Book excerpt: Au cours de ces dernières années, une approche systémique des materiaux est apparue avec, non seulement, la recherche d'indices de performances mais également la notion importante de durabilité. Il est bien évident qu'il n'existe aucune structure, aucun système qui fonctionne sans être affecté d'un certain taux d'endommagement. Alors, le problème qui se pose est celui de l'identification et de la quantification du dommage associé à la définition d'un coefficient de sécurité qui conduit à déterminer la durabilité de la structure ou du système concerné. Cette réflexion s'inscrit dans une démarche d'écoconception dans laquelle la notion de durabilité est un facteur de productivité. En réalité, il faut anticiper pour ne pas subir de situations scientifiquement, techniquement et économiquement non rentables. L'orientation de travaux de recherches consiste, à partir de divers protocoles expérimentaux, à réaliser l'identification du comportement mécanique d'un matériau avec ou sans revêtement sous sollicitations mécaniques et/ou contraintes environnementales complexes. La finalité de ces recherches s'articule autour du choix de matériaux ou multimatériaux pour la conception de structures en relation avec leurs procédés de mise en œuvre et se poursuit par la mise en évidence des phénomènes d'endommagement intervenant selon les différents cas de figures dans le but d'étudier ces processus de dégradation. Par comportement, il est entendu aussi bien le comportement mécanique d'un volume que celui d'un revêtement. La notion de durabilité est plus complexe. Elle peut évoquer un endommagement physique sous sollicitations mécaniques comme un vieillissement (effet d'un rayonnement, de la température, d'une oxydation ou corrosion, etc.). Par ailleurs, le contrôle non destructif par Emission Acoustique des matériaux s'inscrit pleinement dans mes recherches. L'avantage essentiel de cette technique est de donner une information en temps réel sur l'endommagement au cours d'une sollicitation mécanique, thermique, etc. Elle est, sans doute, l'une des techniques la mieux adaptée pour surveiller et étudier la cinétique de l'endommagement dans les matériaux et les structures. La méthode de contrôle par émission acoustique des matériaux et des structures s'appuie sur une grande connaissance des matériaux et sur l'expérience en émission acoustique acquise à travers les recherches menées en laboratoire et en partenariat avec des équipes de recherches du milieu industriel.

Les calculs sont effectues en grandes deformations en formulation lagrangienne reactualisee. L'etude experimentale a ete realisee sur des eprouvettes axisymetriques entaillees. Elle a pour but d'evaluer les mecanismes de degradation progressive du materiau (nucleation de cavites, croissance et coalescence) et determiner, a partir de ces mecanismes, les parametres constitutifs des modeles d'endommagement. Le couplage du modele de thomason avec les autres modeles montre une nouvelle possibilite de representer le stade de coalescence. Les resultats obtenus illustrent les complementarites entre l'approche locale et l'approche globale et la pertinence de cette derniere pour l'etude de l'influence de la triaxialite et de la deformation plastique equivalente sur l'endommagement.
