Book Cost of Federal Tax Credit Programs to Develop the Market for Industrial Solar and Wind Energy Technologies Final Report to Lawrence Livermore Laboratory University of California Volume 2

Download or read book Cost of Federal Tax Credit Programs to Develop the Market for Industrial Solar and Wind Energy Technologies Final Report to Lawrence Livermore Laboratory University of California Volume 2 written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was made to estimate the impact tax credits (from Acts passed by Congress) would have on renewable energy investment and to estimate the net costs to the US Treasury of providing these tax credits. The appendices to this study are presented. Some investment and marketing penetration worksheets are presented on wind turbines, solar ponds, flat plates, evacuated tubes, and parabolic troughs. A market penetration and economic analysis program with test written for TI-59 programmable calculator with printer is presented. Data on the average $/kWh for each state are included for energy use (70 to 400/sup 0/F and electricity) and energy resource (total and direct solar and wind). Also included is an energy use processing program written for TI-59 programmable calculator with printer. (MCW).

Book The Role of Federal Tax Credits in U S Solar Industry Growth An Analysis of the Relationship Between the Business Investment Tax Credit and Installed Solar Photovoltaic Capacity in the United States from 1997 2015

Download or read book The Role of Federal Tax Credits in U S Solar Industry Growth An Analysis of the Relationship Between the Business Investment Tax Credit and Installed Solar Photovoltaic Capacity in the United States from 1997 2015 written by Charles Alexander Hackman and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tremendous growth has been observed in the U.S. solar industry over the last two decades. While technological improvements and falling costs have played large roles, a federal policy that provided a 30 percent tax credit toward solar photovoltaic (PV) installations is commonly touted as the critical driver in facilitating this growth. The policy is known as the "Business Energy Investment Tax Credit" or "ITC". The effect of various federal policies on the energy sector has been documented by researchers. Yet, the body of literature analyzing just one policy (the ITC) on one energy source (solar PV) is less robust. Additionally, research that does exist on the ITC is sometimes truncated in terms of years of analysis and may not include the entire history of the policy. This paper uses fixed effects models and state-year level data from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the U.S. Energy Information Agency, and other sources to analyze the extent to which the ITC has contributed to indicators of growth in solar PV from 1997-2015; roughly ten years of the policy's implementation and ten years prior for comparison. Results indicate the tax credit has had a positive and strikingly robust effect on solar PV growth even after the addition of extensive controls. Policy implications discussed include the need for continuation of the credit if solar PV's barriers to entry in the energy market are to retain parity with other more "traditional" sources, potential negative effects of the ITC on other energy sources, and impacts of the ITC on secondary outcomes including the price of electricity, CO2 emissions, and global climate goals.

It was prepared by the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) based on data collected and research performed during 2010. In the report, DoE describes plans to: (1) develop its first integrated research agenda addressing critical materials, building on three technical workshops convened by the DoE during November and December 2010; (2) strengthen its capacity for information-gathering on this topic; and (3) work closely with international partners, including Japan and Europe, to reduce vulnerability to supply disruptions and address critical material needs.
