A trio of second-born daughters sets out on a whirlwind journey through the lush Italian countryside to break the family curse that says they’ll never find love, by New York Times bestseller Lori Nelson Spielman, author of The Life List. Since the day Filomena Fontana cast a curse upon her sister more than two hundred years ago, not one second-born Fontana daughter has found lasting love. Others, like her sexy, desperate-for-love cousin Lucy, insist it’s a true hex. But both are bewildered when their great-aunt calls with an astounding proposition: If they accompany her to her homeland of Italy, Aunt Poppy vows she’ll meet the love of her life on the steps of the Ravello Cathedral on her eightieth birthday, and break the Fontana Second-Daughter Curse once and for all. Against the backdrop of wandering Venetian canals, rolling Tuscan fields, and enchanting Amalfi Coast villages, romance blooms, destinies are found, and family secrets are unearthed—secrets that could threaten the family far more than a centuries-old curse.

She explains how to fast and provides important prayer points that are applicable to any situation. Every year, Walley-Danielss home church and its affiliates set themselves apart to perform a progressive prayer fast based on Esthers encounter. Queen Esther declared the fast when she discovered that Haman, the enemy of the Jews, was plotting to destroy her people. It was a time when all came before God, fasting and crying to Him for family members and for breakthrough and deliverance from any Hamanic decrees enacted against them and their lives. Building on that model, this guide is a song of inspiration, an encouragement through each season of the fast. The insights and practical guidelines it offers enable each of us to break through the challenges and difficulties that confront our environment and our spiritual lives. Download or read book Living and Cursing in the Roman West written by Stuart McKie and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-03-10 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on the Roman west, this book examines the rituals of cursing, their cultural contexts, and their impact on the lives of those who practised them. A huge number of Roman curse tablets have been discovered, showing their importance for helping ancient people to cope with various aspects of life. Curse tablets have been relatively neglected by archaeologists and historians. This study not only encourages greater understanding of the individual practice of curse rituals but also reveals how these objects can inform ongoing debates surrounding power, agency and social relationships in the Roman provinces. McKie uses new theoretical models to examine the curse tablets and focuses particularly on the concept of 'lived religion'. This framework reconfigures our understanding of religious and magical practices, allowing much greater appreciation of them as creative processes. Our awareness of the lived experiences of individuals is also encouraged by the application of theoretical approaches from sensory and material turns and through the consideration of comparable ritual practices in modern social contexts. These stimulate new questions of the ancient evidence, especially regarding the motives and motivations behind the curses.
