Book Correlation Parameters for Two dimensional Jet Interaction

Download or read book Correlation Parameters for Two dimensional Jet Interaction written by Richard E. Lottero and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem considered is the separation of the boundary layer on a flat plate in a high supersonic free stream caused by the normal injection of a two-dimensional sonic or supersonic jet. Only the separation region forward of the jet is discussed. Data from existing literature has been analyzed to form dimensionless correlation parameters that will accurately predict the force, center-of-pressure, and separation length that characterize this forward separation region. Problems related to the nozzle discharge coefficient are discussed. The functional relations of these correlations with respect to changes in jet stagnation temperature and pressure, nozzle throat width, and Mach number for fixed free stream conditions are also discussed. (Author Modified Abstract).

Book Two dimensional Jet Interaction with a Mach 4 Mainstream

Download or read book Two dimensional Jet Interaction with a Mach 4 Mainstream written by Michael J Werle and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes the results of an experimental study concerning the injection of a gaseous secondary jet into an unbounded supersonic flow field which was uniform outside of a turbulent boundary layer. The investigation was principally concerned with the definition of the proper scale length to be associated with turbulent two-dimensional jet-interaction flows. In support of this objective, results are presented for a Mach 4 test conducted using a flat-plate model containing a sonic secondary jet directed normal to the mainstream. Secondary jet strengths were varied from approximately 0 to 1000 for jet throat sizes of 0.005 inch, 0.020 inch and 0.030 inch. The jet interaction phenomenon was studied using detailed surface pressure distributions measured fore and aft of the secondary jet in conjunction with comprehensive shadowgraph coverage of the interaction flow field. Book A Critical Review of Analytical Methods for Estimating Control Forces Produced by Secondary Injection

Download or read book A Critical Review of Analytical Methods for Estimating Control Forces Produced by Secondary Injection written by Michael J Werle and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem discussed is that of theoretically predicting the normal force induced in the boundary layer separation region immediately ahead of a secondary injection port. Attention was limited to the two-dimensional problem of sonic or supersonic normal injection into supersonic or hypersonic mainstreams. A critical review of available experimental studies was conducted in order to isolate those data best representing a two-dimensional state. The resulting compilation of experimental results was thereafter employed as a basis of comparison for available theoretical and empirical flow models. As a result it was found that analytical means are only capable of rough quantitative estimates of control jet effectiveness and that a more detailed flow model is needed to further explain observed phenomenon. The basic features of such a model are formulated and its conceptual validity demonstrated through comparison with experimental results. Problem areas requiring further research are also discussed in detail. (Author).

Book An Experimental and Theoretical Investigation of Two dimensional Jet flap Aerodynamic Interaction at Supersonic Speeds

Download or read book An Experimental and Theoretical Investigation of Two dimensional Jet flap Aerodynamic Interaction at Supersonic Speeds written by Norman E. HAWK and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-dimensional jet flap aerodynamic interaction tests were conducted in the 8 in. x 13 in. supersonic tunnel at Mach number 3.97 and Reynolds number 120,000 per inch. The test model consisted of a wedge of rectangular planform equipped with side plates and a full span jet slot. The primary data taken were jet mass flow, normal force increment due to the jet, and schlieren photographs. The specific impulse ratios obtained varied from 3.6 at the lowest jet force parameter to 2.5 at the highest jet force parameter. (Jet force parameter is defined as the jet stagnation pressure times jet slot width, divided by free-stream pressure times body length.) For the range of variables covered in the present experiment the jet force parameter was found to govern the flow geometry, including transition in the separated shear layer. Data on aerodynamic interaction in the case of the approximately two-dimensional, sonic jet flap have been collected from four sources. The available data for specific impulse ratio were correlated, mostly within plus or minus 10%, over a hundredfold range of a dimensionless parameter consisting of the jet force parameter multiplied by a free stream Mach number function. An inviscid theory was developed to provide an analytical justification for the dependence on the parameter. (Author).

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by TPRC at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemina tion phases of the activity was transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we have concluded that it will be in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by a well-known publishing house to assure improved service and better communication. Hence, effective with this Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences will be disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. As we embark on this new partnership with Plenum, we also initiate a new venture in that this important annual reference work now covers Canadian universities as well as those in the United States. We are sure that this broader base will greatly enhance the value of these volumes.

Book Shock Waves Proceedings Of The 20th International Symposium In 2 Volumes

Download or read book Shock Waves Proceedings Of The 20th International Symposium In 2 Volumes written by Hans G Hornung and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-01-22 with total page 1740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The symposia take place every two years. They are the forum at which scientists concerned with shock waves present their research. They USE shock waves for chemical kinetics studies, for materials studies, and smashing kidney stones; they STUDY the phenomena associated with flows involving shock waves, such as supersonic flow, explosions, detonations, volcanic eruptions, and, in this symposium, even such with-it topics as impact of Shoemaker-Levy on Jupiter and blast waves in the World Trade Center. They also discover new, bigger and better ways of generating flows at hypervelocity speeds and develop their technological tools further. The international exchange of information is documented in the proceedings volumes, which have become a storehouse of information on the subject, documenting the history of this peculiar branch of science that involves chemists, physicists, engineers, geophysicists, material scientists and biologists.
