to their fullest potential all the intricacies of detail of each of the separate divine covenants that we find there. The benefits of this for us are beyond measure, the comprehension of them is mind-blowing, and the treasures they hold simply await our unlocking of them. Take the key and peer inside. You will not be disappointed.
