Book Calderas and Ignimbrites of the Central Sector of the Mexican Volcanic Belt

Download or read book Calderas and Ignimbrites of the Central Sector of the Mexican Volcanic Belt written by Gerardo J. Aguirre-Diaz and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2018-06-01 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mexican Volcanic Belt is a complex continental-margin volcanic province that crosses central Mexico from the Pacific coast to the Gulf of Mexico coast and forms part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. The book focuses on the calderas in the central portion of this belt, where calderas are more abundant and less well known than those in the eastern and western sectors of the province. Many caldera descriptions are published here for the first time. The calderas and related ignimbrites cover a wide span in time and space, with a Miocene-Pliocene age range. Very interesting magmatic and volcanic processes occur in each particular caldera and each caldera-ignimbrite description is unique. This book gives a description of these various processes and aligns them with what is known globally and provides geoscientists with a better understanding of the regional context of the calderas in the Mexican Volcanic Belt. Describes in detail the large range in textures and compositions of ignimbrites and includes new information about calderas in Mexico Provides a geologic map and stratigraphic type sections of the ignimbrites and associated calderas Summarizes over 20 years of research by the most recognized expert on calderas in Mexico - his expertise on the subject is well recognized internationally

Book Orogenic Andesites and Crustal Growth

Download or read book Orogenic Andesites and Crustal Growth written by A. Gómez-Tuena and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2014-01-24 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orogenic andesites have long intrigued scientists because of their remarkable compositional similarities to the continental crust. The significance of orogenic andesites as proxies to continental crust formation has been recognized for over 30 years, but no consensus model of andesite genesis exists. Much of the controversy revolves around whether orogenic andesites are primary mantle melts of slab and mantle materials, or instead evolve from basaltic mantle melts at shallower crustal levels. In three sections, this book provides an overview of andesite genesis at convergent margins that focuses on the slab–mantle interaction, crustal processing and andesite evolution through the life of volcanic arcs. Without favouring a particular view, the books aims to engender cross-fertilization and discussion that will smooth the pathway towards a holistic communal model of andesite petrogenesis and its role within the broader geochemical cycles of the Earth.

  • Release : 2021-10-26
  • ISBN : 111947325X
  • Pages : 436 pages

Download or read book Magma Redox Geochemistry written by Roberto Moretti and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-10-26 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores the many facets of redox exchanges that drive magma's behavior and evolution, from the origin of the Earth until today The redox state is one of the master variables behind the Earth's forming processes, which at depth concern magma as the major transport agent. Understanding redox exchanges in magmas is pivotal for reconstructing the history and compositional make-up of our planet, for exploring its mineral resources, and for monitoring and forecasting volcanic activity. Magma Redox Geochemistry describes the multiple facets of redox reactions in the magmatic realm and presents experimental results, theoretical approaches, and unconventional and novel techniques. Volume highlights include: Redox state and oxygen fugacity: so close, so far Redox processes from Earth’s accretion to global geodynamics Redox evolution from the magma source to volcanic emissions Redox characterization of elements and their isotopes The American Geophysical Union promotes discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity. Its publications disseminate scientific knowledge and provide resources for researchers, students, and professionals.

Book Road from Geochemistry to Geochemometrics

Download or read book Road from Geochemistry to Geochemometrics written by Surendra P. Verma and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 669 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights major problems in the statistical analysis of compositions that have been known for over a century, as well as the corresponding solutions that have been put forward by specialists over the past 30 years. The basic assumptions of normality or multi-normality are pointed out and methods to test and achieve them are also covered. The conventional major and trace element geochemistry and modeling equations are discussed, and are followed by a more sophisticated multidimensional approach to data handling. The book’s main focus is on the use of statistical techniques to facilitate data interpretation. It also highlights the classification (or nomenclature) and tectonic discrimination aspects for both igneous and sedimentary rocks. The book concludes by discussing computer programs that are helping pave the way from geochemistry to geochemometrics. Written by a leading expert in the area of geochemistry, it offers a valuable guide for students and professionals in the area.
