Book excerpt: Ce mémoire, qui traite les aspects structuraux et thermodynamiques des métaux alcalins et des métaux de transition liquides, contient 3 chapitres. Dans le premier, on effectue une analyse du rôle des sytèmes de références sur la détermination, à l'orde zéro, des propriétés structurales et thermodynamiques de ces métaux liquides. Dans le second, on tient compte du gaz d'électrons libres, ainsi que des électrons d dans les métaux de transition, pour déterminer le potentiel interionique qui permet de calculer le facteur de structure. Dans le troisième chapitre, on rassemble les résultats précédents pour calculer l'énergie libre, au moyen de la méthode variationnelle de Gibbs-Bogoliubov, et déduire les diverses grandeurs thermodynamiques. Bien que l'allure des courbes du facteur de structure soit généralement déterminée par les interactions du type sphères dures (HS), on a envisagé que le modèle de plasma à un composant (OCP) pouvait également décrire la structure de certains liquides métalliques. Ici nous avons comparé à l'expérience les résultats des propriétés thermodynamiques des métaux alcalins et des métaux de transition, issus des modèles HS et OCP. Nous avons également proposé une expression analytique du facteur de structure de l'OCP qui reproduit correctement le premier pic. Après avoir rappelé le calcul du potentiel interionique des métaux simples, nous avons entrepris celui des métaux de transition. Nous avons utilisé le traitement de Wills et Harrison dans lequel les effets d'hybridation sont inclus en transférant une partie des électrons de la bande d dans la bande de conduction. La particularité de ces potentiels interioniques, par rapport à ceux des métaux simples, est de dépendre du volume et de la structure ionique. Le calcul des propriétés thermodynamique a été effectué en minimisant l'énergie libre par rapport à un paramètre caractéristique du système de référence. Nous avons pû montrer que, pour les métaux alcalins, le modèle de plasma à un composant est un meilleur système de référence que le système des sphères dures. Par ailleurs, il se trouve que la fonction diéléctrique d'Ichimaru fournit l'énergie la plus basse quand on l'oppose à d'autres. Enfin, les résultats obtenues pour l'énergie libre et les grandeurs thermodynamiques des éléments métalliques que nous avons étudiés sont en bon accord avec les résultats expérimentaux

A detailed study of self-consistent integral equations gives rise to a numerical procedure suitable for liquid metals. Once the effective pair potentiel is derived on the basis of the pseudopotential theory, the structure and thermodynamical properties of alkali metals as well as of the 3D transition metal series are obtained. The use of some recent electron-ion interaction models leads to results in good agreement with experimental data. When performing the isothermal compressibility calculations of the metals under study, it appears that the pair potential deerivatives with respect to density can be neglected. Therefore, the scheme employed here successfully might be extented to alloys as well as be applied to the inverse problem. It is also shown that the nature of the pair potential changes gradually from metallic to non-metallic state when the critical point is approached along the liquid-vapour coexistence curve
