Book Correpsondences for Children of the New Church Classic Reprint

Download or read book Correpsondences for Children of the New Church Classic Reprint written by Sampson Reed and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Correpsondences for Children of the New Church The following pages were first read to the Mount Vernon New Church Sabbath School, and are pub lished in the hope that they may be generally useful. If they are adapted to the states of children, they will be read by them with more or less delight; and I would recommend that the attention be not called to the questions, till the first pleasures of recep tion are passing away, and the book is beginning to be an old one. The questions may then be useful in fixing the instruction which has been received in the memory. Should these Correspondences be found to be adapted to the states of children and the wants of the Church, I hope to be able to add some on other subjects. S. R. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The English Correspondence of Saint Boniface: Being for the Most Part Letters Exchanged Between the Apostle of the Germans and His English Friends Boniface was born between the years 67 5 and 680. If tradition be coriect in making Crediton in Somersetshire his birthplace, his family must have formed the very end of the wedge which the west-saxons were driving into the British territory on their south-western frontier. There can be little doubt, in any event, that the monastery at Exeter was his first school. From the wars which raged over the whole country the monasteries offered the safest retreat, and children of good birth were commonly sent to them for their education. But as yet the centres of church life in England were situated towards the south and east Exeter stood too remote to catch the waves of moral and intellectual energy which they sent forth. It was only upon joining the community at Nursling, near Winchester, that Boniface experienced the full strength of the new forces. Helmuth James von Moltke is awaiting trial for his leading role in the Kreisau Circle, one of the most important German resistance groups against the Nazis. By a near miracle, the prison chaplain at Tegel is Harald Poelchau, a friend and coconspirator of Helmuth and his wife, Freya. From Helmuth’s arrival at Tegel in late September 1944 until the day of his execution by the Nazis on January 23, 1945, Poelchau would carry Helmuth’s and Freya’s letters in and out of prison daily, risking his own life. Freya would safeguard these letters for the rest of her long life. Last Letters is a profoundly personal record of the couple’s fortitude in the face of fascism.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Memoirs, Vol. 1: Journal, and Correspondence of Thomas Moore On his religious opinions I shall touch very briefly. He was bred a Roman Catholic and in his mature years he published a work of some learning in defence of the chief articles of the Roman Catholic faith. Yet he occasionally attended the Protestant Church; he had his children baptized into that Church and when the Head of his own Church was restored to his throne, he dreaded the consequence of that triumph to the liberty which he prized.
