Book CARTOON CONTROVERSY AND RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND EXPRESSION

Download or read book CARTOON CONTROVERSY AND RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND EXPRESSION written by Dr. Prashant Kumar Srivastava and published by KVR Book Central. This book was released on with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Purpose of the study becomes relevant and assumes importance by fact that freedom of expression is most important human rights of the democracy, besides which the society will be monochromatic, but this freedom can’t be unrestricted. One can enjoy/ entertain its freedom up to that extent only until it doesn’t violate others freedom. A cartoonist expresses his attitude towards the various figures, characters and situations depicted in his figures, and thus represent the interests of a society, which are not always in harmony in the government. A cartoonist not only has to be creative, but he also has to attempt to be educational. For the latter purpose the cartoonist should conform to moral norms, which might potentially be in contradiction with his style of expression. The authority struggles differently with cartoonists. In some countries cartoonists are beaten, thrown in prison and even killed. In countries where authorities are unable to discreetly dispose of resenting cartoonists in such ways, other subtly coercive methods are applied.

Book Mapping Controversies in Architecture

Download or read book Mapping Controversies in Architecture written by Professor Albena Yaneva and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2013-06-28 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book tackles a number of challenging questions: How can we conceptualize architectural objects and practices without falling into the divides architecture/society, nature/culture, materiality/meaning? How can we prevent these abstractions from continuing to blind architectural theory? What is the alternative to critical architecture? Mapping controversies is a research method and teaching philosophy that allows divides to be crossed. It offers a new methodology for following debates surrounding contested urban knowledge. Engaging in explorations of on-going and recent controversies and re-visiting some well-known debates, the analysis foregrounds, traces and maps the changing sets of positions triggered by design: the 2012 Olympics stadium in London, the Welsh parliament in Cardiff, the Heathrow airport runway extension, the Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower. By mobilizing digital technologies and new computational design techniques we are able to visualize the variety of factors that impinge on design and track actors' trajectories, changing groupings, concerns and modalities of action. The book places architecture at the intersection of the human and the nonhuman, the particular and the general. It allows its networks to be re-established and to run between local and global, social and technical. Mapping controversies can be extrapolated to a wide range of complex phenomena of hybrid nature.

Book excerpt: "Animation: Critical and Primary Sources is a major multi-volume work of reference that brings together seminal writings on animation studies. Gathering historical and contemporary texts from a wide-ranging number of sources, the volumes provide a key resource in understanding and studying the past and future directions of animation studies. The four volumes thematically trace animation studies from its many definitions, or a lack thereof, to the institutional nature of animation production, to establishing greater space within animation discourse for the consideration of broadcast and interactive animation, and finally, giving greater contextual understanding of the field of animation studies, by focusing on 'Authorship', 'Genre', 'Identity Politics', and 'Spectatorship', thus enabling readers to engage more deeply with the ideas discussed in the final volume. Ordering the collection in this way avoids imposing an overly simplistic chronological framework, thereby allowing debates that have developed over years (and even decades) to stand side by side. Each volume is separately introduced and the essays structured into coherent sections on specific themes"--

Book Born in Crisis and Shaped by Controversy

Download or read book Born in Crisis and Shaped by Controversy written by John R. Tyson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-07-29 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methodism was Born in Crisis. It was a religious response to political polarization, ecclesiastical lethargy, classism and privilege, wage slavery and economic disparity, as well as to prejudice, inequality, and exclusion based on gender and race. Among the crises that convulsed Georgian England were: 1) the debilitating effects of the political use of religious authority; 2) the challenges of keeping faith in an age of science and reason; 3) the decline of “main line” religion; 4) the painful and oppressive impact of class privilege; 5) the inequities caused by dramatic economic disparity; 6) the hopelessness of wage slavery; 7) the devaluing and structural exclusion of women; 8) racial prejudice, and the systematic oppression non-white people; 9) the social crisis caused by religious prejudice; and 10) the debilitating effects of popular culture and its pastimes. The current volume traces how each of these historic crises drew from the early Methodists theological, spiritual, moral, and organizational impulses that became part of their spiritual DNA and left them with family traits that have come down to us in this very day. In a subsequent volume, Shaped by Controversy, eight of the main internal struggles that caused familial strife within the Methodist tradition will be examined and assessed. Taken together, these volumes are like a “distant mirror” with which Methodists and other modern Christians might take a good look at themselves. As such this is an invitation to hope anew and for Methodists as well as Christians of all backgrounds to consider who they are and what they intend be for Jesus Christ in the world.

Book The Memory Index

Download or read book The Memory Index written by Julian Ray Vaca and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2022-08-09 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this electric speculative YA sci/fi novel, the world treats memories like currency, so dreams can be a complicated business. Perfect for fans of Neal Stephenson and Philip K. Dick. In an alternative 1987, a disease ravages human memories. There is no cure, only artificial recall. The lucky ones—the recollectors—need the treatment only once a day. Freya Izquierdo isn’t lucky. The high school senior is a “degen” who needs artificial recall several times a day. Plagued by blinding half-memories that take her to her knees, she’s desperate to remember everything that will help her investigate her father’s violent death. When her sleuthing almost lands her in jail, a shadowy school dean selects her to attend his Foxtail Academy, where five hundred students will trial a new tech said to make artificial recall obsolete. She’s the only degen on campus. Why was she chosen? Freya is nothing like the other students, not even her new friends Ollie, Chase, and the alluring Fletcher Cohen. Definitely not at all like the students who start to vanish, one by one. And nothing like the mysterious Dean Mendelsohn, who has a bunker deep in the woods behind the school. Nothing can prepare Freya and her friends for the truth of what that bunker holds. And what kind of memories she’ll have to access to survive it. “Vaca’s debut is a thrilling and often unsettling examination of the elusive nature of memory and truth. The Memory Index will leave you breathlessly turning pages until its satisfying conclusion.” —Jonathan Evison, New York Times bestselling author of Small World Get hooked on The Memory Index Duology: Book 1: The Memory Index Book 2: The Recall Paradox (coming Spring 2023)
