Book Controlling Cholesterol for Beginners

Download or read book Controlling Cholesterol for Beginners written by Zane Grill and published by . This book was released on 2021-08-12 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it comes to cholesterol, it's important to know your numbers. Hyperlipidemia means your blood has too many lipids (or fats), such as cholesterol and triglycerides. One type of hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, means you have too much non-HDL cholesterol and LDL (bad) cholesterol in your blood. This condition increases fatty deposits in arteries and the risk of blockages. Another way your cholesterol numbers can be out of balance is when your HDL (good) cholesterol level is too low. With less HDL to remove cholesterol from your arteries, your risk of atherosclerotic plaque and blockages increases. If you're diagnosed with hyperlipidemia, your overall health and other risks such as smoking or high blood pressure will help guide treatment. These factors can combine with high LDL cholesterol or low HDL cholesterol levels to affect your cardiovascular health. Your doctor may use the ASCVD Risk Calculator to assess your risk of a coronary event in the next 10 years. The good news is, high cholesterol can be lowered, reducing risk of heart disease and stroke. If you're 20 years or older, have your cholesterol tested and work with your doctor to adjust your cholesterol levels as needed. Often, changing behaviors can help bring your numbers into line. If lifestyle changes alone don't improve your cholesterol levels, medication may be prescribed. GET YOUR COPY TODAY BY SCROLLING UP AND CLICKING BUY NOW TO GET YOUR COPY TODAY

Book Low Cholesterol Simple Diet Guide for Beginners

Download or read book Low Cholesterol Simple Diet Guide for Beginners written by Gerard Hutton and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2024-02-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low Cholesterol Simple Diet Guide for Beginners Cholesterol is a vital and complex substance that plays a crucial role in the normal functioning of the human body. Often misunderstood, cholesterol is an essential component of cell membranes and is involved in the production of hormones, vitamin D, and bile acids necessary for the digestion of fats. While cholesterol is indispensable for various physiological processes, an imbalance in its levels, particularly elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, can pose significant health risks. To comprehend the nuances of cholesterol, it is essential to recognize that there are different types of cholesterol, each with distinct functions. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, commonly referred to as "bad" cholesterol, is responsible for transporting cholesterol from the liver to the cells. However, when present in excess, LDL cholesterol can accumulate on the walls of arteries, forming plaque that may lead to atherosclerosis, a condition associated with cardiovascular diseases. On the other hand, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, often termed "good" cholesterol, plays a protective role by carrying excess cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it can be broken down and eliminated. Maintaining a balance between LDL and HDL cholesterol levels is crucial for cardiovascular health. Understanding the significance of managing cholesterol levels becomes paramount when considering the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases globally. High cholesterol levels are a major risk factor for conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart attacks, and strokes. As such, adopting a proactive approach to controlling cholesterol through dietary choices, lifestyle modifications, and regular medical check-ups is essential for long-term health and well-being. Book LOW CHOLESTEROL COOKBOOK FOR BEGINNERS

Download or read book LOW CHOLESTEROL COOKBOOK FOR BEGINNERS written by Harlow Harris and published by Harlow Harris. This book was released on 2022-04-29 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION These days it seems like the topic of lowering your cholesterol is on everyone's lips. You see articles about it in your local newspaper and ads for medications on TV, and it's become a common topic of conversation. Perhaps you are looking at this book because your doctor told you your cholesterol was "high" or "borderline." It seems that terms like these are thrown out all the time. Perhaps you already have other heart or vascular problems that can be aggravated by elevated cholesterol. Or perhaps you're just trying to eat a heart-healthy diet. As we've seen, there are a number of factors that contribute to your cholesterol and overall heart health. Some of them, like genetics and age, we have no control over. But others we do. When it comes down to it, there are three main things we can do to lower cholesterol. One is medication, and that is something to take up with your doctor. Another is exercise. Studies have shown that regular exercise can lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. My cardiologist recommends 30 minutes of walking a day as a minimum. It isn't all that difficult, but it does take a commitment. The final factor is diet. And that is the reason for this book. There are a couple of things we can do from a dietary standpoint that will help. The first thing, which goes hand in hand with exercise, is to maintain your proper body weight. Being overweight is a known risk factor for heart disease. The second, as mentioned earlier, is to limit the amount of saturated fat in your diet. The good news is that nutrition labels are now required to list the amount of saturated fat, so it's fairly easy to keep track of. But saturated fat isn't the only bad fat. There are also trans fatty acids, or trans fats, which are produced by hydrogenating liquid fat to make it solid at room temperature, like in making margarine. Trans fats are now also listed on the nutrition labels of packaged foods, making them easier to track.
