Download or read book Relativistic Many Body Theory written by Ingvar Lindgren and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-04-30 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a comprehensive account of relativistic many-body perturbation theory, based upon field theory. After some introductory chapters about time-independent and time dependent many-body perturbation theory (MBPT), the standard techniques of S-matrix and Green’s functions are reviewed. Next, the newly introduced covariant-evolution-operator method is described, which can be used, like the S-matrix method, for calculations in quantum electrodynamics (QED). Unlike the S-matrix method, this has a structure that is similar to that of MBPT and therefore can serve as basis for a unified theory. Such an approach is developed in the final chapters, and its equivalence to the Bethe-Salpeter equation is demonstrated. Possible applications are discussed and numerical illustrations given.

Download or read book Problem Solving in Computational Molecular Science written by Stephen Wilson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For all practical purposes the basic physical equations governing the behaviour of a system at the molecular level can only be solved approximately. The key issue in any reliable and accurate computational study in molecular physics and quantum chemistry is the adoption of a suitable model which contains the essential physics and chemistry, is computationally tractable, and preferably amenable to systematic refinement. The provision of advice on the choice of an appropriate model for a specific problem has so far received scant attention. This issue is becoming acute as `standard' software packages are becoming widely available and are being increasingly heavily used in both the academic and industrial sectors by researchers who have received no special training in the theoretical physics and chemistry that underpins them. This volume provides researchers whose background may not be in the computational molecular sciences with the necessary background to make intelligent use of the methods available by performing reliable calculations of appropriate accuracy and making a considered interpretation of the data so obtained.

Download or read book Condensed Matter Theories written by Jouko Arponen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the third volume in an approximately annual series which comprises the proceedings of the International Workshops on Condensed Matter Theories. The first of these meetings took place in 1977 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and successive workshops have been held in Trieste, Italy (1978), Buenos Aires, Argentina (1979), Caracas, Venezuela (1980), Mexico City, Mexico (1981), St. Louis, USA (1982), Altenberg, Federal Republic of Germany (1983), Granada, Spain (1984), San Francisco, USA (1985), and Argonne, USA (1986). The present volume contains the proceedings of the Eleventh Workshop which took place in Qulu, Finland during the period 27 July - 1 August, 1987. The original motivation and the historical evolution of the series of Workshops have been amply described in the preface to the first volume in the present series. An important objective throughout has been to work against the ever-present trend for physics to fragment into increasingly narrow fields of specialisation, between which communication is difficult. The Workshops have traditionally sought to emphasise the unity of physics. By bringing together scientists working in many different areas of condensed matter theory, for the dual purpose of fostering collaborations between them and promoting the exchange of ideas between various disciplines, a common language has been exposed and developed. The Editor of the first volume in the series, F. B.

Download or read book Reviews in Computational Chemistry Volume 17 written by Kenny B. Lipkowitz and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-05-08 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational chemistry is increasingly used in most areas of molecular science including organic, inorganic, medicinal, biological, physical, and analytical chemistry. Researchers in these fields who do molecular modelling need to understand and stay current with recent developments. This volume, like those prior to it, features chapters by experts in various fields of computational chemistry. Two chapters focus on molecular docking, one of which relates to drug discovery and cheminformatics and the other to proteomics. In addition, this volume contains tutorials on spin-orbit coupling and cellular automata modeling, as well as an extensive bibliography of computational chemistry books. FROM REVIEWS OF THE SERIES "Reviews in Computational Chemistry remains the most valuable reference to methods and techniques in computational chemistry."—JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR GRAPHICS AND MODELLING "One cannot generally do better than to try to find an appropriate article in the highly successful Reviews in Computational Chemistry. The basic philosophy of the editors seems to be to help the authors produce chapters that are complete, accurate, clear, and accessible to experimentalists (in particular) and other nonspecialists (in general)."—JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY
