Book Metallurgy of Copper Classic Reprint

Download or read book Metallurgy of Copper Classic Reprint written by H. O. Hofman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Metallurgy of Copper My aim in preparing this book has been to furnish a treatise on copper which will meet the demands of the metallurgist of May. In order to do this, it has been necessary: to present the leading physical and chemical facts about the metal, its alloys, and its compounds which are of metallurgical importance; to record from the Older practice that which is of lasting value; and to give the details of the present modes of operating. Though we have several books treating Of certain branches of the metallurgy of copper, such as the valuable volumes of Peters, Greenawalt, and others, there does not exist a modern book which covers the entire ground as the present work aims to do. In the study of processes there are given the principles and the practice. The discussion of principles is confined to the essential points; for an ex tended presentation the reader is referred to my treatise on General Metallurgy. The examples Of practice are drawn mainly from the United States. The text and footnotes will show that the technical literature on copper has been covered. The details of practice, not recorded in print, have been obtained through visits to and detailed studies of the leading copper smelteries and refineries of the United States; additional information has been available through correspondence. The tables giving the working data of the leading plants of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Germany, and Australia show the extent Of the field which has been covered. Book The Life Cycle of Copper Its Co Products and Byproducts

Download or read book The Life Cycle of Copper Its Co Products and Byproducts written by Robert U. Ayres and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Achieving the goals and objectives of sustainable development requires better information about the consequences of proposed actions. Partial information accounts for many failed efforts in the past. The financial implications for the proponent of the projects have often been more thoroughly analyzed than the implications for other actors. The impacts on biological diversity, or on the social fabric of local communities, have often been ignored. Decisi- makers may also focus more on the short-term consequences instead of long- term impacts, creating negative unintended consequences. It is clear that better decision-making processes are needed. Making better decisions requires identifying, obtaining, synthesizing and acting on larger and more diverse data sets, including information that has previously been overlooked in development decisions. The good news is that better processes are being developed and are becoming available. If the goal is to reach decisions that are broadly understood and accepted, affected communities need to be consulted. Early public participation in defining problems is a prerequisite to effective decision-making. There is no universal formula or checklist of information applicable to every proposed project. The scope of information required should not be determined from the start by small cadres of experts. It is unlikely that any individual or small group processes all of the expertise to achieve the kind of profound int- disciplinary synthesis that is needed.
