Drawing from a vast trove of knowledge about the world's religious, mystical, and philosophical traditions, he extracts the most valuable gems, polishes them with the revolutionary insights of modern science, and forges a radiant, new cosmosophy--a universal wisdom that honors the wisdom of the universe. The beauty of this mythos is that it, like the cosmos, is not static but dynamic, inviting our active participation and imaginative engagement. This book succeeds in instilling reverence for a living universe and hope for a dying planet. May Cosmosophia blossom and flourish in the hearts of all beings!" --Darrin Drda, author of The Four Global Truths

Book Earthing the Cosmic Christ of Ephesians The Universe Trinity and Zhiyi s Threefold Truth Volume 2

Download or read book Earthing the Cosmic Christ of Ephesians The Universe Trinity and Zhiyi s Threefold Truth Volume 2 written by John P. Keenan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-09-09 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is volume 2 of a wide-ranging interfaith reading of the Letter to the Ephesians—a New Testament text whose words have inspired and enhanced Christian spiritual life and liturgy over the centuries. Unfortunately, at the same time, Ephesians has provided apparent scriptural support to those who would defend slavery, patriarchy, misogyny, and the physical power of Christ over the cosmos. How on earth are today’s Christians to receive and understand such a text as this? Earthing the Cosmic Christ of Ephesians: The Universe, Trinity, and Zhiyi’s Threefold Truth draws upon a broad array of scientific, theological, and philosophical thinkers who enable us both to marvel at today’s ever-expanding knowledge of our vast cosmos and to appreciate the importance of the Ephesian letter in the canon of our Christian scriptures, even while we acknowledge the archaic geocentric cosmology that underlies its claims about the cosmic Christ and reject its accommodation to the patriarchal, misogynistic, and slaveholding norms of its first-century culture. Throughout this reading of Ephesians, we look to Chinese Buddhist master Zhiyi and his “threefold truth” to enhance our understanding of trinity and the nascent trinitarian themes within this letter. As a whole, this work constitutes a new appreciation for Ephesians as well as a twenty-first century apologetic for doctrinal humility and for theologizing within a global theological commons.

Book Earthing the Cosmic Christ of Ephesians The Universe Trinity and Zhiyi s Threefold Truth Volume 4

Download or read book Earthing the Cosmic Christ of Ephesians The Universe Trinity and Zhiyi s Threefold Truth Volume 4 written by John P. Keenan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-02-26 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a Tiantai theology, conventional truth is conventionally arisen, which means that such truth is never set once and for all, but is to be cherished and rethought in new circumstances, whether interreligious or scientific—but always in critical consonance with its ancient embodiments. Contexts shift frameworks, but life in Christ is translatable across cultures. Christian faith and theology discourage the assumption that the point of it can be clearly pinned down. God’s appearance to Elijah out of the whirlwind is an eternal reminder of the paltriness of all human perspectives. Symbolic worlds of faith and wisdom are not themselves finished products. Because it has a past and a future, the cosmos itself is unfinished. Christian creeds ought not be defended as last-word ideological positions and bastions against relativity, but instead recognized in their cultural contexts and affirmed as grammars of communal and personal assent.

Book excerpt: "Theodore Richards . . . takes us on an epic journey . . . It is his journey and it is our journey. It is humanity's journey and though it necessarily includes the misery of cruelty and oppression, there is wisdom at work as well . . . Things could be so different. We wandered away from our African origins so many millennia ago, and though we have become lost and confused, the universe leaves clues everywhere. A new beginning is possible, a new feeling of the interconnectedness of all things is before us. Richards takes us on a journey into the edge of the universe which is the edge of the human being which is the edge of God." -Brian Swimme, author of The Universe Story, for Handprints on the Womb

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Secret Teachings of Eden is one of the most important and unforgettable books you will ever read. The reader will gain insights into the life of the spirit, and the soul in relation to the Cosmos: to re-enkindle his heart, and experience the deep enigmas of existence with the great thinkers of the past. Natural Science arose in the cultural setting of Christian Europe. Those first scientists at the dawn of the modern age, were spiritually trained mystic Monks of Christian Church Natural Science is mysteriously intertwined with the riddles of the Soul, and Christianity. The search for the meaning of life and the soul became bound up with debates over atoms and molecules and ended there. Times changed and the search for the soul was obscured by the uncertainty of the findings of natural science which eventually pervaded everything, including the teachings of Christianity. The Spiritual Body of Man, and his Christology was cast into shadow by the new Light of natural science, and Eden faded into man’s dreams. Is there a secret mystery teaching hidden in the discoveries of the natural sciences that relates to the search for the Soul, Man’s spiritual body, and the secrets of Christianity? Tazo takes up these threads of thought to reveal a concealed Teaching of the Spirit that goes back to ancient times. Follow along as Tazo shows the hidden connection of the Ancient Teachings to unlock the deepest secrets of the natural world. “Our science must lead the way, must prepare for what has to happen with the bodily essence in the future. In the near future, it must itself develop into something which has life in itself, and recognize the life inherent in the earth . . ..” The Temple Legend, Rudolf Steiner May 1905 What Readers Are Saying An abundance of rich contemplations pointing to higher meanings, both for today and for the considerable journey ahead, awaits the reader. - Edward Reaugh Smith, Author of David’s Question, The Burning Bush, and The Disciple Whom Jesus Loved. Book excerpt: Though he lived in the thirteenth century, Meister Eckhart’s deeply ecumenical teachings were in many ways modern. He taught about what we call ecology, championed artistic creativity, and advocated for social, economic, and gender justice. All these elements have inspired spiritual maverick Matthew Fox and influenced his Creation Spirituality. Here, Fox creates metaphorical meetings between Eckhart and Teilhard de Chardin, Thich Nhat Hanh, Carl Jung, Black Elk, Rumi, Adrienne Rich, and other radical thinkers. The result is profoundly insightful, substantive, and inspiring.

Book The Four Global Truths

Download or read book The Four Global Truths written by Darrin Drda and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2011-10-25 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the planet increasingly threatened with catastrophe and perhaps even collapse, many seekers are looking to past, proven models to create meaningful change in their lives. One such model is Buddhism’s Four Noble Truths: the reality of suffering, the root cause of suffering, the end of suffering, and the path to the end of suffering. This fresh, timely book taps and modifies that ancient wisdom to address the pressing environmental and spiritual crises facing us. In The Four Global Truths, author Darrin Drda contends that as global temperatures rise and natural systems decline, humanity is forced to confront the destructiveness of unfettered material progress and mechanistic thinking. He posits a more enlightened worldview that honors the interdependence of all forms of life and aspects of reality, a concept increasingly see as a practical and compassionate approach to averting disaster. Writing in a warm, open style recalling that of Eckhart Tolle in The New Earth, Drda integrates elements of Western philosophy, transpersonal psychology, deep ecology, modern cosmology, and quantum physics to get at the heart of worldwide ecological suffering. In the process he encourages a responsible and joyful—and ultimately healing—participation in this critical moment in life. About the Imprint: EVOLVER EDITIONS promotes a new counterculture that recognizes humanity's visionary potential and takes tangible, pragmatic steps to realize it. Book Dreams Beyond Time

  • Author : Lee Irwin
  • Publisher : Rowman & Littlefield

Download or read book Dreams Beyond Time written by Lee Irwin and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dreams Beyond Time: On Sacred Encounter and Spiritual Transformation offers readers an overview of dreams research as applied to non-ordinary dreams. Lee Irwin describes four basic types of dreaming: normative, mythic, psychic, and transpersonal, and he illustrates each type with specific dream examples. These types of dreaming are then used as a lens to look more closely at additional dream types that indicate dreaming as a process of creative discovery. Through virtual dreaming encounters, latent human potentials are revealed and suggest aspects for spiritual development based on dream recording, interpretation, and analysis. In turn this leads to a metaphysical description that is pan-sentient, illustrating a vivid, living universe of process-becoming in which certain dream types reveal mythic, psychic, and transpersonal capacities as intrinsic to a deeper more awakened sense of intersubjective self-awareness. While dream theories from many diverse authors are explored, the author uses an existential and phenomenological method to analyze dreaming contents in relationship to altered states of mind, trance, out of body and near-death experience, meditation, imagination, and stages of lucid self-awareness. Transpersonal dreams are given considerable attention in relationship to mystical traditions, paranormal research, and the comparative anthropology of self.
