Book Corrosion Basics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Pierre R Roberge
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2018-03-22
  • ISBN : 9781575903606
  • Pages : 822 pages

Download or read book Corrosion Basics written by Pierre R Roberge and published by . This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 822 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides general coverage of the wide field of corrosion control. It is designed to help readers being initiated into corrosion work and presents each corrosion process or control procedure in the most basic terms. Since the first edition was published in 1970, there have been major advances and changes in the technologies used to combat corrosion damage. The best techniques available for detecting corrosion, determining the corrosion resistance of a material, or evaluating the efficacy of a control procedure serve as daily tools for attacking the problems faced by thousands of persons engaged in corrosion work. This book will foster a better appreciation for these procedures. As with the first and second editions of "Corrosion Basics: An Introduction," this third edition, also authored by Pierre R. Roberge, is intended to convey the scope of the field of corrosion prevention and control. It is important to realize the extent of the effort being made today in analyzing and combating corrosion. Much of the experience and many of the workable solutions developed in one area of corrosion work can be used to improve the control procedures of another area. While most people work in only one area of this total discipline, there is always the possibility that a shift in responsibilities or interest brings one to work in a completely different area of corrosion prevention and control.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book makes it easy for you to find what effect environment has on the corrosion of metals and alloys. However, this volume offers information on additional environments including concrete, soil, groundwater, distilled water, sodium acetate and more. ThereAs also updated and expanded coverage of previously discussed environments as well as information on environments which deal with the dairy, food, brewing, aerospace, petrochemical and building industries. The environments are listed alphabetically. Each listing includes a general description of the conditions, a comment on the corrosion characteristics of various alloys in such a situation, a bibliography of recent articles specific to the environment, tables consolidating and comparing corrosion rates at various temperatures and concentrations for various alloys, and graphical information. Also included are summaries on the general corrosion characteristics of major metals and alloys.

Book Electrocorrosion and Protection of Metals

Download or read book Electrocorrosion and Protection of Metals written by Joseph Riskin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008-11-07 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrocorrosion, the corrosion of metallic constructions by external currents, is the most significant factor in conductive aggressive environments. Corrosion of underground and underwater metal constructions by stray currents has been comprehensively studied in the past decades and is considered here only in the form of a review. The primary attention is on corrosion, by external anodic (mainly) and cathodic currents, of metal constructions in the highly aggressive environments typical for electrochemical plants, where penetration of the external currents (leakage currents) from the electrolytic baths into metal constructions is unavoidable.A new approach to the problem of electrocorrosion protection of passive structural metals is considered in this book, keeping the metals attacked by external currents in the boundaries of their passive field. The systems, developed in accordance with this approach, are based on the modification of existing and elaboration of new methods of electrocorrosion protection. These systems take into account corrosion and electrochemical characteristics of the aggressive media (redox potential, conductivity etc.) and of the passive metal (corrosion and activation potentials, current density in a passive state, etc) as well as the sizes and distribution character of the external currents. The book covers analysis of leakage current distributions in electrochemical plants, their influence, methods to estimate corrosion stability of metallic structures subject to external currents and presents many concrete examples of the successful introduction of corrosion protection systems in operating plants. - A new approach to protection from electrocorrosion, taking into account the passive state of the metal in aggressive media - Newly developed and modifications of well known methods of electrocorrosion protection are presented - Systematized data on electrocorrosion and protection of metals, especially in electrochemical plants, allow corrosion engineers, researchers and personnel maintaining the equipment of electrochemical plants to analyze the corrosion state of metallic equipment and prevent electrocorrosion

Book Corrosion Characteristics Mechanisms and Control Methods of Candidate Alloys in Sub and Supercritical Water

Download or read book Corrosion Characteristics Mechanisms and Control Methods of Candidate Alloys in Sub and Supercritical Water written by Donghai Xu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to provide comprehensive and systematic introduction and summary of corrosion characteristics, mechanisms, and control methods of candidate alloys in sub- and supercritical water environment. First of all, corrosion types of candidate alloys and the effects of major alloying elements on corrosion resistance of potential alloys in sub- and supercritical water are compared and analyzed. At the same time, research status of candidate materials, and development and application trends of several corrosion-resistant alloys are summarized. Then, corrosion characteristics of Ni-Cr, Ni-Cr-Mo, Ni-Fe-Cr and Ni-Fe-Cr-Mo-Cu corrosion-resistant alloys, FeCrAl alloy, and Zircaloy are discussed in detail, including the corrosion rate, the structure and composition of oxide film, and the effects of various surface treatment processes, etc. More specifically, it also investigates corrosion behavior of Ni-based alloy, Fe-Ni-based, and stainless steels in supercritical water. The effects of aggressive species on the corrosion behavior of Ni-base alloys are also explored in supercritical water. Readers will further discover the total corrosion processes and mechanisms of typical candidate alloys in sub- and supercritical water environment. Finally, the work explores the corrosion control methods such as ceramic coatings and passivation processes in supercritical water oxidation and in subcritical water, respectively. Future challenges and development trends of corrosion research of candidate materials in sub- and supercritical water environments are covered at the end of this book. It offers valuable reference for theoretically guiding material selection and design and operating parameter optimization of key equipment in the sub- and supercritical water technologies. The book is written for senior undergraduates, graduate students, scholars, and researchers who are interested in corrosion behavior of candidate materials of supercritical water oxidation system, supercritical water gasification system, and nuclear reactor.
