Book Twenty Second Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics

Download or read book Twenty Second Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-03-02 with total page 1039 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Twenty-Second Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics was held in Washington, D.C., from August 9-14, 1998. It coincided with the 100th anniversary of the David Taylor Model Basin. This international symposium was organized jointly by the Office of Naval Research (Mechanics and Energy Conversion S&T Division), the National Research Council (Naval Studies Board), and the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (David Taylor Model Basin). This biennial symposium promotes the technical exchange of naval research developments of common interest to all the countries of the world. The forum encourages both formal and informal discussion of the presented papers, and the occasion provides an opportunity for direct communication between international peers.

Book Numerical Methods for Seakeeping Problems

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Seakeeping Problems written by Bettar Ould el Moctar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-19 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book describes currently applied and newly developed advanced numerical methods for wave-induced ship motions and loads. Besides well-established computational methods based on strip theory, panel methods and finite volume methods for unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations (URANS), recent advances like a fully nonlinear Rankine panel method, URANS calculations including elastic hull deformations, and an improved method to predict added resistance in waves are explained in detail. Furthermore, statistical methods to assess extreme motions and loads are described both for linear and nonlinear responses in a stationary seaway as well as during long-term ship operations. Results of motions and loads, computed using the various methods, are compared with each other and with results of model experiments. Introductory chapters on fluid dynamics, motions of rigid and elastic ship hulls, numerical methods to compute fluid flows associated with wind waves, and the development and simulation of seaways complement the volume. The book will be of interest to post-graduate students, PhD candidates, as well as engineers in the field of naval architecture, ocean, and marine engineering.

Book Ship Hyrodynamics Water Waves and Asymptotics

Download or read book Ship Hyrodynamics Water Waves and Asymptotics written by F. Ursell and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 976 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume I: Ship Hydrodynamics: This work is mainly concerned with ships at zero forward speed. It includes the author's pioneering work on the frequency dependence of virtual mass and damping, and his contributions to such topics as slender-body theory, decay of the free motion of a floating body, diffraction of head seas, the Kelvin shipwave pattern, and the analytic form of the Kelvin wave source. Linear Theory of Water Waves: Scattering of water waves by bodies in the free surface, edge waves and trapped modes, short-wave and long-wave asymptotics relating to floating bodies, irregular wavenumbers in the solution of the integral equations of wave-wave theory.Volume II: Aerodynamics and Acoustics: Rigorous foundation of short-wave asymptotics, irregular values, trapped modes. Mathematical Methods: Asymptotics of integrals involving a large parameter: Method of Steepest Descents for 2 nearly coincident saddle points and for many nearly coincident saddle points, for Hilbert transforms, and for Legendre functions. Oceanography: Contains the earliest work on the propagation of ocean waves and the ocean-wave spectrum. Review of the early theories of wave generation by wind.

Book Advances in Hydroscience

Download or read book Advances in Hydroscience written by Ven Te Chow and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Hydroscience, Volume 9 – 1973 covers topics on the progress in hydrosystems. The book presents articles on the expanding role of computers and hybrid computers as practical tools to solve a variety of problems occurring in the study of hydrosystems; ship-generated waves; and the classical theoretical development in the field of wave forces on structures. The text also includes articles on the dynamics of structure-fluid systems; the various aspects of two-phase flow in porous media; and nonlinear hydrologic analysis. The book will prove invaluable to ship architects, navigation-canal designers, agricultural engineers, civil engineers, hydrologists, hydroscientists, and agronomists.
