No association uni formly had the lowest or highest labor costs or outputs in all opera tions. These 12 operations were: Collecting, receiving, candling, cartoning, packing cartoned eggs, coopering cases, stacking, loading out, delivering, shell cleaning, shell treating, and egg breaking. Direct labor costs for collecting eggs averaged cents a case for six associations and ranged from to cents a case. Output a man hour for collecting averaged cases and ranged from to cases. Association truck costs for assembling eggs ranged from to cents a case and averaged cents. Direct labor costs for receiving eggs into plants averaged cents and ranged from to cents a case. Labor output ranged from to cases a man-hour and averaged nearly 78 cases. For candling eggs, the direct labor cost averaged cents a case for five associations and ranged from to cents. Labor output averaged cases a man-hour and ranged from to cases. The direct labor cost of cartoning eggs which includes candling the eggs and placing them in cartons averaged cents a case for five associations. The range was from to cents a case. The aver age labor output was four cases a man-hour and ranged from to cases. The average direct labor cost of packing cartoned eggs was cents a case and ranged from to cents. Output a man-hour averaged cases and ranged from to 40 cases. The average direct labor cost of coopering egg cases was cents a case with a range from to 5 cents. Labor output averaged cases a man-hour and ranged from to cases. Stacking eggs in the holding room cost an average of 2 cents a case for labor and varied from to 3 cents, while labor output averaged cases a man-hour with a range of 243 cases-from 83 to 326 cases. The labor cost of loading out eggs averaged 5 cents a case, with a range from to cents. Labor output a man-hour averaged cases and ranged from to cases.
