Book Fatigue in Additive Manufactured Metals

Download or read book Fatigue in Additive Manufactured Metals written by Filippo Berto and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-09-20 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue in Additive Manufactured Metals provides a brief overview of the fundamental mechanics involved in metal fatigue and fracture, assesses the unique properties of additive manufactured metals, and provides an in-depth exploration of how and why fatigue occurs in additive manufactured metals. Additional sections cover solutions for preventing it, best-practice design methods, and more. The book recommends cutting-edge evidence-based approaches for designing longer lasting additive manufactured metals, discusses the latest trends in the field and the various aspects of low cycle fatigue, and looks at both post-treatment and manufacturing process-based solutions. By providing international standards and testing procedures of additive manufactured metal parts and discussing the environmental impacts of additive manufacturing of metals and outlining simulation and modeling scenarios, this book is an ideal resource for users in industry. - Discusses the underlying mechanisms controlling the fatigue behavior of additive manufactured metal components as well as how to improve the fatigue life of these components via both manufacturing processes and post-processing - Studies the variability of properties in additive manufactured metals, the effects of different process conditions on mechanical reliability, probabilistic versus deterministic aspects, and more - Outlines nondestructive failure analysis techniques and highlights the effects of unique microstructural characteristics on fatigue in additive manufactured metals

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade, ontologies have received much attention within computer science and related disciplines, most often as the semantic web. Ontology Learning and Population from Text: Algorithms, Evaluation and Applications discusses ontologies for the semantic web, as well as knowledge management, information retrieval, text clustering and classification, as well as natural language processing. Ontology Learning and Population from Text: Algorithms, Evaluation and Applications is structured for research scientists and practitioners in industry. This book is also suitable for graduate-level students in computer science.

Book Steel in Marine Structures

Download or read book Steel in Marine Structures written by C. Noordhoek and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1987 with total page 984 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the results of the third phase (1981 - 1987) of a research programme on the in-service behaviour of welded marine structures under fatigue and corrosion fatigue loading. The programme was undertaken in six EEC countries (Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, United Kingdom) in close association with similar work being undertaken in Norway and Canada. In all, more than 40 research laboratories have been involved in an overall collaboration aimed at generating information relevant to the performance of offshore steel structures and fostering a precise degree of common technical understanding that will encourage the increased use of structural steel fabrications for the exploitation of offshore hydrocarbon reserves throughout the world. The programme has already produced tangible benefits for both the steel and oil industries through the contribution it has made to a better understanding of the behaviour of steel structures in marine environments as well as by providing the data necessary for the revision of codes of practice relating to the fabrication of these structures.

Book Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior of a Mn Ni Cr Steel in 3 5 NaCl Medium and Its Modeling

Download or read book Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior of a Mn Ni Cr Steel in 3 5 NaCl Medium and Its Modeling written by Dhinakaran Sampath and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the fatigue crack growth behavior of marine steel at low frequencies in a corrosive environment under cathodic protection is essential for the design and prognosis of offshore structures. Experimental results demonstrate that the corrosion fatigue crack growth rate increases with a decrease in frequency, and this behavior can be mitigated by reducing the corrosion rates with the application of a cathodic potential. Knowledge of an optimum cathodic protection potential for corrosion fatigue crack growth without entering the domain of hydrogen-assisted cracking potentials is vital. To that end, the corrosion processes within the enclave of a stationary crack and a pulsating fatigue crack under different crack mouth potentials are elucidated through modeling of mass transport of electrolytic species and electrode reactions. Effect of crack tip strain enhanced electrochemical reaction rates on electrochemical parameters such as pH, potential, and corrosion current density at the crack tip is evaluated. The corrosion current density at the crack tip is reduced significantly when the applied crack mouth potential is changed from -550 to -1,050 mV SCE for both stationary and pulsating cracks. In the case of strain-enhanced corrosion processes, the corrosion current density is increased significantly when compared with the equivalent model without considering the straining effects. However, the corrosion current density is the same for the applied crack mouth potential below -900 mV SCE. The crack solution becomes alkaline as the crack tip pH increases with a decrease in cathodic potential. This result agrees with the experimental observation of the minimum corrosion fatigue crack growth rate of a steel in sodium chloride solution at around -900 and -950 mV SCE.
