Book excerpt: L'étude décrite dans ce mémoire est relative à un exemple de transition d'un processus de corrosion en phase gazeuse vers une corrosion en milieu aqueux. Il s'agit de la corrosion de l'acier inoxydable Z2CN18-10 par l'iode gazeux en présence de vapeur d'eau (et éventuellement de dioxyde d'azote). Celle-ci se décompose en deux étapes : amorçage en phase gazeuse et propagation en milieu aqueux. La transition de l'une a l'autre est due aux propriétés hygroscopiques des iodures, de chrome essentiellement et de fer à un degré moindre. Des études morphologiques, électrochimiques et thermogravimétriques ont été effectuées en faisant varier les différents paramètres contrôlant les processus de corrosion : température de réaction (30-100°C), concentration en iode (50-500 mg.m3), humidité relative (atmosphère sèche quasi saturation en vapeur d'eau) et temps de réaction. L'étude thermogravimétrique a été réalisée à l'aide d'une balance sartorius L4201 à suspension magnétique. L'intérêt de celle-ci réside dans l'isolement complet entre module de pesée et réacteur chimique : même les gaz les plus corrosifs vis-a-vis des matériaux métalliques peuvent être utilisés. L'utilisation de cette balance sur sa gamme la plus sensible (10g) a necessité d'optimiser l'alimentation électrique et la mise à la terre de celle-ci, l'isolement électromagnétique et la climatisation de la pièce, ainsi que l'interfaçage avec le micro-ordinateur. Un mécanisme réactionnel est proposé, décrivant les différents mécanismes mis en jeu au cours du processus de corrosion.
