Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cornwall's Wonderland Joyment I myself found in the strange and wonderful Romances and Legends of Old Cornwall, now so rapidly being forgotten with a remembrance too of the numerous long and involved paragraphs - even pageswthat I skipped, as being prosy or unintelligible, written as they were in a dialect often untranslatable even by a Cornish child, I have here tried to present a few of these tales in simpler form, to suit not only Cornish children, but those of all parts. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cornish Stories Whereupon Mrs. Rogers immediately plunged the fork through the fowl, and proceeded to cut it up, precisely as if her husband had asked for it all. Mr. Rogers was a little man, or rather he looked a very little man. The little hair he had, brushed very smoothly over his little head; with little eyes and a little insignificant nose, and - well, that really was all, except a grey coat, and a white neck-cloth fastened in the smallest of white bows. There are scores Of men inches shorter who make themselves look inches taller than Mr. Rogers looked. Nobody could know him five minutes without coming somehow to speak of him, as everybody else did, as little Mr. Rogers. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Watchers on the Longships: A Tale of Cornwall in the Last Century I'r may be of some interest to the readers of the following tale to know that many of the incidents related in it, highly improbable as they may seem, are strictly founded upon fact. The light was first exhibited in the Longships on the 29th September 179 5, as related in the story. That one of the keepers of early days, who was left alone there, and had not been informed previously of the horrible noises caused by the pent-up air in the cavern below, became so terrified that his hair turned white in a single night, is a well-known fact All the circumstances, also, relating to the little girl who was left alone in the lighthouse - her father, the keeper, having been purposely kidnapped and confined by wreckers - and who was reluctantly obliged to stand on the Family Bible to light the lamps, are perfectly authentic. The noble and heroic exploit of the young clergyman, related towards the close of the story, is so far true, that the incident really occurred at, or near the spot described. The hero, however, was not a parson, but a school master. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. You will inquire, can we believe him in all that he says? This brings me at once to his second qualification he invariably speaks the truth. If he describes scenery to you, it is scenery that he saw and noted on the spot. If he gives little sketches of cha racter, they are sketches drawn from the life. Does this satisfy your doubts? If it does not, he carries about with him some views, furnished to complete his travelling outfit, by one of his well wishers. Look at these; and judge his trustwor thiness accordingly.
