The course is easy to understand, contains a lot of audio, keeps students interested and it is not overwhelming. This course can be used by teachers as well as by students as a teach yourself guide. The book is good for students who already a little familiar with Ukrainian, can read and know some words and phrases. Otherwise "Conversational Ukrainian 1: Teach yourself Guide for Beginners" must be done first. The book contains explanations in English, unit by unit vocabulary as well as general word list in alphabetical order at the end of the book. All the texts and exercises are recorded. Content of the course Units 1-9 will give you grammar and vocabulary necessary to tell about yourself, your family, to give basic information about other people. You will get familiar with most important noun cases. Verbs of movement are also studied in this section. Units 10-13 will let you cope with everyday life in a Ukrainian speaking environment. You will be able to check in at a hotel, to read a more complicated menu at a restaurant and make your order. The material in these units will also let you ask for directions, withdraw cash from ATM, have a haircut, change money, etc. Units 14-16 will help you to learn how to talk about your life style, daily routines, a place where you live. Unit 17 contains material necessary for travelling. Units 18-21 contain most common and useful verbs which will let you widen your speech abilities. How to work with the book Read and listen to the text, make sure that you understand everything. Check new words with the vocabulary at the end of the lesson. Stressed vowels are shown by letters in bold, e.g. Роман where "а" should be pronounced a little bit longer. Stressed vowels are marked in the texts, in the grammar tables and tables with new verbs and examples. Listen to the text sentence by sentence. Repeat each sentence. Do it until you feel comfortable with the text. We also recommend learning first 9 texts by heart. Listen and read the grammar table. Listen and repeat until you remember the content of the table. The names of the cases are not important. You can name the cases by their endings: e.g. "a" form, or "у" form etc. Learn the endings together with the situation, that is, in a sentence. When you learn a new verb, listen and repeat until you remember all the forms. Also listen and repeat the examples. Do grammar exercises. New words are highlighted and can be found in the unit vocabulary. Check yourself with the audio and the answer key at the end of the book. The section "Розкажіть про себе" ("Tell about yourself") is meant to be used with a teacher. Be optimistic, do not worry about difficulties, just move on and you will succeed! Book Fluent Forever

Download or read book Fluent Forever written by Gabriel Wyner and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2014-08-05 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • For anyone who wants to learn a foreign language, this is the method that will finally make the words stick. “A brilliant and thoroughly modern guide to learning new languages.”—Gary Marcus, cognitive psychologist and author of the New York Times bestseller Guitar Zero At thirty years old, Gabriel Wyner speaks six languages fluently. He didn’t learn them in school—who does? Rather, he learned them in the past few years, working on his own and practicing on the subway, using simple techniques and free online resources—and here he wants to show others what he’s discovered. Starting with pronunciation, you’ll learn how to rewire your ears and turn foreign sounds into familiar sounds. You’ll retrain your tongue to produce those sounds accurately, using tricks from opera singers and actors. Next, you’ll begin to tackle words, and connect sounds and spellings to imagery rather than translations, which will enable you to think in a foreign language. And with the help of sophisticated spaced-repetition techniques, you’ll be able to memorize hundreds of words a month in minutes every day. This is brain hacking at its most exciting, taking what we know about neuroscience and linguistics and using it to create the most efficient and enjoyable way to learn a foreign language in the spare minutes of your day.

Book Conversational Ukrainian Quick and Easy

Download or read book Conversational Ukrainian Quick and Easy written by Yatir Nitzany and published by Yatir Nitzany. This book was released on 2019-01-26 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you always wanted to learn how to speak Ukrainian but simply didn’t have the time? Well if so, then, look no further. You can hold in your hands one of the most advanced and revolutionary method that was ever designed for quickly becoming conversational in a language. In creating this time-saving program, master linguist Yatir Nitzany spent years examining the twenty-seven most common languages in the world and distilling from them the three hundred and fifty words that are most likely to be used in real conversations. These three hundred and fifty words were chosen in such a way that they were structurally interrelated and, when combined, form sentences. Through various other discoveries about how real conversations work—discoveries that are detailed further in this book—Nitzany created the necessary tools for linking these words together in a specific way so that you may become rapidly and almost effortlessly conversant—now. If you want to learn complicated grammar rules, or speak perfect Ukrainian, then this book is not for you. However, if you need to actually hold a conversation while on a trip to Ukraine, to impress that certain someone, or to be able to speak with your grandfather or grandmother as soon as possible, then the Nitzany Method is what you have been looking for. This method is designed for fluency in a foreign language, while communicating in the present tense. Nitzany believes that what’s most important is actually being able to understand and be understood by another human being right away. Therefore, unlike other courses, all words in this program are taught in both the Cyrillic alphabet as well as English transliteration. More formalized training in grammar rules, etc., can come later. This is one of the several, in a series of instructional language guides, the Nitzany Method’s revolutionary approach is the only one in the world that uses its unique language technology to actually enable you to speak and understand native speakers in the shortest amount of time possible. No more depending on volumes of books of fundamental, beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, all with hundreds of pages in order to learn a language. With Conversational Ukrainian Quick and Easy, all you need are fifty-three pages. Learn Ukrainian today, not tomorrow, and get started now!

Book The Way of the Linguist

Download or read book The Way of the Linguist written by Steve Kaufmann and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2005-11 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Way of The Linguist, A language learning odyssey. It is now a cliché that the world is a smaller place. We think nothing of jumping on a plane to travel to another country or continent. The most exotic locations are now destinations for mass tourism. Small business people are dealing across frontiers and language barriers like never before. The Internet brings different languages and cultures to our finger-tips. English, the hybrid language of an island at the western extremity of Europe seems to have an unrivalled position as an international medium of communication. But historically periods of cultural and economic domination have never lasted forever. Do we not lose something by relying on the wide spread use of English rather than discovering other languages and cultures? As citizens of this shrunken world, would we not be better off if we were able to speak a few languages other than our own? The answer is obviously yes. Certainly Steve Kaufmann thinks so, and in his busy life as a diplomat and businessman he managed to learn to speak nine languages fluently and observe first hand some of the dominant cultures of Europe and Asia. Why do not more people do the same? In his book The Way of The Linguist, A language learning odyssey, Steve offers some answers. Steve feels anyone can learn a language if they want to. He points out some of the obstacles that hold people back. Drawing on his adventures in Europe and Asia, as a student and businessman, he describes the rewards that come from knowing languages. He relates his evolution as a language learner, abroad and back in his native Canada and explains the kind of attitude that will enable others to achieve second language fluency. Many people have taken on the challenge of language learning but have been frustrated by their lack of success. This book offers detailed advice on the kind of study practices that will achieve language breakthroughs. Steve has developed a language learning system available online at: www.thelinguist.com.

Download or read book Conversational Ukrainian Quick and Easy written by Yatir Nitzany and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-07-02 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS BOOK DOESN'T CONTAIN ANY WORDS IN THE CYRILLIC ALPHABET! ALL UKRAINIAN WORDS, IN BOTH THE KINDLE AND PAPERBACK VERSION OF THIS BOOK, WERE WRITTEN IN ENGLISH-TRANSLITERATION! Have you always wanted to learn how to speak Ukrainian but simply didn't have the time? Well if so, then, look no further. You can hold in your hands one of the most advanced and revolutionary method that was ever designed for quickly becoming conversational in a language. In creating this time-saving program, master linguist Yatir Nitzany spent years examining the twenty-seven most common languages in the world and distilling from them the three hundred and fifty words that are most likely to be used in real conversations. If you want to learn complicated grammar rules, or the non-Romanized alphabet of a foreign language, then this book is not for you. However, if you need to actually hold a conversation while on a trip to Ukraine, to impress that certain someone, or to be able to speak with your grandfather or grandmother as soon as possible, then the Nitzany Method is what you have been looking for. Nitzany believes that what's most important is actually being able to understand and be understood by another human being right away. Therefore, unlike other courses, all words in this program are taught in English transliteration, without having to learn the complex Cyrillic alphabet. More formalized training in grammar rules, etc., can come later. This isn't a pronunciation book. Thus, this book is recommended for those with prior knowledge in pronunciation of the Ukrainian language. However, for those who aren't previously familiar, this book does provide some basic tools to teach pronunciation. You will notice in this program that occasionally the endings of certain Ukrainian words change slightly depending on different cases. However, since this is not a grammar book, this program will not teach you these skills, nor will it teach you the accusative, genitive, dative, instrumental, or prepositional cases. The only thing this book offers are the necessary tools to become conversational in a foreign language in record time. As previously stated, though, with regards to grammar and pronunciation, you are on your own! This is one of the several, in a series of instructional language guides, the Nitzany Method's revolutionary approach is the only one in the world that uses its unique language technology to actually enable you to speak and understand native speakers in the shortest amount of time possible. Book Conversational Repair and Human Understanding

Download or read book Conversational Repair and Human Understanding written by Makoto Hayashi and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-01-17 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humans are imperfect, and problems of speaking, hearing and understanding are pervasive in ordinary interaction. This book examines the way we 'repair' and correct such problems as they arise in conversation and other forms of human interaction. The first book-length study of this topic, it brings together a team of scholars from the fields of anthropology, communication, linguistics and sociology to explore how speakers address problems in their own talk and that of others, and how the practices of repair are interwoven with non-verbal aspects of communication such as gaze and gesture, across a variety of languages. Specific chapters highlight intersections between repair and epistemics, repair and turn construction, and repair and action formation. Aimed at researchers and students in sociolinguistics, speech communication, conversation analysis and the broader human and social sciences to which they contribute - anthropology, linguistics, psychology and sociology - this book provides a state-of-the-art review of conversational repair, while charting new directions for future study.

Book Talking Voices

Download or read book Talking Voices written by Deborah Tannen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-10-18 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in readable, vivid, non-technical prose, this book, first published in 2007, presents the highly respected scholarly research that forms the foundation for Deborah Tannen's best-selling books about the role of language in human relationships. It provides a clear framework for understanding how ordinary conversation works to create meaning and establish relationships. A significant theoretical and methodological contribution to both linguistic and literary analysis, it uses transcripts of tape-recorded conversation to demonstrate that everyday conversation is made of features that are associated with literary discourse: repetition, dialogue, and details that create imagery. This second edition features a new introduction in which the author shows the relationship between this groundbreaking work and the research that has appeared since its original publication in 1989. In particular, she shows its relevance to the contemporary topic 'intertextuality', and provides a useful summary of research on that topic.

Book excerpt: "In the early 1990s, a small group of "AIDS denialists," including a University of California professor named Peter Duesberg, argued against virtually the entire medical establishment's consensus that the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was the cause of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Science thrives on such counterintuitive challenges, but there was no evidence for Duesberg's beliefs, which turned out to be baseless. Once researchers found HIV, doctors and public health officials were able to save countless lives through measures aimed at preventing its transmission"--
