Lorsque l'atteinte semble être localisée au grasset, dénommé genou chez l'Homme, la rupture du ligament croisé crânial doit faire partie du diagnostic différentiel. Cette rupture entraîne une instabilité de l'articulation fémoro-tibiale, ce qui a conduit au développement de nombreuses techniques chirurgicales de stabilisation. La TPLO et la TTA sont les techniques de stabilisation dynamique les plus étudiées. Notre étude rétrospective s'intéresse à 321 TTA et corrobore les données de la littérature en ce qui concerne les caractéristiques de la population à risque. Le fait d'avoir soumis le questionnaire aux propriétaires permet de mettre en évidence un défaut d'objectivité, une difficulté d'interprétation ainsi que l'existence d'une idée préconçue. L'étude radiographique et anatomique a été motivée par le postulat admis par certains vétérinaires selon lequel la pente du plateau tibial est plus importante chez les chiens de grande taille. La pente du plateau tibial mesurée sur pièce anatomique semble être plus faible chez les chiens de grande taille et présenter une plus grande variabilité chez les chiens de petite taille. Cependant, elle est très différente de celle mesurée sur radiographie. Dans notre étude radiographique, la pente du plateau tibial est plus élevée chez les animaux stérilisés que chez les animaux entiers alors que le gabarit de l'animal et que la présence ou non d'une rupture du ligament croisé crânial n'ont aucune influence. Ainsi, la mesure radiographique de cette pente ne possède pas de valeur prédictive concernant le risque de rupture du ligament croisé crânial.
