Asimismo, busca brindar una perspectiva integral de los elementos que propician la generación y evolución del conocimiento en la cooperación internacional desde las relaciones internacionales, para así fortalecerlo y posicionarlo como un campo dinámico y complejo que se puede apreciar con mayor claridad mediante herramientas analíticas para el estudio y comprensión de la realidad internacional. En cada capítulo, presentará una estructura semejante en forma de descripción de teorías que son las de mayor relevancia para las relaciones internacionales, de manera que pretende crear conciencia sobre las diferentes visiones del mundo respecto a la disciplina, y la relación que guardan con la cooperación internacional. Este diseño propiciará el entendimiento de la evolución de la cooperación internacional desde las relaciones internacionales hasta llegar al contexto actual de la globalización y las nuevas modalidades de cooperación internacional como la cooperación sur-sur, triangular, descentralizada y no gubernamental/nuevas diplomacias. Se analizará en cada caso cuáles son los componentes más distintivos de cada una de las teorías seleccionadas, buscando responder a las "piezas clave" para teorías; se mencionará a personalidades destacadas en el desarrollo de la teoría en cuestión, o más bien, de las diferentes perspectivas que se encuentran agrupadas dentro de una teoría principal. Finalmente, se citará algún ejemplo histórico que sirva para ilustrar cómo pueden ser explicados los casos de cooperación internacional, en sus múltiples vertientes, por la teoría en cuestión, de acuerdo a sus preceptos.

At the centre of this system are the policies of donor countries and international organisations that carry out co-operation actions. Criticism has been aimed at both co-operation actors per se, and the policies and instruments used by them in recent years. In this respect, it is interesting to analyse the role of the university as an agent of development co-operation. The aim of this book is to gather different ideas from the North on university development cooperation with the South in order to think about what we can consider examples of good practice. We try to offer a comprehensive view of university development co-operation practices in each of the ten countries analysed. We have tried to identify the most important aspects of these practices and to evaluate the extent to which they have met with the objectives established prior to their implementation. Likewise, we have tried to measure to what extent the tools and instruments used were appropriate to the aims. Each author, within their context and from their experience, has tried to answer these questions, and to provide clarity on the existing models, their advantages and disadvantages, as well as specific examples that can clarify the successful presence of activities of development co-operation in European universities.

Book excerpt: This book examines the use of norms by British and Brazilian actors in aid/cooperation in the 21st century, unveiling the politics behind norm circulation. Inspired by a constructivist approach, this research analyses actors’ agency in asymmetric international and domestic environments, in which different norms, dissimilar identities, and opposing interests coexist. Regardless of the discourses and theories surrounding the differentiation between North-South and South-South aid/cooperation, British and Brazilian actors use norms to achieve their own goals at the domestic and international levels. Processes of norm circulation in aid/cooperation have a greater impact at the international level and within the domestic environment of donor/partner countries, than in promoting behavioral changes in recipient countries. However, the content of British and Brazilian norms is different given their historical position in the international architecture and domestic context. The present study sought to unveil the politics behind how actors use aid/cooperation norms in order to achieve their goals in three major instances: 1- the international forums where actors debate the aid/cooperation architecture; 2- the domestic environment of donor/partner countries; and, 3- the domestic level of recipient countries, where international norms are diffused.

Book excerpt: The book challenges three perspectives on the modern architectural canon: explanations that disregard impacts and effects beyond the North Atlantic (monologic), superficial modifications that simply add "Other" figures to the canon, and views that reject the canon itself. Instead, it recognizes the canon's significance in comprehending architecture, while seeking to uncover its presumed Western-centric integrity through a shift from a monological to a dialogical approach. This approach integrates concepts of identity and Otherness as dialectically articulated and mutually interrelated. In essence, the book's main thesis contends that the canon's historiographic construction overlooked the existence of “Otherness”, specifically neglecting the world beyond the North Atlantic nucleus of the West. By examining a global context to comprehend the canon formation, the book proposes a more accurate understanding of the history of modern architecture. Recognizing that this task cannot emanate from a single hegemonic center, it presents the prospect of a coral-type architectural history. This narrative should and could encompass voices from diverse cultures to explore the particular circumstances of the world intertwined with each piece or figure transiently integrated into that canon. As a result, the ideal readers of this book position themselves within multiple settings, keen on engaging in a critical global conversation about modern architectural discourse. It will be of interest to researchers and students of architecture, architectural history, and cultural studies.

As the Obama administration moves into a second term, there are numerous opportunities for U.S. diplomats to coordinate on global health goals with middle income countries such as Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and South Korea; to learn more about how Russia and China continue to build their outreach and assistance capacities; and to strengthen existing relationships with Canada, Japan, and Europe to shore up support and innovation in the global commitment to public health.
