  • Author : Sandra Knowles Weller
  • Publisher : Caister Academic Press Limited
  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN : 9781904455769
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Alphaherpesviruses written by Sandra Knowles Weller and published by Caister Academic Press Limited. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alphaherpesviruses are a fascinating group of DNA viruses that includes important human pathogens such as herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), HSV-2, and varicella-zoster virus (VZV): the causative agents of cold sores, genital ulcerous disease, and chickenpox/shingles, respectively. A key attribute of these viruses is their ability to establish lifelong latent infection in the peripheral nervous system of the host. Such persistence requires subversion of the host's immune system and intrinsic antiviral defense mechanisms. Understanding the mechanisms of the immune evasion and what triggers viral reactivation is a major challenge for today's researchers. This has prompted enormous research efforts into understanding the molecular and cellular biology of these viruses. This up-to-date and comprehensive volume aims to distill the most important research in this area providing a timely overview of the field. Topics covered include: transcriptional regulation, DNA replication, translational control, virus entry and capsid assembly, the role of microRNAs in infection and oncolytic vectors for cancer therapy. In addition there is coverage of virus-host interactions, including apoptosis, subversion of host protein quality control and DNA damage response pathways, autophagy, establishment and reactivation from latency, interferon responses, immunity and vaccine development. Essential reading for everyone working with alphaherpesviruses and of interest to all virologists working on latent infections.

Book Successful Drug Discovery Volume 1

Download or read book Successful Drug Discovery Volume 1 written by János Fischer and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-05-04 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume of the book series "Successful Drug Discovery" is focusing on new drug discoveries during the last decade, from established drugs to recently introduced drugs of all kinds: small-molecule-, peptide-, and protein-based drugs. The role of serendipity is analyzed in some very successful drugs where the research targets of the lead molecule and the drug are different. Phenotypic and target-based drug discovery approaches are discussed from the viewpoint of pioneer drugs and analogues. This volume gives an excellent overview of insulin analogues including a discussion of the properties of rapid-acting and long-acting formulations of this important hormone. The major part of the book is devoted to case histories of new drug discoveries described by their key inventors. Eight case histories range across many therapeutic fields. The goal of this book series is to help the participants of the drug research community with a reference book series and to support teaching in medicinal chemistry with case histories and review articles of new drugs.

  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 1997-06-12
  • ISBN : 9780521599498
  • Pages : 364 pages

Download or read book Solid State Electrochemistry written by Peter G. Bruce and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-06-12 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes, for the first time in a modern text, the fundamental principles on which solid state electrochemistry is based. In this sense it is in contrast to other books in the field which concentrate on a description of materials. Topics include solid (ceramic) electrolytes, glasses, polymer electrolytes, intercalation electrodes, interfaces and applications. The different nature of ionic conductivity in ceramic, glassy and polymer electrolytes is described as are the thermodynamics and kinetics of intercalation reactions. The interface between solid electrolytes and electrodes is discussed and contrasted with the more conventional liquid state electrochemistry. The text provides an essential foundation of understanding for postgraduates or others entering the field for the first time and will also be of value in advanced undergraduate courses.

Book Coordination Compounds of Copper II with Pyrazole Ligands

Download or read book Coordination Compounds of Copper II with Pyrazole Ligands written by Y. M. Davydenko and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2024-10-10 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Study from the year 2024 in the subject Chemistry, , language: English, abstract: The monorgaph is dedicated to the development of a new approach to the synthesis of multinuclear copper compounds, which consists in oxidative dissolution of copper powder in the presence of copper(II) halides in non-aqueous solution of organic ligands on air. The difference of the proposed approach from the widely used direct synthesis with ammonium salts is the use of copper(II) halides, which simultaneously act as a controlled source of anions and a primary oxidant of metallic copper. The optimal conditions for the synthesis of copper(II) pyrazole-containing complexes were selected. It was shown that the optimal molar ratio between reagents for the synthesis of μ3-oxocentric trinuclear copper(II) pyrazole-containing complexes is 1:1:2 (copper:copper(II) halide:pyrazole ligand). The final products are formed after the stage of formation of known trinuclear copper(I) compounds. The formation of mainly tetranuclear compounds [Cu4(μ4-O)(μ2-X)6(L1)4] (X – Cl, Br; L1 – 3,5-dimethyl-1Н-pyrazole, 1Н-pyrazole) occurs when the molar ratio is changed to 1:2:3. Most of the first synthesized coordination compounds have a molecular structure and consist of neutral particles. X-ray powder diffraction confirms the crystalline nature of some analyzed samples and the formation of individual compounds. Thermogravimetric analysis of some compounds showed that these complexes are stable to a temperature of 100 ̊С.
