Book Nonlinear Dynamical Systems in Engineering

Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamical Systems in Engineering written by Vasile Marinca and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-05 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents and extend different known methods to solve different types of strong nonlinearities encountered by engineering systems. A better knowledge of the classical methods presented in the first part lead to a better choice of the so-called “base functions”. These are absolutely necessary to obtain the auxiliary functions involved in the optimal approaches which are presented in the second part. Every chapter introduces a distinct approximate method applicable to nonlinear dynamical systems. Each approximate analytical approach is accompanied by representative examples related to nonlinear dynamical systems from to various fields of engineering.

Book Nonlinear Oscillations and Waves in Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Nonlinear Oscillations and Waves in Dynamical Systems written by P.S Landa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rich variety of books devoted to dynamical chaos, solitons, self-organization has appeared in recent years. These problems were all considered independently of one another. Therefore many of readers of these books do not suspect that the problems discussed are divisions of a great generalizing science - the theory of oscillations and waves. This science is not some branch of physics or mechanics, it is a science in its own right. It is in some sense a meta-science. In this respect the theory of oscillations and waves is closest to mathematics. In this book we call the reader's attention to the present-day theory of non-linear oscillations and waves. Oscillatory and wave processes in the systems of diversified physical natures, both periodic and chaotic, are considered from a unified poin t of view . The relation between the theory of oscillations and waves, non-linear dynamics and synergetics is discussed. One of the purposes of this book is to convince reader of the necessity of a thorough study popular branches of of the theory of oscillat ions and waves, and to show that such science as non-linear dynamics, synergetics, soliton theory, and so on, are, in fact , constituent parts of this theory. The primary audiences for this book are researchers having to do with oscillatory and wave processes, and both students and post-graduate students interested in a deep study of the general laws and applications of the theory of oscillations and waves.

Book Normal Modes and Localization in Nonlinear Systems

Download or read book Normal Modes and Localization in Nonlinear Systems written by Alexander F. Vakakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nonlinear normal modes of a parametrically excited cantilever beam are constructed by directly applying the method of multiple scales to the governing integral-partial differential equation and associated boundary conditions. The effect of the inertia and curvature nonlin earities and the parametric excitation on the spatial distribution of the deflection is examined. The results are compared with those obtained by using a single-mode discretization. In the absence of linear viscous and quadratic damping, it is shown that there are nonlinear normal modes, as defined by Rosenberg, even in the presence of a principal parametric excitation. Furthermore, the nonlinear mode shape obtained with the direct approach is compared with that obtained with the discretization approach for some values of the excitation frequency. In the single-mode discretization, the spatial distribution of the deflection is assumed a priori to be given by the linear mode shape ¢n, which is parametrically excited, as Equation (41). Thus, the mode shape is not influenced by the nonlinear curvature and nonlinear damping. On the other hand, in the direct approach, the mode shape is not assumed a priori; the nonlinear effects modify the linear mode shape ¢n. Therefore, in the case of large-amplitude oscillations, the single-mode discretization may yield inaccurate mode shapes. References 1. Vakakis, A. F., Manevitch, L. I., Mikhlin, Y. v., Pilipchuk, V. Book Perturbation Methods Bifurcation Theory and Computer Algebra

Download or read book Perturbation Methods Bifurcation Theory and Computer Algebra written by Richard H. Rand and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perturbation methods have always been an important tool for treating nonlinear differential equations. Now the drudgery associated with them has been eliminated! This book offers computer algebra (MACSYMA) programs which implement the most popular perturbation methods. Not only does this avoid the errors associated with hand computation, but the increase in efficiency permits more complicated problems to be tackled. This book is useful both for the beginner learning perturbation methods for the first time, as well as for the researcher. Methods covered include: Lindstedt's method, center manifolds, normal forms, two variable expansion method (method of multiple scales), averaging, Lie transforms and Liapunov-Schmidt reduction. For each method the book includes an introduction and some example problems solved both by hand and by machine. The examples feature common bifurcations such as the pitchfork and the Hopf. The MACSYMA code for each method is given and suggested exercises are provided at the end of each Chapter. An Appendix offers a brief introduction to MACSYMA.

Download or read book Hyperbolic Chaos written by Sergey P. Kuznetsov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-03-20 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Hyperbolic Chaos: A Physicist’s View” presents recent progress on uniformly hyperbolic attractors in dynamical systems from a physical rather than mathematical perspective (e.g. the Plykin attractor, the Smale – Williams solenoid). The structurally stable attractors manifest strong stochastic properties, but are insensitive to variation of functions and parameters in the dynamical systems. Based on these characteristics of hyperbolic chaos, this monograph shows how to find hyperbolic chaotic attractors in physical systems and how to design a physical systems that possess hyperbolic chaos. This book is designed as a reference work for university professors and researchers in the fields of physics, mechanics, and engineering. Dr. Sergey P. Kuznetsov is a professor at the Department of Nonlinear Processes, Saratov State University, Russia.
