Book Analyse et approximation num rique de syst mes hyperboliques de lois de conservation avec termes sources

Download or read book Analyse et approximation num rique de syst mes hyperboliques de lois de conservation avec termes sources written by Laurent Emmanuel Gosse and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Approximation de probl mes hyperboliques non lin aires quations de Hamilton Jacobi et applications written by Philippe Hoch (mathématicien).) and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Bogoliubov de Gennes Method and Its Applications

Download or read book Bogoliubov de Gennes Method and Its Applications written by Jian-Xin Zhu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to provide an elementary yet systematic description of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) equations, their unique symmetry properties and their relation to Green’s function theory. Specifically, it introduces readers to the supercell technique for the solutions of the BdG equations, as well as other related techniques for more rapidly solving the equations in practical applications. The BdG equations are derived from a microscopic model Hamiltonian with an effective pairing interaction and fully capture the local electronic structure through self-consistent solutions via exact diagonalization. This approach has been successfully generalized to study many aspects of conventional and unconventional superconductors with inhomogeneities – including defects, disorder or the presence of a magnetic field – and becomes an even more attractive choice when the first-principles information of a typical superconductor is incorporated via the construction of a low-energy tight-binding model. Further, the lattice BdG approach is essential when theoretical results for local electronic states around such defects are compared with the scanning tunneling microscopy measurements. Altogether, these lectures provide a timely primer for graduate students and non-specialist researchers, while also offering a useful reference guide for experts in the field.

Book Geometric Properties of Banach Spaces and Nonlinear Iterations

Download or read book Geometric Properties of Banach Spaces and Nonlinear Iterations written by Charles Chidume and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-27 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of this monograph fall within the general area of nonlinear functional analysis and applications. We focus on an important topic within this area: geometric properties of Banach spaces and nonlinear iterations, a topic of intensive research e?orts, especially within the past 30 years, or so. In this theory, some geometric properties of Banach spaces play a crucial role. In the ?rst part of the monograph, we expose these geometric properties most of which are well known. As is well known, among all in?nite dim- sional Banach spaces, Hilbert spaces have the nicest geometric properties. The availability of the inner product, the fact that the proximity map or nearest point map of a real Hilbert space H onto a closed convex subset K of H is Lipschitzian with constant 1, and the following two identities 2 2 2 ||x+y|| =||x|| +2 x,y +||y|| , (?) 2 2 2 2 ||?x+(1??)y|| = ?||x|| +(1??)||y|| ??(1??)||x?y|| , (??) which hold for all x,y? H, are some of the geometric properties that char- terize inner product spaces and also make certain problems posed in Hilbert spaces more manageable than those in general Banach spaces. However, as has been rightly observed by M. Hazewinkel, “... many, and probably most, mathematical objects and models do not naturally live in Hilbert spaces”. Consequently, toextendsomeoftheHilbertspacetechniquestomoregeneral Banach spaces, analogues of the identities (?) and (??) have to be developed.

Book Finite Volumes for Complex Applications IX Methods Theoretical Aspects Examples

Download or read book Finite Volumes for Complex Applications IX Methods Theoretical Aspects Examples written by Robert Klöfkorn and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-09 with total page 727 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of the 9th conference on "Finite Volumes for Complex Applications" (Bergen, June 2020) are structured in two volumes. The first volume collects the focused invited papers, as well as the reviewed contributions from internationally leading researchers in the field of analysis of finite volume and related methods. Topics covered include convergence and stability analysis, as well as investigations of these methods from the point of view of compatibility with physical principles. Altogether, a rather comprehensive overview is given on the state of the art in the field. The properties of the methods considered in the conference give them distinguished advantages for a number of applications. These include fluid dynamics, magnetohydrodynamics, structural analysis, nuclear physics, semiconductor theory, carbon capture utilization and storage, geothermal energy and further topics. The second volume covers reviewed contributions reporting successful applications of finite volume and related methods in these fields. The finite volume method in its various forms is a space discretization technique for partial differential equations based on the fundamental physical principle of conservation. Many finite volume methods preserve further qualitative or asymptotic properties, including maximum principles, dissipativity, monotone decay of free energy, and asymptotic stability, making the finite volume methods compatible discretization methods, which preserve qualitative properties of continuous problems at the discrete level. This structural approach to the discretization of partial differential equations becomes particularly important for multiphysics and multiscale applications. The book is a valuable resource for researchers, PhD and master’s level students in numerical analysis, scientific computing and related fields such as partial differential equations, as well as engineers working in numerical modeling and simulations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a fascinating story of the long life and great accomplishments of Jacques Hadamard (1865-1963), who was once called 'the living legend of mathematics'. As one of the last universal mathematicians, Hadamard's contributions to mathematics are landmarks in various fields. His life is linked with world history of the 20th century in a dramatic way. This work provides an inspiring view of the development of various branches of mathematics during the 19th and 20th centuries.Part I of the book portrays Hadamard's family, childhood and student years, scientific triumphs, and his personal life and trials during the first two world wars. The story is told of his involvement in the Dreyfus affair and his subsequent fight for justice and human rights. Also recounted are Hadamard's worldwide travels, his famous seminar, his passion for botany, his home orchestra, where he played the violin with Einstein, and his interest in the psychology of mathematical creativity. Hadamard's life is described in a readable and inviting way.The authors humorously weave throughout the text his jokes and the myths about him. They also movingly recount the tragic side of his life. Stories about his relatives and friends, and old letters and documents create an authentic and colorful picture. The book contains over 300 photographs and illustrations. Part II of the book includes a lucid overview of Hadamard's enormous work, spanning over six decades. The authors do an excellent job of connecting his results to current concerns. While the book is accessible to beginners, it also provides rich information of interest to experts. Vladimir Mazya and Tatyana Shaposhnikova were the 2003 laureates of the Insitut de France's Prix Alfred Verdaguer. One or more prizes are awarded each year, based on suggestions from the Academie francaise, the Academie de sciences, and the Academie de beaux-arts, for the most remarkable work in the arts, literature, and the sciences. In 2003, the award for excellence was granted in recognition of Mazya and Shaposhnikova's book, ""Jacques Hadamard, A Universal Mathematician"", which is both an historical book about a great citizen and a scientific book about a great mathematician.

Book Abstract Differential Equations

Download or read book Abstract Differential Equations written by Samuel Zaidman and published by San Francisco : Pitman Advanced Pub. Program. This book was released on 1979 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with linear differential equations in Banach and Hilbert spaces whose coefficients are linear unbounded operators. Looking for examples or applications, the most natural ones are found in the theory of partial differential equations: if to one of the variables is given a privilegiate position and all the others are put together obtains 'at once' an ordinary 'differential' equation with respect to the variable. Adding boundary conditions in order to ensure definiteness of the solutions can often be translated in terms of considering solutions in some convenient linear--often normed--function spaces.

Book Non Euclidean Geometry in the Theory of Automorphic Functions

Download or read book Non Euclidean Geometry in the Theory of Automorphic Functions written by Jacques Hadamard and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the English translation of a volume originally published only in Russian and now out of print. The book was written by Jacques Hadamard on the work of Poincare. Poincare's creation of a theory of automorphic functions in the early 1880s was one of the most significant mathematical achievements of the nineteenth century. It directly inspired the uniformization theorem, led to a class of functions adequate to solve all linear ordinary differential equations, and focused attention on a large new class of discrete groups. It was the first significant application of non-Euclidean geometry. This unique exposition by Hadamard offers a fascinating and intuitive introduction to the subject of automorphic functions and illuminates its connection to differential equations, a connection not often found in other texts.
