Book Handbook of Ferroalloys

Download or read book Handbook of Ferroalloys written by Johan Basson and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-05-04 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High carbon ferrochrome is one of the most common ferroalloys produced and is almost exclusively used in the production of stainless steel and high chromium steels. Production takes place primarily in countries with substantial chromite ore supply. Relatively cheap electricity and reductants also contribute to the viability of high carbon ferrochrome. The most common production technology utilized is submerged arc smelting in AC furnaces, although open arc smelting in DC furnaces is becoming increasingly common. A more advanced technology route that includes a prereduction step is only utilized at significant scale by one producer. Production processes have become more energy and metallurgically efficient by utilizing advanced processes such as prereduction, preheating, agglomeration of ore, and CO gas utilization. Recently installed plants display manageable risks in terms of environmental pollution and occupational health.

Book Chromium and Chromium Alloys

Download or read book Chromium and Chromium Alloys written by D. J. Maykuth and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Various alloying additions have been discovered which render unalloyed chromium much less susceptible to low-temperature embrittlement as well as to nitridation in air at elevated temperatures. These include additions of the Group IIIA metals, magnesia, and carbides based on the Groups IVA and VA metals. Of these additions, only the carbides contribute significantly to the hot strengthening of chromium. The combination of selected carbides and solid-solution-strengthening elements such as tungsten, molybdenum, and/or tantalum, has resulted in experimental alloys which retain useful strengths at temperatures through 1316 C (2400 F). These high strengths are achieved at some sacrifice in the low-temperature ductility of chromium. Also, despite the improvements afforded in the oxidation and nitridation resistance of chromium through alloying, no alloys are available which are capable of service in long-time exposures in air above 982 C (1800 F) without suffering some property degradation.

Book Nickel and Chromium Plating

Download or read book Nickel and Chromium Plating written by J. K. Dennis and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nickel and Chromium Plating, Second Edition, does not merely update the first edition but also places additional emphasis on certain methods that have achieved increased industrial use in the 14 years since the first edition was published. The book begins by tracing the history of nickel and chromium plating. This is followed by a discussion of the electrochemistry of electrodeposition from aqueous electrolyte solutions. Separate chapters cover topics such as autocatalytic (electroless) nickel deposition; nickel plating onto aluminum and other difficult substrates; plating onto plastics and high-speed plating; the deposition of various nickel alloys for decorative and functional applications; composite coatings; and tampon (brush) plating. This book will be helpful to those new to the plating industry; those experienced in the industry will find that this revised version enables them to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in this specialized technology.
