Book Two dimensional Jet Interaction with a Mach 4 Mainstream

Download or read book Two dimensional Jet Interaction with a Mach 4 Mainstream written by Michael J Werle and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes the results of an experimental study concerning the injection of a gaseous secondary jet into an unbounded supersonic flow field which was uniform outside of a turbulent boundary layer. The investigation was principally concerned with the definition of the proper scale length to be associated with turbulent two-dimensional jet-interaction flows. In support of this objective, results are presented for a Mach 4 test conducted using a flat-plate model containing a sonic secondary jet directed normal to the mainstream. Secondary jet strengths were varied from approximately 0 to 1000 for jet throat sizes of 0.005 inch, 0.020 inch and 0.030 inch. The jet interaction phenomenon was studied using detailed surface pressure distributions measured fore and aft of the secondary jet in conjunction with comprehensive shadowgraph coverage of the interaction flow field. Book Slot Jet Interaction Studies of an Ogive Cylinder at M infinity

Download or read book Slot Jet Interaction Studies of an Ogive Cylinder at M infinity written by Ralph Edward Phinney and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study of the control forces and moments generated by a slot-type secondary jet located near the base of an ogive cylinder in a Mach 4 and 5 free stream was conducted in the NOL Supersonic Tunnel No. 2. The free-stream Reynolds number, based on body length, was held constant at 22,000,000 and the missile angle of attack was varied from -10 to +10 degrees. The jet slot spanned one quadrant of the cylindrical surface and was contained between two low aspect ratio fins. (Author).

Book Correlation Parameters for Two dimensional Jet Interaction

Download or read book Correlation Parameters for Two dimensional Jet Interaction written by Richard E. Lottero and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem considered is the separation of the boundary layer on a flat plate in a high supersonic free stream caused by the normal injection of a two-dimensional sonic or supersonic jet. Only the separation region forward of the jet is discussed. Data from existing literature has been analyzed to form dimensionless correlation parameters that will accurately predict the force, center-of-pressure, and separation length that characterize this forward separation region. Problems related to the nozzle discharge coefficient are discussed. The functional relations of these correlations with respect to changes in jet stagnation temperature and pressure, nozzle throat width, and Mach number for fixed free stream conditions are also discussed. (Author Modified Abstract).

Book CLASSIFICATION OF INTERACTIONS DUE TO HIGH SPEED FLOWS PAST TRANSVERSE JETS

Download or read book CLASSIFICATION OF INTERACTIONS DUE TO HIGH SPEED FLOWS PAST TRANSVERSE JETS written by and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A preliminary analysis of flows past transverse jets indicates that if reaction jet control is used within the atmosphere strong interference effects can be expected. The assumptions necessary and earlier analyses of this problem are reviewed. A straightforward approach using two-dimensional, compressible, inviscid, perfect gas flow theory is adopted. Consistency is obtained in using the following three variables to define the problem: free stream Mach number, design Mach number of the jet nozzle, and the ratio of jet stagnation pressure to free stream static pressure. Many basically different types of interaction flows are possible depending upon the values of the variables. Different theoretical methods are necessary to evaluate widely varying interference effects. Interaction flows are classified, and values of the variables separating the different types are tabulated. Sample force calculations indicate that the induced control force may be several times larger than the pure reaction force of the jet; this is particularly true for weak jets (jets having low pressure ratio values). Three dimensional, viscid, and separation effects are qualitatively discussed.

Book Improved Understanding and Control of High speed Jet Interaction Flows

Download or read book Improved Understanding and Control of High speed Jet Interaction Flows written by Ravichandra Srinivasan and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical study of the flow field generated by injection through diamond-shaped orifices into a high-speed flow is presented in this document. Jet interaction flows have a wide range of applications in the field of engineering. These applications include the use of jets for fuel injection in scramjets, for reaction control of high-speed aerodynamic bodies and as cooling jets for skins of high-speed vehicles. A necessary requirement in the use of transverse jets for these and other applications is a thorough understanding of the physics of the interaction betweenthe jet and freestream. This interaction generates numerous flow structures that include multiple shocks, vortices, recirculation regions and shear layers. This study involves diamond-shaped orifices that have the advantage of generating weaker or attached interaction shocks as compared to circular injectors. These injectors also negate the effects due to the recirculation region that is formed upstream of the injector. This study was undertaken in order to gain further understanding of the flow features generated by diamond-shaped injectors in a high-speed flow. Numerical simulations were performed using two different levels of turbulence models. Reynolds' Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations were performed using the GASP flow solver while Detached-Eddy Simulation (DES) runs were performed using the Cobalt flow solver. A total of fifteen diamond injector simulations were performed using the RANS model for a 15° half-angle diamond injector. The fifteen simulations spanned over five different injection angles and three jet total pressures. In addition to these, two circular injector simulations were also performed. In addition, low pressure normal injection through diamond and circular orifices simulations were performed using DES. Results obtained from CFD were compared to available experimental data. The resulting flow structure and the turbulent properties of the flow were examined in detail. The normal injection case through the diamond-shaped orifice at the lowest jet total pressure was defined as the baseline case and is presented in detail. In order to study the effect of different components of the vorticity transport equation, an in-house code was used post-process the results from the RANS runs.

Book Development Feasibility of Missile Datcom

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the methods available to predict the aerodynamic static, dynamic, and control characteristics of missiles. The methods selected for Missile Datcom development were based upon a criteria which included ease of use, accuracy, utility over a range of flight conditions and cost effective in their use. This report describes the methodology appropriate for the missile designer. An outline of a Missile Datcom handbook is proposed; an automated version is also recommended for development. Those areas presently lacking suitable methodologies are also highlighted. (Author).
