Book Corrosion Engineering

Download or read book Corrosion Engineering written by Volkan Cicek and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-04-03 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion costs billions of dollars to each and every single economy in the world. Corrosion is a chemical process, and it is crucial to understand the dynamics from a chemical perspective before proceeding with analyses, designs and solutions from an engineering aspect. The opposite is also true in the sense that scientists should take into consideration the contemporary aspects of the issue as it relates to the daily life before proceeding with specifically designed theoretical solutions. Corrosion Engineering is advised to both theoreticians and practitioners of corrosion alike. Corrosion engineering is a joint discipline associated primarily with major engineering sciences such as chemical engineering, civil engineering, petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgical engineering, mining engineering among others and major fundamental sciences such as sub-disciplines of physical, inorganic and analytical chemistry as well as physics and biology, such as electrochemistry, surface chemistry, surface physics, solution chemistry, solid state chemistry and solid state physics, microbiology, and others. Corrosion Engineering is a must-have reference book for the engineer in the field that covers the corrosion process with its contemporary aspects with respect to both of its scientific and engineering aspects. It is also a valuable textbook that could be used in an engineering or scientific course on corrosion at the university level.

Book Progress in Corrosion Science and Engineering I

Download or read book Progress in Corrosion Science and Engineering I written by Su-Il Pyun and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-18 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume of Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry is composed of four chapters covering topics having relevance both in corrosion science and materials engineering. All of the chapters provide comprehensive coverage of recent advances in corrosion science. The first chapter, by Maurice and Marcus, provides a comprehensive review on the structural aspects and anti-corrosion properties of passive films on metals and alloys. These authors look at recent experimental data collected by in-situ microscopic techniques coupled with electrochemical methods. A detailed description is given of the nucleation and growth of 2-dimensional passive films at earlier stages, their effect on the corrosion properties of metal surfaces, and the nanostructures of- dimensional passive films. On the basis of the experimental data reviewed, the authors present a model for passivity breakdown and pit initiation, which takes into account the preferential role of grain boundaries. In Chapter 2, Takahashi and his co-workers give a specialized account on the electrochemical and structural properties of anodic oxide films formed on aluminum. In addition to the electrochemical corrosion-related problems of anodic oxide films, the chapter reviews state-of-the-art research of nano-/mic- fabrications based on anodizing treatments combined with chemical/mechanical processes such as laser irradiation, atomic force micro-probe processing and thin film deposition techniques.

Book Corrosion Science and Engineering

Download or read book Corrosion Science and Engineering written by Pietro Pedeferri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-21 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook discusses the latest advances in the corrosion of metals and related protection methods, and explores all corrosion-related aspects used in natural and industrial environments, including monitoring and testing. Throughout the textbook, the science and engineering of corrosion are merged to help readers perform correct corrosion assessments in both the design phase and plant management phase, and to define the optimal protection technique. In addition, the book addresses basic aspects of corrosion science, including the electrochemical mechanism, thermodynamic and kinetic aspects, the use of Pourbaix and Evans diagrams, and various forms of corrosion (from uniform to localised to stress corrosion phenomena); as well as the protection systems adopted to combat corrosion, including inhibitors, coatings and cathodic protection. Such basic knowledge is fundamental to understanding the “corrosion engineering” approach applied to the durability of metals immersed in water, buried in soil, exposed to the atmosphere, used in reinforced concrete, in the human body and in petrochemical plants, or at risk of high-temperature corrosion. A final chapter is dedicated to the use of statistics in corrosion. All chapters include exercises and practical examples to help students understand, predict, evaluate and mitigate corrosion problems. As such, the book offers the ideal learning resource for all students of corrosion courses in chemical, mechanical, energy and materials engineering at the graduate and advanced undergraduate level, as well as a valuable reference guide for engineers whose work involves real-world applications.

Book Corrosion Science and Technology

Download or read book Corrosion Science and Technology written by David E.J. Talbot and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-11-20 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although they often appear to be permanent, metals are unstable in their service environments and are susceptible to degradation by corrosion. Corrosion occurs when protective mechanisms have been overlooked, break down, or have been exhausted, leaving the metal vulnerable to attack by hostile environments. Control of corrosion is essential in a wide variety of industries. It is of concern to materials scientists and engineers, yet both students and professionals often cannot assimilate the information they need in typical corrosion-related literature because they do not have the specialized background these sources assume. Corrosion Science and Technology clarifies this important background material and guides readers in its practical application. This text integrates the chemical, electrochemical, and metallurgical aspects of corrosion control for application in typical contemporary technologies with economical use of resources. The structures of water, oxides, and metals are examined to identify the interactions by which metals can corrode in natural and relevant artificial environments. The book describes the characteristics of metals and alloys often specified for corrosion-resistant service, and discusses the relative merits of various protective measures and the strategies available to control corrosion. Corrosion Science and Technology profiles aviation, automobile manufacture, food processing, and building construction to show how these sample industries currently address corrosion issues. Written from long experience of both teaching and practice in the field, this book includes explanations of scientific principles and real world applications and case histories. Extensive information on additional corrosion-related literature is provided to guide readers to sources of more specific information. Corrosion Science and Technology gives readers a solid foundation on which to understand and apply corrosion control measures and to comprehend and use information from other sources.
