Download or read book Cook Ladder Company No 1 written by Mark Marinelli and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-16 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cookbook for the house or the firehouse, comprised of recipes developed over a 25+ year career as a Firefighter. My first several years I was on the department I had the good fortune to work with some of the best cooks our department has seen. I was able to learn from them a style of cooking I was not familiar with, cooking from scratch with some short cuts along the way. For a number of years, I was the designated cook for the various stations I was assigned to. Once I became the designated cook, I developed themes for each day for one of the meals. I then left the other meal open for whatever was on sale, or whatever I felt like cooking that day. Sunday became Sugo Sunday (Sugo being the Italian for gravy, American Italian for tomato sauce), followed by Meatloaf Monday, Taco Tuesday, Wing Wednesday, Tot Waffle Thursday, Fish Friday (or Fajita Friday when I worked with someone that didn't like seafood), and Pizza Saturday. I have multiple recipes for each day's theme, making the decisions at the store easier first thing in the morning while keeping a variety for the guys (and gals) that I was feeding. Although I greatly enjoy cooking, I don't like to do recipes that are too complicated, so my recipes are very simple to make.

Book Real Heat

    Book Details:
  • Author : Carol A. Chetkovich
  • Publisher : Rutgers University Press
  • Release : 1997
  • ISBN : 9780813524108
  • Pages : 264 pages

Download or read book Real Heat written by Carol A. Chetkovich and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the struggle over affirmative action, no employment setting has seen more friction than urban fire departments. Thirty years of legal and political efforts have opened the doors of this historically white male preserve, but men of color have yet to consolidate their gains, and women's progress has been even more tenuous. In this unique and compelling account of affirmative action at the "street level," Carol Chetkovich explores the ways in which this program has succeeded and failed. Chetkovich follows the men and women of the Oakland Fire Department Class 1-91 through their academy training and eighteen-month probation. In vivid and sometimes surprising narratives, newcomers tell of their first battle with a full-fledged fire, their reactions to hazing rituals, and their relationships with veterans and fellow trainees. Real Heat explores how the process of becoming a firefighter interacts with the dimensions of race and gender to support some and discourage others. The book examines the implications of these interactions for public policy and social justice.

Book Gender and Feminist Theory in Law and Society

Download or read book Gender and Feminist Theory in Law and Society written by Madhavi Sunder and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume chronicles a quarter-century of feminist theorizations on equality and liberty. The essays demonstrate a continuing commitment to feminist method (a democratic notion that all people have a right to participate in the production of knowledge of the world, including legal knowledge) and manifest feminism's continuing critical tradition (namely, theorists' willingness to see multiple factors, including feminism itself, as obstructing enlightened constructions of the world). Taken together, the essays suggest that liberty to make the world is not just a means to an end - equality - but is a substantive end in itself.

Book First In Last Out

Download or read book First In Last Out written by John Salka and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2005-02-22 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it take to lead people into a burning building? How do the leaders of the New York City Fire Department develop so much loyalty, trust, and grace under pressure that their subordinates will risk their very lives for them? As a high-ranking officer of the FDNY, John Salka is an expert at both practicing and teaching high-stakes leadership. In First In, Last Out, he explains the department’s unique strategies and how they can be adopted by leaders in any field—as he has taught them to organizations around the country. In a tough-talking, no-nonsense style, Salka uses real-world stories to convey leadership imperatives such as: first in, last out—your people need to see you taking the biggest risk, as the first one to enter the danger zone and the last to leave manage change—the fire you fought yesterday is not the one you’ll be fighting tomorrow communicate aggressively—a working radio is worth more than 20,000 gallons of water create an execution culture—focus your people on the flames, not the smoke commit to reality—never allow the way you would like things to be to color how things are develop your people—let them feel a little heat today or they’ll get burned tomorrow Illustrated by harrowing real-life situations, the principles in First In, Last Out will help managers become more confident, coherent, and commanding.
