Book excerpt: Engendrées par les outils de travail ou les moyens de transport, les vibrations mécaniques constituent une nuisance qui dégrade le confort, interfère avec les activités et, dans certains cas, compromet la sante et la sécurité de millions de personnes. Ce mémoire sur la prévention des vibrations industrielles présente un ensemble d'études qui peuvent être regroupées selon trois thèmes principaux : 1. les effets à court terme des vibrations de basse et moyenne fréquences sur l'homme. Les expériences réalisées en laboratoire sur simulateur de vibrations ont permis de préciser les courbes de sensibilité de sujets assis en fonction de la fréquence et de la direction des stimulations. Les résultats indiquent que les méthodes basées sur la combinaison des fréquences et des directions sont plus appropriées pour évaluer les vibrations complexes. 2. l'évaluation de la contrainte vibratoire dans des situations industrielles. On a mesuré l'environnement vibratoire au poste de conduite de 70 engins de chantier, 15 tracteurs routiers et une quarantaine de chariots automoteurs. Trop souvent, les sièges suspendus s'avèrent inadaptés pour réduire les vibrations transmises par le plancher. Pour améliorer cette situation, des codes d'essai de sièges ont été élaborés et vont l'être encore. 3. la recherche de solutions technologiques peut réduire les effets des vibrations sur l'homme. Ce thème concerne la réduction de l'intensité des vibrations par l'introduction de systèmes de suspension et par l'amélioration de l'ergonomie des postes de travail et des machines. C’est ainsi qu'une série d'expériences en laboratoire sur simulateur a permis d'optimiser les principales caractéristiques dimensionnelles d'un siège de tracteur agricole. En conclusion, ce mémoire trace les grandes lignes d'un programme à moyen terme qui vise essentiellement à l'élaboration de modèles pour prédire la contrainte vibratoire dans des environnements SPE

This publication describes the contribution of insects to food security and examines future prospects for raising insects at a commercial scale to improve food and feed production, diversify diets, and support livelihoods in both developing and developed countries. It shows the many traditional and potential new uses of insects for direct human consumption and the opportunities for and constraints to farming them for food and feed. It examines the body of research on issues such as insect nutrition and food safety, the use of insects as animal feed, and the processing and preservation of insects and their products. It highlights the need to develop a regulatory framework to govern the use of insects for food security. And it presents case studies and examples from around the world. Edible insects are a promising alternative to the conventional production of meat, either for direct human consumption or for indirect use as feedstock. To fully realise this potential, much work needs to be done by a wide range of stakeholders. This publication will boost awareness of the many valuable roles that insects play in sustaining nature and human life, and it will stimulate debate on the expansion of the use of insects as food and feed.
